This morning a nice up gap. Asian markets made heavy plus.
Will take a trade today. Foreseen 9:30 to 14:00 long.

System optimizing will start from now.
Means taking trades only in favorable weeks of the year.
Did talk about in previous posts.

So no Wednesday and Friday trades this week.
Further skipping weeks to be announced...

Good trades

Hi GFIs1,

I must confess, tht I am not familiar with your trading rules.

In DAX trading we are having a pre-XETRA time from 8:00 until 9:00 o'clock. The break out starts eihter at 9:00 or later in the time until 10:00. I am using 2 break out boxes for visualization: 8:00 until 9:00 and 9:00 until 10:00.

The start at 9:30 for a trade is in the middle of the first hour after XETRA-opening. I have heard from some strategies different times for trading "the direction of the day" between 9:05 and 10:00.

The question I have is: is the time 9:30 a good compromise between safety and an early entry? What is the main reason for you to decide in the past, to take this time as a FIX time for your strategy?

Thanks a lot!

Best regards,
Renkotrader

Difficult start already.

Taking a short 10:30 to 13:00

entry @ 13377
exit @ 13363
result 14 points

IB vol ok

Thanks for the question - here a short explanation:
a) My trading rules are based on 30m candles (statistics over a long time). All pre or after cash hours are not included.
b) For every weekday there are different entry/exit rules
c) Normally - after my perception - price is turning very often at 10:30
d) my rules have some rules "above" when certain cases are seen like a gap, moving around in Ichimoku Kumo etc.
e) rules are also depending on last trading day
f) there are rules for special cases like price range >150 points or price range was >250 points on previous day
g) rules omit in most cases the time when US market opens
h) Day rules just look for stronger moves - therefore normally Tuesday and Thursday are not traded
i) plus more...

To summarize - the GFIs1 system (which means 1 trade per day) is only taken when a chance of high probability is given.
This year 2018 I will even skip those weeks that were red in the past 6 years. Means I will just be active during the "gaining" weeks.

My job is to optimize trading / other work - leisure and still have an eye on the development of the DAX.
In a new thread I explain some thoughts about mining crypto currencies. Might be a grea alternative to trading as well.
Lets see

Hi GFI1s,

thanks a lot for your detailed feedback

I will make a visual check for changing the direction from the DAX at 10:30.

To evaluate the system as a never ending process is a part of our job description - and you reflect your trade very well. Its a great job in quality. To improving the quality of our trading is our most important task, to be long in the forefront, the most important guarantee- so I think.

I am interessted in Krypto-Currencies, but not in mining its. That is not my place. I am waiting for getting validated my Gateway in EUR in Gatehub.net.

Best regards,

Wednesday trade

would have given some points - lets see theoretical result (which will not count here):
Short 10:30 to 14:30
entry @ 13352
exit @ 13267
result 85 (theoretical as no trade was taken)
IB volume ok

GFIs1

Just to recall - weeks 2 to 7 are not really full of points

Dax was in a sideways range last days.
Volumes very low.
IB Friday 9:00 to 9:30 was with no direction.
German politics still stuck about the build of the Government. As long there is no working German Government the DAX will not see a new ATH. Such thing will not happen in the next few weeks.

Happy weekend

While Asian and US indices shoot up to new ATH - the DAX doesn't.
The main reason even the industry performs very well - prices in the world markets for EU products are high.
This is because of the running up of the € versus the $.

We can see within a year a shift of 15.6% in the EURO. Yesterday the exchange price was 1.23 which is a real
brake for the DAX. This is a reason for the sideways move since quite a time.

Today's up and down (means sideways) can bring up two fruitful trades tomorrow Wednesday
and maybe one on Friday.
This is because the Euro collided with the KUMO (north) and is running up again - which means in case
of the DAX some falling for the next days...
For sure - if volumes tomorrow are good, some Dax shorting might be a proposal.

Let's see

1) because of bad weeks 3 to 7
2) because of none of GFIs1 systems work properly during those weeks

DAX sideways after the new ATH: start of the future @ 13565

Things have to settle a bit - tomorrow ECB decision. Not much volatility expected.
So no trade today because of
• weak week
• gap not closed yet - but still support from Kumo
• low volume expected
• low vola expected

EUR/USD got up to 1.2402

AND the DAX slipped to close the gap during cash hours.

PS: of course my system would not have given points during normal hours - so sitting @ the sidelines is very healthy

We are back in shaky times again - after a long time of quietness.
Means prices will jump more than seen lately.
Of course this is under a fear to see rising interest rates which show that stocks are no longer the prime earner.
In this battle of up against down we need to be careful choosing trading days.

Will cover with some charts - and update the Walzer thread.

Dow dived down -5%
Asia followed with Nikkei 225: -7%

Read my previous posts - especially with Dax goal of 11996 - up on this page...

The Dax might open lower than 12000.

Heavy volatility - means to stay safe: stay at the sidelines

Watch out for margin calls. The intraday margin is removed during the day (at Interactive Brokers). Never saw this happening during the day. One Dax contract is now nearly 30k.

Dax needs stll a second down leg...

As the overnight price of the Dax future went down with the flash crash
to 11600 - the cash price lo during the day was 12196.
Awaiting still a price lower than 12k.

Lets see what will be on the plate.
Good trades

Yes - margins are going up with the index. Means much higher now than 10 years back. US and EU.
The intraday margins are provided under normal circumstances. When prices are playing games up
and down - then the margins may go up again and intraday they disappear to get some volumes
out of the market.
Such behavior on the DAX can be found 2008 and 2011 as well...

Just beware when a Index pushes over 1.x% per day - then the broker will block from its side.
(...coins even worse!)

For example when you have 25k on your account. And you are in the market with 1 fdax. The normal intraday margin would be around 14k. Which leaves you with 11k of headroom.

In others years when the dax did 1% or more on a daily basis. The margins were adjusted on daily basis, but never during the day. If you go smooth every night, that is no problem.

If they change this during the day, you could have a margin call. Even if you are in a winning position, they will liquidate your position. Because the margin will go to 30k and that is above your 25k you have on your account.

I was surprised to see the margin removed during the day. Maybe others experienced this before but I never saw that in the last 8 years.

You are right - IB is more restrictive concerning margins in the last 2 years - maybe governance protection needed that.
On the other hand - if you are willing to trade with 14k on a 25k account then you are already on the risky side - why
not trade the FXDM (5x leverage) instead of the FDAX (25x leverage) to adjust to your liquidity?
Of course I know about the costs and slippage...
Was only a hint for rough times as we can see them right now.

in the DAX yesterday during cash hours...
Around the globe stocks and indexes were sliding.
Interestingly the EUR/USD came down too.
USA with 2nd shutdown within 3 weeks.
Germany still without working government until March.
Olympic winter games starting while crazy Kim holds a military parade.
Quite a desaster!

Looks not bad for a Friday trade

But after Presiden'ts Day trades are likely to see on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday.

Happy trades

the plunge came minutes after having closed the trade. Reached even 12074 as the low of next candle.
Some points were on the table - but still well orchestrated

The Ichimoku chart gives us some hints for some new lower points in the DAX.

Here a chart with 30m candles:

Shows us some reversal around 12096...
Before FED decision Wednesday.

Let's see!

Wednesday had no trade (was busy).
Thursday a slip down - as previewed in my chart on this page.

Friday opening: killed now support of 12000 and started 8:00 @ 11925. Down Gap!
This might be the level for the next few weeks. Of course much lower prices expected
in the next few months - I mean MUCH lower...
Price is now in daily Kumo - breakout south is highly probable.

Today no trade as Thursday range was higher than 150 points. (213 points)

Waiting for a Walzer instead.
Walzer started 10:00... - result 141 points

Hi @Sazon

Thanks for asking: The core worth of the system is to omit any bad moments where one loses more than previous gains. By finding the "troubled waters" - here the DAX - one can find the TIME of sitting on hands (SOH). Very powerful!
So I found for my 1 trade per day that Tuesday and Thursday are not worth to trade: too little gains for the effort. Just as an example. Of course the rules for when to enter the trade (timing), direction and exiting time as well as the SL settings are important. Thus one needs to look back to 2 previous days, to upcoming numbers during the day, to the volume of the initial balance (here 9:00 to 9:30) and of course most important holidays, holidays holidays
For all situations a package of rules are written in my trading plan. Sometimes so tricky that a combination can not be programmed.

Then in my second system "Walzer" I took the high vola to trade when I am forced to not trade the 1 trade per day. Both systems are made for a special situation - here both are completing each other.
The Walzer is programmed and gives me a signal on my phone before a trade has to be started. Very handy. The rules for this easy system you can find in my GFIs1 high vola thread.

Hope this helps - Good trades!

Thanks for the response. I've been following your thread for quite some time so I kinda knew the answer but I wanted to verify with you. The reason why I posed the original question was because I remember you pointing out that certain days may be better than others so I ran a pivot table analysis in excel of my past trades and low and behold I noted certain days were wildly more profitable than others. So we are listening

Since I always start with the premise that everything is an 'overfit' until proven otherwise, I plan to watch this day of week filter for 2-3 months in incubation before I implement it.

As a side note, I also fully automated my trading methodology, complete with signals sent to my phone of time of trade and outcome. It's beautiful to no longer have to be tied to starring at a screen all day. Plus it completely removes emotions from trading. The next plan is to move everything to the cloud then I won't even need a computer

Was'nt it a big risk holding your FDAX position over the US CPI number??

Not at all: Price was above Kumo 30m and under pressure from Kumo daily.
So a strong upper resistance and a very good slip through 30m.

Easy

Test was not positive. As already mentioned: price in daily Kumo may be more erratic.
