Not sure about the result of UK Brexit now - the Dax chart shows quite a bit
in advance. While the last days had a very good support (120 min cloud) that
will be vanished on Friday morning.
A price of 9760 is foreseen and realistic.

Attention:
This is NOT a trade recommendation.
Fact is that the markets are making 300 or 500 points jumps in no time.
It is for gamblers - not for traders because those price changes up and down
are not reflecting the real gains of the companies included in the indices.

Be aware of those relations.

If above scenario will happen - then some decent down will be highly possible.
(Of course - the contrary move up is also in view).
If the down move is on its way - then please watch January low 9314 exactly.
9266 is some support but no more.
Just one of the possibilities.

If Brexit is YES - then price moves
If Brexit poll gives a NO - then price moves too....

Things are complicated either way.

Pound lost 10% which means low like 1985.

NIKK lost 8,5%

Markets down. Looking at the opening of the Dax future.

This week watch for levels in the indices on 30th of June which is last day
and important for half year results for the companies.

Then important is 4th of July in USA - that means a long weekend (and not much
to see in Europe stock exchanges).

Good trades

No trade will be taken - as written above.
Same for Monday (US Independence).
Next standard trade will happen on Tuesday - then Wednesday and Friday.
Watching clearly the volumes on IB before taking any of them.

So the first half of the year is history.
This is the good moment to look back on the performance of both my systems.

Coming in next posts.

Dax over all was 10% in minus from 1.1.2016 to 30.6.2016

The winners of the 30 Dax listed companies were:
Adidas: +42,9% - RWE: +21,2% - Vonovia: +14,7%

The losers were:
Deutsche Bank -45,2% - Commerzbank: -39,2% - BMW: -32,6%

Of course the losers are the heavy traded companies and led the index
fall sometimes under the low of January 2016.

It was clear that the 10k in the index was many times the hot spot to
dance around - now ending under that magic point again.

While I had decent positive results with both trading systems since inception of them
(watch journals of both from beginning) the systems were performing quite differently.

In the GFIs1 1 trade per day system the shaky market was influencing quite much the
result. There were good days and too many bad as well - the result in points was around
zero but the costs brought the account down a bit.
Comment: Even on risky days I took the trade - telling and knowing about a possible
bad outcome. Quite some trades with high risk (as announced at the beginning of a trade)
went into stop loss.
Hint for future time: Omit those trades when initial balance (IB) is not within normal range.
At least the result still was better than the index itself.

Looking at the Walzer - things were much better.
Even or despite shaky times - the Walzer is an instrument to take the points out when markets
move heavily. Therefore the result was nearly the same as in first half of 2015 which shows
the longtime stability of the idea behind.

Now looking at the trading time needed then the Walzer is still the best of all:
It is semi automated and does not need screen time.
For the 1 day system the screen time was not much - but did not pay out at least the last 6 months.
As this system is documented now for 4 years with quite still good results over this period we
can see that different markets can have strong impact on the final performance.

Even the 2 systems are doing differently - they show their strengths in very different markets.

Thank you for your Journals.

Do you have maybe an Equity curve of those systems, produced in a way of sum of results for each one of them, and also distribution of results (histogram chart). I would like to see those charts in a way when you risk 30 points that this is represented by 1 on chart, and if trade is loss then it is -1, so 60 points win would then be 2 on chart.

Can you please make those chart for each system and then one combined, I am very curios about those, thanks.

Hi Caerus

Go back in this journal at every year end - the histograms are there

For the Walzer I need to make one - did not do it as the Walzer did not occur every week.
But a short chart with monthly bars is no problem. I will show it in the appropriate thread.

So an overlay of both will be easy as well.

Hi Cheros

I am trading with IB. The margins in the Dax went up this year. With the Brexit days even more...
One contract FDAX today is 13350 (inital) and from the second contract 10680 per contract
For the Dax Mini FDXM it is 2670
The margins depend always on the price level of the Dax itself. They can be changed often.
It depends on your strategy and money management how many contracts you trade.
With a risky strategy and large stops I suggest to trade less contracts.

Dax climbed again to Tuesday low this morning (9492).
Price is in 30m Kumo. Future Kumo is turning red again.
It is highly probable that we will see new lower lows today
and tomorrow.
88xx is highly probable to test again.

Be aware

After 3 losses in one week there is no Monday trade.

Even the IB volumes were ok - we have some conflicting rules today.
Means staying at the sidelines.

So for the next weeks there will be a consistent rule check before entering:
1) IB vol needs to be 7k or greater but less than 10k (30min)
2) if some higher risk is seen (be it to little volume later):
NO trade will be taken to protect capital.

Instead if some Walzer shows up - this one will be checked as well for taking.

No greetings from here...

But some Warning:

The summer weeks are often part of playing on the markets with
very different volumes during one session.
Every "good looking" trade can hold very thin support on the long run.
Repeatedly - believe it!

Thus staying at the sidelines is not bad - markets will react more normal
from end of August again.

Hi, may i ask what was your trigger for a BUY ?

My trigger for a short was a Thursday daily candle.
Friday was an inside day. Showing possible weakness of buyers for Monday.
Sold 10098.0 stoploss 10102.5 target 10005.0

Hi, may i ask what was your trigger for a BUY ?

Good morning zmaj

My trigger is nearly always the IB 30 min candle (of same day).
Today that one was green.
So I took the long after a small rebound from 10:30 - as rule for Monday says.
As you can see my exit time is also defined...
Stop loss triggers 30 points away from entry.

Hope this helps.

right there with you
short 10116.5 stoploss 10128.0
The daily chart is showing a good promise.
July 14th is the strongest day.
Therefore looking for the price to move below 10101.5 in order for more sellers to come and join our cause.

Tuesday target 10121. If Thursday high, 10189.0 becomes the resistance.

Daxy daily chart shows Monday as the strongest day. Brexit gap is done. Sellers must organize now.
If the sellers can organize properly, Monday high, 10257.0 is going to be their main target for Wednesday.
I'm looking to short the last month high, 10340.0

Go @GFIs1

FOMC today @ 2pm

Thursday should see more sellers participate and move the price lower, 10245.5, 10154.5

Hi,

normally the 30 pts. SL should have been hit at 10:00 candle spike (high 10354) even with entry @ 10319 and not @ 10313 which was the 9:30 candle opening...

thanks,

My entry (also to see on chart with Interactive Broker Data is/was 10319).
On last of month as well as first of month my SL is 40 points as on that moment
(I mentioned LOW volume on IB) some stronger vola is given.
So to calculate the max negative movement in the trade: high 10354- entry 10319 = 35 points.
You may have different data depending on the clock and/or broker.

Some thoughts of the GFIs1 system here after the first half year 2016 with quite some negative results:

The rules were NOT changed and are runnning since 4 years in the same manner.
Impact:
Some faults on my side in the analysis especially watching previous day situation before deciding
which rule is due. Or forgetting about an upcoming holiday...
The first half year 2016 had much stop loss moments that took the accumulated gains into negative.
Now it seems that normality (sic!) is back and the rules produce more consistent gains and no longer
so many trades with stop loss.

As I already was thinking of forcing the system to pause I see decent profitability - so I will
continue. We are from previous year's results after 7 months: but regarding a ~30% gain for seven months
on investment is still ok. Even counting the drawdown had on first 5 months.

You are a seasoned trader, nevertheless I want to show my respect explicitly for this decision
to stick to the plan.

We both know it's not really funny to experience such drawdowns which can always be just
around the corner. Deciding whether that is still normal within the boundaries of the system
is an art - as well as standing the emotional pressure and clearing one's mind under such
conditions.

Good trades!

It is good to see you moving ahead again. Here's hoping that it continues, and that the earlier drawdown was a temporary matter.

I agree with @choke35 on this:

You are a seasoned trader, nevertheless I want to show my respect explicitly for this decision
to stick to the plan.

We both know it's not really funny to experience such drawdowns which can always be just
around the corner. Deciding whether that is still normal within the boundaries of the system
is an art - as well as standing the emotional pressure and clearing one's mind under such
conditions.

Good trades!

Thanks @choke35 for your words - much appreciated.
I learned following some journals of others here on FIO - that 3 years of unchanged rules
often get a real "burnout". Most of the journal writers disappeared then in the dust though.

What we can learn from it:
Systems have often a good base. But condition of and with markets are changing over time.
One needs to have a good money management and reduce in uncertain periods the risk
of the trades taken. When everything is back to the "known" or "felt" levels things can
go back to normal size and pace.

Dax made a Hi/Lo range of 271 points to close near the entry.

The needed reach of the support low was washed out in minutes.
Reaching the high in the morning of the upper cloud level was amazing.
Pic needed?
Then a come back from the down to the entry was given.

Now - what the heck will form now?
The upswing is on the plate - but not to catch 11k level(s) right now.
A next good high on this move can reach 10866...
Lets see tomorrow

This is exactly what I am going thru right now, my damn system will do good in real testing but when I decide to turn it on for real money that whole experience is different (not good) so I am going back to point # 1 and 2 and also trying to find another instrument for diversification.

Tomorrow Monday US holiday "Labor Day" mixed up my gains...

Labor day is not a fix date but the first Monday in September. A US holiday.
Which influences European markets. It did.

I had a rule conflict on last Friday which ended in a stop loss.
Now I had to adapt my rule to the really rare occasion of having Labor Day
so early to the Last of month (means August).

Slight change in my long rule set - and BINGO - it should work from now on.

But my now obviously false decision steered the trade into a stop loss of -30.
Instead of getting 164 points with the long anticipating the US holiday.
grrrr...
Point.

Good trades!

PS: A special greeting to @Big Mike and his wife on their sweet honeymoon weekend!

Hi bmtrading9
Markets since start of the year show significant change of behavior.
That means normally to stay at the sidelines and to NOT trade real money.
Thus being prevented from losses.

But those findings need courage (and lost time staring at nonsense charts)
to find out that those hours are unpaid.

Moving to another market does not reduce the risk.

IF you feel uncertain on how to invest your money wisely - wait until
markets are back to "normal" again.

My filter to decide in the Dax is IB (9:00 to 9:30) should reach a min volume
of 8k contracts and be not over 11k. That is a rule of thumb which prevented
the system making to many negative trades.
Find it for your instrument.

Good start in the new week!

I am glad I am thinking in the similar terms like you. Basically, I am looking at relative volume but with my recent software change to multicharts couldn't find good relative volume indicator. Whatever I found online not working in real time. I will definitely explore your idea.

My main issues are 1. Not having time at proper time and 2. Not letting the system run it's course for full day/week.

ES/NQ/YM might be an excellent candidate for the above min and max volume threshold filter because I believe DAX trades the same way. I will try to backtest and find it out. I said this before (maybe 3 or 4 years back) also, I really like your simplistic approach and thanks for all the help here.

Great! Thx @ratfink

Well done! Much smiling now. I WILL FRAME YOUR CHART!

And where are WE now? 10364 actually when writing again

Monday trade seems a difficult one:
because of very high (attention here) IB of nearly 17k contracts in 30 minutes.

Anyway
Dax long from 10:30 to 13:00
entry @ 10363
exit @ 10361 no chance
result -2 points

IB vol very HIGH
