Why did you take that trade?

Well - out of curiosity: because this situation of the Dax within the cloud has two possibilities within a week for "larger" moves" - means on Tuesday and on Thursday. Thought to catch the early worm...
Which as we can see did not happen. So Thursday is of course no alternative.

Will take the Wednesday trade (short as mostly always) and the Friday trade if possible.
Some trial and error - around the normal rules - sometimes brings some points too.

Good trades!
GFIs1

PS I: I skipped Tuesday's and Thursday's trades because they had much lower gains than the 3 other weekdays.
PS II: The 126xx are in reach as next resistance - so tomorrow a short is on the plate

Hi thank you for your thread.
please can you let me know whether within this thread there is one post which is meant to summarize the method you are applying? I tried to read the first few pages but I could not find it.

Thank you.

Buongiorno guidoisot

The most information you can gather on this system is summarized in post #1.
Additional clarification within the posts 1 to here

If you look at my other thread when high volatility exists then read the shorter thread here:

Both systems are there - when one is limited by the rules - the other one is coming in handy...

Feel free to ask more detailed questions.

Test was not positive. As already mentioned: price in daily Kumo may be more erratic.
Anyway things are mostly under control.

Hi,

is it ok
exit @ 12389 ?

or is it exit @ 12489 ?

in any case as I understand: you enter and exit with a pre-fixed timing, do you?

hi
are you still in the trade?
or (since drawdown has been 48 > 30 SL points) did you stop out?
if you stopped out, now that the dax has turned down are you re-entering? or the trade for today is closed.
Thanks

Was not stopped out - special SL rule for situation when price 30m from 9:00 to 9:30 is out of yesterday range.
So still in the trade until exactly 13:00

Good trades

PS in 99% of all trades - there is only ONE trade per day.
Walzer of course not meant here.

just to make sure, do I understand correct if I say it in this way:

"when the close of the 30 min bar starting at 09:00 is outside of yesterday range"

if yes, no need to reply.

thanks.

partly right: means if today's range 9:00 to 9:30 exceeds yesterday's (cash) range then a special SL rule applies

GFIs1 DAX trade per day journal is reflecting a "pattern trade system".
Special here is the view on every single weekday - from Monday to Friday.
Thus some rule sets (incl. SL) are giving hints on how and when to trade.
Of course giving the best entry and exit TIME for every week day according
previous day(s) as well as from the IB (means initial Balance) from 9:00 to 9:30
cash time.

With all that some trades give more and some less points. The goal is:
to have at the end MORE GAINS than Losses.

Do you have a minimum risk-reward-ratio you shoot at? If not you need more gains than losses anyway.

Yes there is a risk-reward scenario: In my day trading results (since 2012) a optimized stop loss is on normal days 30 points. That means "wiggle room" for the development of a trade within the foreseen traded hours. On special circumstances this SL might be higher with 40 or max. 50 points.
The optimization came from hundreds of real trades. The real gain is a result given by such optimized stops.
Otherwise uncertain results....

Another indicator that shows rough waters is the Ichimoku cloud. When price is within daily cloud (such is the DAX since 6 days now) that indicates uncertain moves - which the system can not easily predict. On such occasion NO trade or staying at the sidelines is recommended.

If your risk is 30 points, how much is your minimum reward you shoot at? E.G. I enter only trades with a minimum risk/reward of 1:3, means: in my setup I risk 1 dollar to earn 3. On a broader perspective, even if I am right only 27% of trades (hit rate), I still earn money.

E.g. If you risk 30 points in order to achieve 30 points (1:1) you need at least a hit rate of 55% which is very hard to achieve on a regular base. Maybe you are that good. I know big names in the industry, who consider it a great year if they achieve 42% hit rate. (With that they earn inhuman sums, because their risk/reward-ratio is great!).

Hi
I see the entry is not price @ 9h30, but a price from 9h30 through 10h00. A "good entry", .... just few second before dax started to spike up. Do you look also to order book imbalances before/when deciding the entry?
Thanks.

There is no other deciding criteria than picking the "right" rule with entry time and exit time.
Today with small witch @13:00 is always a bit tricky as price may have some erratic moves.

Good trades

Hi
when early in the day your system tells a down day by 14h00 or 13h30 ... and then this does not happen (we still have 10 min. to go, however, I do hope it will turn down) does this mean that most likely, despite initial expectations, we are anyway expecting to have an up day? For the little I have been learning so far, I understand that when a clear bullish signal is proven wrong, THEN such signal can be considered a new strong bearish signal, and viceversa. So, based on this, can we expect DAX spiking way up today? or, in your opinion, the bearish bias for the DAX is still valid?
Thanks.

Hi there, I am confused as to why you placed a trade at 09.30 cet when that was the exact time of the german PMI which caused the spike higher??

Well - the system here has not a bullish nor a short signal. It follows with high probability the trend within the hours of the most trades. This is not working always but quite often. So to be open - what the DAX does over all day traded is not important to make some high probable points. In fact the less traded hours in the day - for the Dax cash afternoon until 17:30 and the future until 22:00/15 (depending on the broker) are pushed by larger trades because the market is not that liquid. Therefore concentrating on the most "honest" hours with enough trades is a good advice.

Hi
there is a nice support zone around 12300, just 50 points down from where we are right now.
Are you going to stick to the plan and exit anyway at 12h00?

You will see the bottom there for today.
Was sticking to the plan and got out @ 12:00 as previewed. (rule)

so did I ( 10 min later)
now, depending on how NY makes its opening "fake moves", I will see whether or not to place a temporary sell stop at 12400 or a perhaps higher.

thanks, I consider very valuable your 9 am bias indication ....

Dax short 9:30 to 17:00

entry @ 12601
exit @ 12603
result -2 points

GFIs1

The Dax ended on top of 30m cloud (KUMO).
Price could not enter cloud - therefore trapped @ the 12600 wall.

Tomorrow German stock exchange closed!

Final word (18:26h):
The Dax will do its down slide really quickly... we will see on Wednesday

was harder than foreseen in my post 2 weeks ago.
But now it seems that a new base has been found - a return to upper cloud included.
At least the way up is prepared to go forward easily:

Hi GFIs1

I've been following your thread for a little while now on and off. Continue to be impressed by you dedication to the approach and consistency. Had a question from yesterday's long trade. Understand that most of your Wednesday trades are short (ie. +90%)...with a short trade commencing at 10.30 when there's a positive IB. On Monday you felt there would be an end of month Wednesday short. Can you share what changed this into a "long". There was mention of new positive news from the US..but didn't think you played the news. I think its the Kumo cloud (i'm not really across)...but would be interested in your view of your Wednesday "long" rule that overrules what's usually a "short" day.

Thanks again
Canozy

Thanks @Canozy for following.
You have seen many of my "moves" and you are not wrong basically.

There is a rule for "after holidays". That was the truth about to take the long trade.
We have found that trade and were supported by the "good news."
Nevertheless the trade long after a holiday and after IB 30m long is given.
Keep those in mind

A higher Dax means normally more margin - especially at Interactive Brokers (IB) where pricing of the margin changes everyday and might under difficult situation even change intraday - be aware.

Thus here the actual margins for 1 future (25) of the Dax:
Intraday first contract: 15020
from second to x contracts: 12016
holding overnight: 2x intraday single contract, means 30040

All pricing in Euro.

Looks like some positive movement up after quitting the daily cloud is on its way.
No resistance here - some air up is there.
Even some points were left on the table - the system gave the still the best - direction, entry and exit.

some illustration here:

The Dax made in the last few years a jump from 7k to 13k points.
That means nearly doubling. At the sam time the margins jumped up and doubled.

What is the impact for one's account?
With one point in the Dax one makes 25 per contract gain or loss.
When the margins are doubled - you need more basic funds.
Calculated to the funds - if you only can handle half of the contracts
it means also half in gains per year. Real money and percentage.
Even if you have similar results with trading points over a year.

Higher indices do not mean more gains...
but the same trading effort

So choosing wisely which future one trades is primordial.

Not easy to go countertrend even when own bias is in the other direction.
Today taking the "normal" short trade on a Wednesday was more risky -
but the system gave the rules for some gains.

So scalping traders need to be more alerted to trade against the trade - especially
when the "wiggle room" has to be very limited.

Such trades are kind of proof for pattern trades.

Watch for those!

Hi GFIs1,

Did you have any SL on last Friday trade?

Hi @carlos

Yes I had one - but not a regular as the day before long weekend
normally gives higher vola and range. Of course the trade in hindsight
was not good - seeing the potential there was.
Anyway could have traded or not

Hi GFIs1

Good trading as usual. I know your trade rules vary by day of the week with some exceptions. Usual Friday trade is to trade in the reverse direction of the IB...i think. Interested in hearing your rule(s) for a long trade in the direction of the IB yesterday.

Keep up the good work and sharing in your journal.

Thanks

Today price came down as expected and discussed in upper posts.
Where we are now:

Things are quite clear now - but can be volatile in the next few days - be careful!

at least 12800 was reached today as indicated.

The upcoming week will be the last to trade...
Until week 32 mid August.
Volumes will be low and the system will not work with positive results - as last 7 years showed.

So - be happy to see some more points in this already good year while watching next weeks trades.

Looking at the daily KUMO: Price is within Kumo and will resist for some weeks there.
Then because of the double top the price wll kill the horizontal line of the cloud underneath
and pass to much lower prices.

yeah - just a thought of a chartist - but we might see the outcome

The level might come low or low as 11666 (during that short trading day).

Have a look here:

Dax made a slump on Monday: 306 points during cash hour.
Down to new lower levels.
Looks like this is not the end: support levels are far.
Lower volumes during 6 to 8 summer weeks might bring a lot of volatility.
Not really recommended. Only if one needs to burn cash

Good trades

Will be interesting to take a last trade for some weeks.

Here some thoughts about a probable goal today: (time 9:55 in the morning)

In a chart 1h and one of 30m I am showing my decisions along the Ichimoku chart (as always)

Here are both:

The goal for today is around 12512.
Window dressing as told above - means some good (reachable) result for the first half year.
Means also that the companies buy there own stocks to be in better bonus zone haha!

Good trades

Well - special day needs more wiggle room. Thanks for your pm's.
Why? Because of the movements out of 2 different Kumos - means price might oscillate a bit.

We will see at the end of the trade.

a new semester begins:

Looking back to the best trades 2018:

Jan. 2: 122 points

Feb. 9: 139 points

Jul. 2: 129 points

We see some push trades that bring the total up in the air. There is always the risk to burn it down again. Therefore some bad weeks need to be omitted.

Lets have a look on the trade today: the system said 9:30 long and exit @ 16:30. If we look closer the entry was lowest white candle after 9:30. The direction from the rule was right - long! And the final white candle for the exit closed on the highest point - 30m closing - of the day. Better one can not go inside a day trade.

Illustration

Final word: System rule was right!
