This week on Friday 13:00 the Sep Dax Future contract will be closed.
Means some erratic movements during these days.

Last trade with this contract on GFIs1 journals will be on Wednesday.

Be aware of it - and stay at the sidelines if things smell fishy for you.

There is a high possibility to see a new dive to 9966 soon (~POC )
This is not meant for tomorrow or Friday Triple Witch.
But finally the heavy short pushes are there for tomorrow 21:00h
and some more short until Friday. On the way down some
drops lower than 10K might be part of the game.

Just my 2 cents this evening.

Not really a direction visible for the end of the September contract.

More a sideway's character.
Actual contracts traded today (up to 16:06):

DAX SEP16: 87.5K
DAX DEC16: 38.3K

Good volumes.

and remember - triple witch week has 40 point stop

Overnight after cash hour price pushed again up - and landed where?
At the magnetic 10466.

But morning opening is again under the 60m cloud - so no longer at this level.

Today the first trade with the December contract.
Will take the trade - but will no be able to announce here.

PS: the high vola and also high volume during morning session (problems with Deutsche Bank and 3rd quarter

Looking for Monday with a sure trade this time.

IB vol good

Hi GFIs1

how do you determine if IB vol is 'good'? And what are the parameters? IB = initial balance = first hour from cash open?

assume you had a good short trade today, congrats. how is your overall performance YTD etc? How have returns varied over this long periood?

g/l.

Hi @DaxyMcDaxFace

Thanks for following. The answers to your questions are hidden somewhere in upper posts...

But to make it short and clear:
1) IB vol means Initial Balance of the first 30 minutes of Cash Hour. Means 9:00 to 9:30 CET.
2) LOW means under 6-7K contracts. Good means 7-10K contracts. High means more than 10K contracts. The low and the high IB's mean RISK! For THIS system. Better to stay at the sidelines if RISK is at stake. Here I take the trades to see what happens... Stop loss can prevent from excessive drawdowns. In fact - most of these trades taken were losing...
3) My yearly results you can find in both GFIs1 threads here around the year end. There some analysis is to find too.
Both systems (this thread and the Walzer system had different outcome. Please read in appropriate threads all results. This year the Walzer was much better as
the GFIs1 system that did not perform as well as in the last 4 years. The "Walzer" is having much less trades - but
performs when markets are very volatile with double the gains than this daily system here.

To make it short for ALL FOLLOWERS:
This year - because of US elections - made it much less predictable than in "normal market years". Proof of the pudding
always is: if gains are above all costs during a specified period.
And that was given nearly all the time reporting here on both trading systems.

The next Gain/Loss comparison for both systems will follow soon in this thread.

Hope this helps
GFIs1

IB started with a real plunge this morning:
IB Open: 10668
Low: 10572
Volume: 17516 contracts as mentioned (High)
IB Hi/Lo of 97 points

Risk was HIGH - which means high volatility

What to decide:
a) high vola - stay at the sidelines
or
b) take the trade - SL @ 40 points because of high risk IB mentioned

Either way - things develop in a quick and dirty way (as always)

Now things play out as previewed.
There will be a next obstacle on Monday:
Rule of "last" of month is: "Friday Rule". Then and ONLY then!
Means on Monday things will be as on a normal Friday while TODAY
we do not play the Friday rule - just if you were not sure on what was priority.

Good trades!

Will not take a trade until US elections are over.

No normal behavior in the last weeks in the markets.
That easy

Happy weekend

Exact price of indices AFTER elections are most interesting right now.

But - WHERE will the DAX stay right after the elections?

Here a short overview:

Watch the "W" that supports current level!

PS: was perfect to NOT take any trade today

Markets have seen troubled waters...
but some signs tend to see new highs coming very soon.
Things now seem cleared after US elections. So investors have more security to see
where to invest and where not.
This calms the markets and trends are now more clearly seen. This means some longer
phases now can happen.
Helps also for the systems.
Learned from all election year: stay at the sidelines.

..as new resistance now might be history:
Closing the gap to Friday might start the final Christmas rally.

Lets see what happens - the 11k in the Dax for year end seems probable.

Hi,
Thanks for your nice journal.
I read and reread all the post from the beginning and i learn a loti get a clear pictur of the concept of your exit method and i have a question about your entry technique and i will appreciate some of your help:
How do you decide if your trade will be short or long?Do you look only at the 30 minute candle after 9.30 or you use other method such as market profile?
Thanks in advance

Hi @FKtrader

Thanks for following.
My entries depend on different situations - especally concerning the real day of week
In fact - 80% of the entries depend on the first 30min. of cash hours and go in the same direction as that very first
candle shows. The entry time and exit time depend on the system rules. They are part of Ichimoku (daily cloud) and
other "ingredients". No hidden things or secret sauce. Just a couple of depending rules as you can read in the posts
in this thread. Some of those are volume, previous day range, special events like holidays (US holidays are counting too...), exceed of previous day range, gaps etc.
In fact - the "change of direction" (last 20%) are on Fridays, Last of Month etc. Then the first candle goes in one
direction and the trade will turn right on the next one - also in direction.
Exit times are given by the system rules.
Those are giving really different exit times - as the rules have sometimes cascades of priorities.

Of course I am using Market Profile too - but NOT for this system. All trades in this thread are deriving from given rules
and are not changed - even in case that some other indicators would "interfere" here.

The main thing are the stops - the normal one is 30 points and in some cases there is a 40 point stop.

As you know if you follow the posts from the beginning: ALL entry time and exit time are announced AT the beginning -
even before the trade is taken (in most of the time). This means those are given by the system.
Works - if the stops were not interfering.

Hope this helps

Today with lower volumes (US holiday) price of DAX can not pass the
cloud above easily. The form of the cloud - here in 30min chart - has
no way to pass today. The cloud is getting thicker. On the right end
it even moves down.
Even IFO numbers this morning did not help: so NO longs today

Good trades

Nice to see you're still at it and journaling. How's the year been for your system(s) so far?

Thanks for asking @Scalpingtrader

This system with 3 daily trades per week was up and down with not much gains for the year.
The previous 3 last years were all around 1000 points at the end of the year. Links to the gains you can find in the first post of this thread.
Fact is that we are in the US election year and that changes market behaviour very much. Especially for systems
with given rules it does not work the same.
I guess that this will get to normal now again.

My other system "Walzer" see was performing very well in the first 6 months. After that the Dax was slowing down in spikes and no Walzer came up.
But I am sure to see after normality is back that the Walzer has good performance again without changing anything.
Walzer had the last trade in August.
Points up during the year (one contract): 739

I will post my results of the year on both systems after christmas in the repective threads.

...no Friday trade.
The good ECB gave a range of 204 points today in the Dax during cash hours.
That prevents from taking a normal trade tomorrow.
Might be to see a Walzer trade after the long pause during US elections.

We will see and watch carefully.
Good trades!

Hi GFIs1.

I'm a newby to this forum . I like your rules based disciplined approach to 1 DAX trade per day. Couple questions... (1) how does your more macro view of expected DAX movements (eg 12k levels) impact your trade decisions which looks pretty rules based and determined on the day of trade to me (eg it's based on the IB balance + prior days range + holidays/triple witch etc.) and (2) you took 2 trades on the 7th (1st for -40 and 2nd for +10)...what prompted the 2nd trade as i thought there was only 1 per day?

Keep up the great work.

Cheers

Instead of not taking a trade today - after rules - I decided
to take one:
Reasons - momentum, ECB money pump, Year End Rally...

SO
Dax long 9:30 to 15:30
entry @ 11178
exit @ 11197
result 19 points

IB vol good

Hi Canozy
Thanks for following!
To 1) The rules are not including the price level of the Dax. They are as you mention right the weekday and the behaviour of
previous days as well as the upcoming holidays, long weekends, etc.
Being clear - the rules were not changed in last year. But there are conflicting rules as there are some rules overlapping.
The priority leads to your question
2) Why 2 trades on the same day?
There were 2 different rules for the Wednesday: First there was a eminent up gap. That gave the
first trade. The normal trade for Wednesday taking out the gap - would have given the trade 2. So after the first trade
went directly into the stop - it made sense to apply the normal Wednesday rule. Which gave at least some points back.
And I had the time to do so.

Why do you consider the IB vol to be ok today?
How do you define this?

In regards to direction, why did you enter long?

Hi vaag

You have 2 questions which give 3 answers:

1) IB vol is measured volume on first 30min from 9:00 to 9:30
7 to 10K are ok or good. <7K or >10K it is LOW or HIGH - means higher risk.
Decision to take a trade or not to take. Depends on bigger picture (daily) as well.
At the moment the trend is up: That means taking short trades are more difficult
and with higher risk anyway.

2) Monday was IFO day. The numbers are out from 10:00 to 10:30 - that gives the
trend and volume THERE is more important than from 9:00 to 9:30.
In fact before holidays - the IFO volume is not important.

3) Because of the green candle form 10:00 to 10:30 the direction was LONG.
The IFO candle gives the direction in any case.

You mentioned taking short trades is more difficult, given the current upward pressure. Why today did you decide to go short, just before the 500 level?

For this morning on my chart I have the period of the 9 until 9:30 period with a relatively low volume. How did you see it as high?- What do you use to gauge the volume?

Hi @vaag

Wednesday's trades normally are short after my system rules.
Please read the posts for Wednesday in this thread - answers are there.
Concerning my post "with IB vol high": that was a typo. Volume was
2787 contracts - which means low of course. As mentioned in my last
reply - this means "high" risk too.
As seen that Wednesday trade got some positive points on this short.

Good trades

Year end coming next week.
This means that some companies are having last day of their business year.
Means also that some brush up for the stock might happen. Think of bonus
and other...
So on next Wednesday and Friday (the last) good points could result.
Even the markets will be calm some market makers can push prices within
low volume quite a lot.

We are prepaired

Of course volumes were going down during December quite a bit.
So stated in my posts "low volume" but we have seen still some normal patterns.
Starting 2017 the volumes are getting silently back to normal.
Today we can see that the IB vol (9:00 to 9:30) is still low -
BUT - the second candle from 9:30 to 10:00 has doubled to the same candle last week.
This shows quite some interest (or flow back of money into the markets) in the
DAX.
Pushing levels to new higher levels means some surprise to the traders that
are not yet active.
Welcome @ratfink to promising trades during this year!

Happy New Year and a very nice start Maestro!

Looking forward to an active 2017, Dax should be moving well, although I am feeling rather sheepish as I never even thought about it being open today...

Best Wishes for the Year ahead to you and all your readers.

Cheers

Hi GFIs1...thanks for the daily update. I thought it was a 9.30 short if the prior IB candle was red (which it appears to be this morning). Any thoughts on why its a 10.30 short start...or did I miss something in your rules? Also, assume the exit is later than the 12:00 you've noted...unless, again...i've missed something?

Keep up the great work. Interested to see how your results for the year (2016) when you have a chance to summarise.

Many thanks

Hi Canozy

Thanks for your input.
1) The rules - indeed - are complicated: Today the start of IB candle was in 30min cloud. That changes rules.
And as you can assume - there are more interfering rules to understand the total system.
2) The 2016 results summary is in work. I have seen some "black holes" of not written weekly results. Those
have to been noted in one post and you get the final results.

Good trades!

The rules are based on every WEEKday. It is an extract of "patterns" for every weekday.
Important anchor points for a rule are:
1) Weekday itself
2) Range of previous day
3) IB volume
4) cloud (30min and daily)
5) Upcoming holidays
6) Triple witch day
7) IFO day
8) IB extreme range
plus some more.
EVERY rule is important - so is the top down priority of all the rules.
If trades are taken despite high risk - they are counted in the journal here.
Some trades are positive - some not.
So the decision when to NOT trade is MOST important. As it can ruin the account.

Just to think about a normal "everyday" concept. Of course there are some difficult
times (like last half year - US elections) but then the patterns while volumes are
guaranteed are getting to normal.
In our case I am skipping Tuesday and Thursday as a result of the statistics from
last 3 years.
Just skip the difficult moments to not spill money on undefined base or on "thin ice".

Here a short overview of the pattern today which occurred within the Cloud in 30min.
cloud: watch how price touched the low of the cloud to be rejected.
Goal of the trade system is to omit influence of US futures. Therefore no open trades
when US market is open.
