Even there is no system trade in the Dax today, I am previewing
the CLOSING (17:30 CET) of the DAX today @ 6627.
This would underline that the signal for today would run in a SL.

Happy trades

Looks like another red day in the Dax...

Taking a short from 09:30 to 15:30

entry @ 6446

exit @ 6486

result minus 40 points

up move was quick and "deadly"

Most likely a short in the morning on WEDNESDAYs... (over 90%)
So if you are not sure - bet on a short after the opening range
except when Monday AND Tuesday were already short.

Happy trades!

GFIs1

How do you define the opening range? Is it 8:00 - 9:00 CET or after the cash open 9:00 - 9:30 CET or something else?

Thanks for your work!

Hi Templeton

Trading system is only cash time 09:00 to 17:30.
So opening range here is always 09:00 to 09:30.

The rule set is quite reliable as long the previous day's volatility
stays in a certain range.
Yesterday there was a NO trade situation after the vola of monday
exceeded the vola range defined.
But yesterday's range exceeded the defined range too..
Therefore the NO trade rule would have brought a better result today.
Anyway - this situation I did not have til now - will consider
this for next time coming.

Happy trades

Have adjusted the rule set for this special case which is described above.
This gives at least a better result than today's.

Hope the constellation shows soon up again.

Strange Dax movements today: CCO = chop chop only
Was already clear as opening range showed that a real trend did not
exist. Will consider this for fridays. Either no trade or entering
a trade later than on normal fridays.

Happy to finish this week positive (plus 7 points).

Have a nice weekend

Another chop chop week in the DAX

Took four trades - Tuesday was without a trade which was a good decision.
Two trades negative - with one SL of 30 points and one of 40 points.
Two trades positive with 38 + 39 points.

Weekly result plus 7 points.

Have a nice weekend

After a holiday - no trade day - ..

Why did you pay attention to this holiday? It's no holiday in USA, GB and only partially in Germany. Eurex was open anyway. Same for next Monday.

Taking a day off is (very) ok, but this holiday is just a non-event.

Many Thanks

Hi @FGBL07

For the Dax it is a non event as you state.
In our country the stock exchange is closed - everyone on holiday.
So were we. One day without screen time is not bad either.

GFIs1

PS: the trade after the rules would have given some points

We have reached all three target levels now. (Third target 6450 was missed by 2.5 points)
This area seems to be a resistance area - some move back to make higher highs
is natural. That pullback scenario should happen tomorrow.
So tomorrow's trade will most likely be a short.

..again.

Looking for the bigger picture in the Dax - I tend to see that the downside here has ended for now.
Lowest price did not test 6200 and the daily Ichimoku shows that the downmovement below the
cloud is balanced for that week. The weekly cloud shows hard support @ 6200.

To make it short - rising prices in the Dax should be seen in the months to come.

This does not influence the movements from day to day though. In the long run there are some weak
resistancies below 6800 and 7000 (as usual here).

Looking forward for some nice up movements to come.

..Noise on 10:30 bar...

but recovered - and the trade is on track.
This is why a Stoploss is set far away enough to avoid negative results when
the volatility is not in "sync" with the entry/exit time of the system.

Good trades!

Starting the GFIs1 thread on futures.io (formerly BMT) 21st of february this year
the discussed trades result in a total of 269 points.
This is 6725 to date.

Not very important - showing some consistent positive
and steady movements to the positive - we can be
happy that trading a future is *not* gambling in the
casino.

Main conclusions:

1) we find patterns in prices that are *repeating* patterns
2) in viewing price moving under different circumstances
there are days where moves are *very* predictible (like yesterday)
3) looking at the downside - means stoploss - the previewed
settings are highly important to stay in the game but to
jump out of a trade that is going against us to protect the capital.
4) homework done: the statistical concentrate of daily high probabilities
as well as the SL settings are still true for the last 6 months (shown here)
as calculated for the last two years in this case.
5) most important: there are negative days! And not to little. Accept them!
This does not influence us to change the main rules.
*Collect* the positive running trades and cut the negative ones...

You will find tremendous hints on the last point here on futures.io (formerly BMT)!

Read them and - Stay tuned

Dax from 13:00 to 13:30 was 98 points north.
More than 29K contracts were traded in these 30 minutes.
With a normal 150K day this is very unusual without
previewed news.
Anyway - the short foreseen for today is still valid -
only the stop loss settings were shortcutting this trade.

Hi GFIs1,
Why you exit your trades at fixed times?

Abde

Hi @Abde

Thanks for joining

My rules are a preset for entry AND exit.
These are statistical "best results depending on a high probability window".
So if a trade is not hitting a SL or ending in a negative...
that trade will normally hit the highest probable ending within that
trade window. This means also to avoid unwanted moves here
when the US is starting... we will end in the positive.. (no target price set!)

Good trades!

GFIs1

quite a chewing gum fun right now...

GFIs1

There was a corresponding down move in the Bund Future: 4 times the average volume for this time slot, threefold range.

I also could not locate any news related to these moves. Strange.

After a red start into this week the last trade turned the weekly result to green.
Thanks @Daytrader999 :-)

Four trades taken this week (Monday without a trade because of a holiday here)
Three trades ended red - two of them with Stoploss of 30 points each
One trade was a nice run with 145 points plus

Weekly result plus 77 points.

Total twittered results for the first five months now plus 684 points.

Have a great weekend

Today the magical 6'000 in the DAX was killed.
The gap to Friday's low @ 6008.5 had not been closed this morning - but NOW...

Have attached an actual Dax chart. On the right with the "Prev" (previous days range)
and "IB" (Initial Balance: 30 min opening) that Gap is still visible.

Very slow movement today - after that Gap Close a next downmove quite possible.
Today the system Dax trade was not a winner. Staying tuned for tomorrow.

Today the Dax closed @ price the open today.
Taking the steep downmove of last friday and today's closing I see
a highly possible chart for the next two days:

a) tomorrow: another downmove... how far is not defined
b) Wednesday: turning point in the week (as often after several trending days/
in any direction)

So expect to see a continuos down in the Dax tomorrow with a little retrace for Wednesday.

Hi GFI

It's the first time that I saw the dax change the short term trend without economic news, at 9.06 from 6099.00 went up to 6147 without any signal. By sure the medium trend is not down (20min to 40min). So the reason is just the closing of the gap from 17.30 settlement of the prior day you can confirm that
Thanks rcabri

The above scenario held.. :-)
turning point wednesday - and gapping higher on thursday - the upmove seems to have
some good base.
I twittered that 5902 might come soon - but the support @ 5912 level was that high in
this downtrend - the price was rejected quickly above this price again.

Hi GFIs1 -- Thank you for the journal. What happens in the case like today where your price of 6080 was hit before the opening time period of 09.30 ? In today's session the price is running up so there is little chance of it coming back down for now to hit the order of 6080.Does this mean that we have all missed the opportunity and have to wait until the price is triggered within the time window ?

Many thanks.

Hi @klw1

My system trades are always taken to the exact 30 minutes during cash hours.
Today the Dax long WAS taken exactly @ 09:30 to the price of 6080.
So the long was triggered - stoploss was 30 points away which means 6050.
Price came down to 6052 - stop was not interfering.
At the moment we are 20 to 30 points green :-)

Friday's triple witch day has a shaky week made possible.
After the trending day yesterday we got a chop-chop day today.
Therefore some prudence is necessary - even the normal stops
may be taken out.
The systems "no signal" for today was very good!
Better to not get into the negative and staying at the sidelines
sometimes is the best hint.

Hi GFIs1 -- Unfortunately another loser today and the 5th on the trot but do not despair I may have something that may help.If I can make a suggestion ?

Have you thought of changing the sl to 50 and tp to a fixed 24 each day. Now I hate 50 pip losers and that risk / reward as much as anyone else but for some reason it just might work using your system. I only have limited data to analyse as my M1 charts wont go back far enough for me scrutinise so maybe someone else can confirm my findings and it would be no great suprise with such limited data to find that the numbers just don't add up but here goes.

As an example the last 4 days ( not including today's session which still hasen't finished ) your system has 4 losses
of 30 points , using my sl/tp the results would have been + 24 ( 50 ) 24 24 , a totally different outcome and much more acceptable. Now of course you will be cutting winners short when you are right and for some that will be hard to take but for me consistency is the key to successful trading and a happier mindset knowing that you wont ( hopefully ) suffer large drawdowns and larger daily swings from profit to loss. Overall total pips gained seems to be around the same as your system but strike rate increases using mine from around 50 % to 78 % , of the losers only 1 hit the 50 pips , the others were 38 and 8 , again very acceptable.

Remember its just a small sample size , it could well all fall apart under more rigorous testing , I am a pen and paper guy maybe someone could analyse it in more detail to confirm.

Just trying to help.

Would a time based trailing stop loss help? i.e. initial stop loss may be 30-50pts then every so often (5, 10, 15...minutues) reduce the stop loss by some amount?

What was the longest streak of lossed you had GFIs and peak equity drawdown?

Thanks for the great journal GFIs!

Hi GFIs1 ...Have you thought of changing the sl to 50 and tp to a fixed 24 each day...

Hi @klw1

Thank you very much for your input. A short reflection here:
If I am setting the SL to 50 and to take a TP to 24 - every drawdown would weigh double...
This is NOT acceptable. I am fond of trades that hit the highest probable price without having
a TP involved. This makes the system finally profitable (tested on 2 years already).

Today's problem for the system was to find in this part:
Normally if yesterday's high/low is more than 150 points - then I have a No-Trade rule for
today. We are in a chop-chop week now and yesterday's range (official hours) was in a range
of 145 points... so very near to my No-Trade rule. Maybe I have to make there the
No-go for a day like this :-)

Otherwise the rule settings work for most of the weeks nicely (up to now) so there is
no need to change everything now.
As I stated that we are in a chop chop area - there is sometimes better to stay at the
sidelines til' normality is back.

Mention here that we have a FED decision on Friday - I assume that the volatility will stay
high for end of this week and that the volume will be adequate.
Sorry for any inconveniences here.

GFIs1

Any input always welcome - thanks!

Would a time based trailing stop loss help? i.e. initial stop loss may be 30-50pts then every so often (5, 10, 15...minutues) reduce the stop loss by some amount?
What was the longest streak of lossed you had GFIs and peak equity drawdown?

Hi @tihfa

Thanks for the questions.
Trailing stops: they are normally taken out if I am entering at 09:30. I let play out
the back and forth and do not "manage" the trade. Normal days have a 30 point SL,
special days (high vola, Rollover week etc.) a 40 point SL.
As a result the SL is far enough away from normal movements and is tight enough
to protect the capital (seen here by experience and statistics)

I counted already 3 to 5 negative trades in a row - over all results are always positive
here - so I had never a negative month up to now.
As I stated in that thread here already - live with the losers - accept them - and
look for the NEXT OPPORTUNITY.
No hurry to end up as a winner :-)

Happy Trades ALL

After rethinking inputs on twitter and on futures.io (formerly BMT) I am looking to provide
some extra information before opening a daily trade here.

There will be a extra info on how I see a trade in advance -
so there will be a "Low Risk" or a "Higher Risk" remark
coming with the system trade according to the rules
with observing the actual market.

Hope this helps to eliminate some negative points here!

Hi GFIs1 thanks for taking the time out to reply.

" If I am setting the SL to 50 and to take a TP to 24 - every drawdown would weigh double...
This is NOT acceptable. "

An occasional 50 loss does not weigh double in my book was just looking at a way to avoid 5 consecutive losses.

" Sorry for any inconveniences here. "

No inconveniences here my friend, as I stated I was just trying to help.

" Hope this helps to eliminate some negative points here! "

I really don't want to be classified as a negative poster,I was clearly stating that I was only making a suggestion and trying to help, I am 100 % behind you on this thread.
Anyone that has the courage and confidence to do this deserves all the credit going.

I totally understand and respect that you don't want to make any changes,I only did so as from what you have told me already here and on Twitter with
these 5 consecutive losses the system is in a new low area of drawdown. It happens and it's frustrating.

I may only have 2 posts to date on this forum but I have 10 years experience of short term day trading of futures , forex and oil,if I can help at all
in the future please ask.

May I wish you continued success.

Chop Chop week with many news, high volatilty and bad trades.
Results:
One trade with a tiny plus of 9 points
Four trades with a stoploss of 30 points each
Weekly result minus 111 points

Was the most negative week since the system started..

Total twittered points from week 1 to week 25 now plus 684 points.

If we want to see in the bigger picture evolving a "W" in the futures we should see

a) in the DAX a level of 591x again and
b) in the EUR/USD a level of 1.228 again

If these bottoms hold - a longer uptrend may follow.
Holding that in mind!

Good trades

Trading a Dax short from 11:00 to 13:30

entry @ 6131

exit @ 6143

result minus 12 points (maybe letting run that one a bit more could help)

risk - medium

Today another weak signal.
Taking a Dax long from 10:30 to 13:00

entry @ 6148

exit @ 6138 (SL)

result minus 10 points

risk medium - tighter stop than normal

comment: strong selling today - no real retracement taking place now
under these circumstances better to stay at the sidelines or flow with the trend.

Today is the last trading day of the first half year - some window dressing in sight.
Dax trade will be a Long from 09:30 to 14:30

entry @ 6308

exit @ 6353

result plus 45 points

risk low

GFIs1

comment on the SL:
normal SL on the last of a month is 40 points
adjusted uniquely for that big gap with 5 points
today which was fortunately not being taken out

Normal SL is 10 points now ?

10 points was under uncertainty last week respectively after so many negative
days.
30 points normal SL - as today
40 points with high vola or special days (announcements / high vola prev day etc.)
Today the SL held despite it was nearly touched

Good trades!

Even the bullish movement which has not ended yet
there is some resistance @ 6566. This could hold
for some days... so I do not expect that the price
will boost through this level without coming back.
Just a thought on the next development.

GFIs1

..this means be cautious with longs right now..
our daily rule would have indicated a long which
gives some negative results.
We have avoided :-)

at a US holiday for the DAX:
not even 50K contracts counted when normally two to three times the contracts
are changing hands...

Best: to stay at the sidelines as no move nor good chances are in sight at such
days..
Remember - this is mostly the case in such circumstances.

Does not apply to all tickers. Till 9:30 I thought that the Bund would be dead too: just around 35% of the usual volume traded.
But then "they" (whoever these mysterious "theys" are) pushed the market above yesterday's high. That must have triggered a lot of stop losses. Just now the volume is around 70% of the average.

I think it will drop a bit more after 17:00. But for such a day it is quite high - and the range is 0.94. Almost double the long term average (not of the last days).

Did I profit of it? Nope, exited (too) early and went shopping.

The system was mostly wrong in the last 10 days.

Now the Dax was going down to 6350 to push bullish through
the cloud (here the 60min chart) - might kill the last upper supp/resitance @ 6652 within
this move north.

We will see tomorrow if and how to enter.
Good trades
