Dax is really near at the 13k - depending on the US numbers this afternoon
or some new ATH in US indices the Dax might jump for a short attempt over the
long awaited new ATH. Could be this afternoon or next week though.
Later some further bullish move will start more new ATHs.

Hi GFIs1

Thanks for your longstanding commitment, I have a general question about the Dax future contract what you think could be the causes of the loss of daily volume from the 14 September 2017 when we went from sept to dec.
Thanks Roberto

Hi GFIs1

Hello Roberto
Thanks for your words. As we know that during the summer holiday weeks volumes in many indices are low.
You mention the fact that in the DAX even around elections as well after the results volumes are not high.
From economic view there is a very one directional move up on all the world's indices. So many investors
just swim with the river and do not hefty trades. As we can not see real consolidations this might be bringing
more money than jumping in and out with all the costs. There is still no restriction to higher prices at the horizon.
Second - bitcoin et al. are biting into the markets too: means some quick and dirty money makers are shifting
from ordinary stock markets to bitcoin markets. Knowing (or feeling later) that those markets are very volatile.
I am sure that normal behavior will be back from next year on: IF US complications are history, when Germany,
France, Italy and Spain will have stable governments - if ever.
Anyway - market will be there tomorrow too: some staying at the sidelines might have positive effect on the
yearly win rate.
Good trades!

After a new ATH yesterday some consolidation was previewed.
The Spain problem (Catalans) put some pressure on today - which
sent the Dax intraday 136 points down.
Not to bad to see the Dax lower than 13k again...
Volume @ 10:00 to 10:30 went up to over 13000 contracts.
That is impressive for 30 minutes
At least we see that some market participation is still here.

what is your point? This not a trading service.

My point is, that even if it is a simple journal just for fun or for educational purposes, some credibility must be here. For me, and after watching this journal for aprx. 2 years, credibility is almost lost.

I can also post things in my journal here (if I had one), after the event already happened and claim big gains. What is the point of that??????

If the writings can not be verified, for me are pointless and only noise. You can keep the money in your pocket and not mentioning it here.

If it harms me or my pocket, sure no. If it disturbs me because it adds noise to an already noisy job, yes.

I want only to express my doubts, because doubts keep me alive in this business almost 18 years now.

But of course, if I am disturbed, I can always stop following this thread.

ps: By the way, what was the performance of this journal for 2016?

thank you all,
Alex

Well, if you had a journal you would undoubtedly find that you would often post after your trades. That wouldn't mean you were faking it, just that you posted when you did. A journal is for reporting your trades and the reasons you made them, hopefully so you can improve your trading. That's all it is.

When I maintained a journal, I would sometimes post right when I made a trade, but usually not. Most of the time not until the end of the day, which is what almost everyone does.

If @GFIs1 were running a trade callout service, which he is not (and which would not be allowed here), that would be one thing. If he's reporting on how he trades and showing his method, that's another.

Keeping a journal is a way for a trader to be accountable for his trading so he can improve, not to tell someone else how to trade. It's for him, not for you. Whether he satisfies you or not is not the point.

If you don't feel you can use someone's journal posts to improve your own trading, then the solution is to stop reading them. That's easy.

Bob.

No problems so far. Except some here today on fio which gave me not the time to post earlier.
If you a are a dear follower since 2 years or maybe 5 and a half - you know that my postings are
most of the time most accurate - some before taking the trade, some live and some a bit late.
There is no secret sauce - just simple straight trading.
Maybe @alexk1968 had a bad streak. That will change for sure as every trader has some difficult
moments. But before posting such comments please allow to let me know WHO else here on fio is posting
trades realtime...

Because I respect you and your journal and I wish to stop it here and forever:

- most of your prior announced trades have very small gains, or are mostly in red.
- big gains are mostly generated from runaway trades, which can also be credited to good luck (not sure for the time of mentioning them here).
- I doubt that if the today's trade went to the opposite direction would be mentioned here.
- in the past i asked you how did you survived moves against your 30/40 pts. SL rule and the answer was unclear (special 'hidden' rules, in my console it didn't execute the stop, I will not discuss SL again in the future etc.)
- in my opinion credibility of everything (even of a friendly/free trading journal) must be always present.
- I like to ask and doubt for everything, except if everything is self-proofed.
- I don't like simple to follow without doubting/asking/thinking.
- and because maybe I am just terrible wrong about all this,

I will stop following you, wishing good luck and trades/gains to you and your dear remaining followers.

With regards to you and to fio for the hospitality,
Alex

@alexk1968

it's kind of you that you follow a thread and make comments, but it doesn't mean you can "demand" any service of someone who is posting stuff. A journal is a personal thing of the poster and meant for learning/discussing or just for personal reasons to keep track of one's trades etc. It's not a signal service or something.

If you don't believe the trades, you are free to not believe it. You can even comment in the thread that it looks unbelievable, as you did, but if you start complaining, what's the point of that?

Thanks Alex for the comment(s).
As you are still not answering my question about the "LIVE announcing Traders" -
here - nevertheless a last easy question for you:
When would you like to open your own journal here?
Does not have to be a live one
I am tuned.

Have a great time

ECB decision tomorrow!
IFO numbers 10:00h excellent: new ATH...
but taking profits at the moment are sending the DAX down
Smelled like this in the morning - as from setting up this post.
Watch if support holds @ 12900... Important for next weeks.

Support this evening held in the DAX future @ 12906
Quite a level to watch. If it goes further down - no new ATH
will be in sight soon.
The good 3rd quarter numbers are already out for the big
companies - upcoming results will be for sure lower.

IF 12900 holds then a new ATH might be possible before year
end. If not - nothing such will arise.

Good trades

on lower prices - means some correction in the path.
FOR higher levels to come eventually.
If 12900 does not hold - then no new ATH will be on the plate.
But a larger correction down.

See this illustration:

Was out of house all day - so no trade happened.

Although after a nice up gap a new ATH formed.
The daily chart shows some indirection - closing on open.

Anyway the 13.8k are in reach within next weeks and before
end of year.

Today no normal trade as Thursday hi/lo was 225 points. Together with high volume
of sometimes more than 10k per 30min.

Waiting if a Walzer (see last post) may develop.

Good trades!

Do you mean volume divergence?
After higher volumes, a lower volume spike as indication for possible change of direction?

That worked on 15th @ 12850 and this morning again in pre cash session.
Looks like a "W" formation to see higher highs before end of the year.

XETRA electronic exchange started in Frankfurt 20 years ago on 28th November 1997.
This was a huge step in German stock exchange.

The DAX started with 109 instruments and wrote 3966 points on the first day.
Today around 900 instruments are traded at this place and the DAX stays around 13100 points.
Means a gain of >9100 points or a yearly middle gain of 450 points.
Of course during those 20 years there were very many ups and downs - so this calculation might
mislead a bit.

Thanks to electronic exchange the transparency on every trade and trader has gained significantly.
Even with many more instruments the trading is much better surveyed today.

Happy birthday XETRA - and be there enough traders that make the DAX and its derivatives create
fluid markets in the future!

The price dive came later than 16:00
and ended under 13k again. (@ 12985)

Looks like the DAX needs another pause before going higher.
For the next two days (Th / Fr) I see no big moves or good volume.

Next trade foreseen on Monday. Good trades!

Thanks to my followers!

Here a short outlook to tomorrow Wednesday. Of course a short is foreseen.
Some hints are already in the chart. Such as a 1 / 2 /3 time hitting a trend line.
Plus a Kumo (cloud) giving indication of how much the price will move.

Have a look here:

Things are quite clear - just take a look tomorrow on the indicated path...

Good trades!

Thanks for asking "why price will cross the cloud top down":

Easy: a cloud with a horizontal opposite line (here the lower cloud line)
is ATTRACTING price. Th cloud will be crossed with very little effort - means with speed.
Such knowledge (if things will be right in this scenario) will help to see price crossing
cloud and get to farther low (means double the distance from dive in) to the goal.

We will see everything tomorrow - just let it happen.

In post #3248 the bigger picture of the DAX was given on November 20th.
Now some days left to see the triple witch on Dec 17th.
Can there be a new high?

Answer - yes - quite possible to see the final end of year rally - have a look:

Important days upcoming:

• Wednesday - Yellen speech - probable shift of interest into a band of 1.25 to 1.5%
• Thursday - Draghi speech in response - probable leave at it is for Europe
• Friday - Triple Witch - end of December futures contracts

With all this on the plate - some caution is needeed. Better to stay at the sidelines if not sure.
Watch out for volumes to decide to jump into the markets.

Wednesday - as nearly always - went short.
Not a bad trade.
Shows indecision within Kumo d/60m/30m:

Not sure what will be on Friday - lets watch the volume tomorrow
And not sure if price is still on the lower path

Good trades

PS: left some points on the table - but not tragic...
Goal from chart: 13012

As next week will be on very low volume - I do not foresee any trade after Christmas.
Thus this Friday trade will be the last within a good year.

Looking back to a tremendous 6 year data collection we can get some helpful insights.

As you know as follower of my journal here I had at the beginning just one trade per day. Optimizing
this to trade less but more efficient I dropped Tuesday's and Thursday's that were not giving too much
points here. Of course this was only for full weeks. Holiday weeks were treated differently.

Now the big question is: Which WEEK is better and which one is to omit?

So I came back to install all data per year on a weekly condensed table. I added those 6 years to see which
week gave what result. Summary here:

As we can see there are some interesting weeks like week 1 or week 8.

Then I just scratched all weeks that gave not at least 33 points (means min. 200 points for 6 years).
So one nice table came out that gives me a hint WHEN to trade:

As a result I could omit all those weeks with either too little result or even a negative one over time.
With that I could augment the investment ratio to a higher level. As there is a higher probability of
gain versus loss. Of course the system will not be altered nor the stops.

Hope this helps.

Taking the gains in points of over 1000 in the years 2012 and 2013 - we had over 1600 points in 2017.
But the return in % of investment is still lower. Why is this?

In 2012 the initial margin for one Dax future was around 5500 and 5000 per following contract.
Today a Dax future has a initial margin of 15271 and every following one of 12217...
ALL data is taken from Interactive Brokers platform where I trade.
This means one can trade less contracts with given money and has today much larger gaps from initial, normal
margin and overnight margin.
With other words: higher index numbers result in more difficult margin situations and less return on the
investment (ROI).
Even more difficult are the margins on the futures of bitcoin et al with 50% margin or more per contract.

Hint: the more leverage and more volatility a future has, the more margins are climbing over proportional.

Well - this might seem a bit picky - as the banks still are not giving anything back for real money sleeping there...
But the more and more expensive platforms for futures are the more those need to be scanned for a future trading.
At least for me.

After explaining how to trade only the best weeks (see posts above) I would show the
example of this year 2017:

Very economic!
Just trading the best 12 weeks - and getting a quite reasonable result. Here ~1000 points.
Only one negative week with -2 points.
The rest of 40 weeks are free for other projects!
This is called "cherry picking"
Or the words of an economist.

Just be careful...my experience in doing that kind of analysis is that it only results in curve-fitting.

My feeling too. It's a pattern, but will it repeat? Next year, different weeks may be up or down. Seasonality is real, but is not necessarily always really reliable.

An interesting analysis, but do be careful.

Bob.

Thanks @Sazon and @bobwest
Very happy to get response on that matter from my longtime followers.

Of course I know about historic / forward calculating etc. curve fitting systems.
That is not so in my case.
My results over 6 years documented here in this thread were giving me hints about low volume and more
risky - often sideways times. As well as strong and very strong moments. All that included I am relying on
the 6 last years my system went on and on.

Just to declare that there are important weeks in every year - just as the fact that we have strong weekdays
when money flows into the markets (Monday), shake on Wednesdays and get out on Fridays.
As described in my initial post from 2012. The same thing happens for quarter ends (window dressing of
companies) as well as for triple witch weeks that dictate a lot - means newbies might crack on those
up and downs.
Nothing has changed since 2012 regarding those patterns.

Therefore my always given warnings on low volumes will have an effect on the given week as well.
Means staying at the sidelines to prevent from loss.

My intention is to reduce my trades in the near future anyway - that insight given above came in handy.
Will tell here more about that progress without having losing weeks when I see it obviously from my large
table of data on one view.

Happy holidays

Thanks @rleplae

Very true: keeping a own journal on the tracks for a long time (not only during BigMike's contests)
is quite time consuming. You are doing the same thanks for it as well!
But having such a journal here on futures.io gives oneself much more thoughts on how to improve -
even after years of trading.

Such said and repeating - keeping an eye also on journals and not only on live trading - is a very
high valuable thing for every trader who wants to get consistent and stepping forward.

Thanks Renkotrader
This will be most reasonable for sure.
But beware of week one and week 8 of 2018 - maybe you should have a look @ week 1 to see
some nice extra fishing
This time it looks like holding back the new ATH for end of February.

Have great holidays ("e guete Rutsch!")

Hey GFIs1,

thanks a lot for this information - I will do Hm, no one will be sure, whre the DAX is going in this timeframe. I made for myself the forcast, that we will see in November and Dezember a big long run - but what I think is not the meaning from the real marketmovers.

Habe einen guten Rutsch ebenso und weiterhin viel Erfolg!

Best regards,
Renkotrader

Last trading day of the year!
Dax will close 14:00 - be aware.
Not much movements with low volume.

Looks like the Dax will end around 13k...
Good for a start into the new year 2018.

Hi Roberto
sorry for late reply - was out of desk yesterday.
The data for the basic DAX closed 14:00 exactly.
But for the future Dax and some derivatives the trading went on until 21:45/22:00 depending
on the broker. Those pricing came from US comparison and was not on EUREX.
Thus the much lower prices for end of day were just driven on US exchanges.
Just to repeat: those days between Christmas and New Year were on very low volume.

Anyway thanks for following and have a great time!

Finally back to normal volume and good vola!
As said end of year: Week 1 is a good week.
Of course the Initial Candle 9:00 o 9:30 made a hi/lo of 132 points.
That was driven by US oil and the EUR/USD. ECB had for sure some
interventions. So my SL management was on extreme given line.
The system gave a reasonable entry and especially a great exit time.
During this week strong nerves are required as some more volatile
days are on the plate.

Price went down and then up with a range of 172 points.
Therefore no trade today.
Just watching for a Walzer eventually...
Next trade on Friday foreseen.

Good trades
