Yesterday a trending day with a large down move.
Looks like that could continue today.
KijunSen is @ 11896 - and horizontal: so a closing on that one is highly possible.
A move down around 11840 area can be previewed.
Some US numbers this afternoon at 14:30.
Here no daily trade: but if a bolder move down is to see we can
look to get maybe a entry for a WienerWalzer.

Good trades

Absolutely, trade as rules call it. Plus it's already back at open, so my rules tell me it's likely to go up now at least the same distance it went down.

Trade to live. Not live to trade.

..develops as described: the downmove is heftier than thought.
Some support is to find @ 11600 area.
Before the US numbers 14:30h no soft landing expected.

So we will concentrate on Wiener Walzer instead :-)

a strong penetration of 11650 would be an interesting signal as that would be a lower low after higher (AT)highs.

would not be surprising. we will know soon about the greeks if they can manage to eject themselves from the euro or cause more excessive drama. not to mention the rumblings in the east and middle east could then take the stage..

so far money flowed out of the risk assets today:

two bearish possibilities are sketched on the chart if 11650 is penetrated. red or blue.

just my musings since I have no skin in the DAX game at this time.

Next possibility Wednesday under normal rules.

Have a great weekend!

Walzer post above went into the wrong thread
Of course not counted into this thread's result calculation.

Special to mention:
Nice to see that the rule restrictions - especially to NOT take a trade
when vola is higher than normal - is very efficient.
And to have a alternative system on these no-trade days that give
some extra points is most welcomed.

Great stuff. I guess we have arrived to a similar conclusion - particular methods are suited to a particular market volatility. it's sad to see many traders persist doing same thing over and over again when market, yes, "wrong".

Trade to live. Not live to trade.

Exactly!
As I do not "watch" the market all day - there is a need of having some very strong rules for different markets.
If followed these rules strictly - many bad holes can be omitted. And therefore some good points rest.

It smells like the Dax might close today with a Doji:
12021 was the opening - now I am looking forward

From there a further slip to 116xx should be seen before higher
prices could follow.

what can I say.. You finally got to me - I am officialy down to one trade per day by my rules.

In the distant future, I can already visualize myself camping in front of maybe three different markets, predetermined levels with note for required reaction. One shot per instrument. Bang, next.

If it only wasn't so tough to be patient...

P.S.: Nice to see you got another bread n butter setup

Yesterday: range 173 points and quite high volume with peaks.
Total volume was > 120K contracts.
Not the best conditions for a normal trade - so not the usual Wednesday short.

But maybe a Walzer could chime in...

High volume and no direction. As well as much uncertainty in the moves
as price shot up and down several times. Only to come back to the entry again (nearly).

From backtesting data it appears that the previous days range is not an issue as regards a following day range.Hence todays short would of been a nice + points trade.

Thanks @CPRICE76 for mentioning.
It is Wednesday in extremis that is on both sides useable. But my longtime views on all weekdays
concerning 150+ points were all the same: negative.
Now I tried my short wednesday rule TODAY with an entry 10:30 @ 11952 short and exit 13:00
@ 11854 which gave today 98 points.
On that one you were right.

But it is a lot of fun to dance the Walzer!

Today we had a range of 272 points so far (still 45 min. to go on cash hour).
This prevents taking normal trades tomorrow and on next Monday.
Tomorrow Friday special occurence whith IFO 10:00 and 14:30 US numbers.
Some more shaky moments for sure.
Next week is a short week as on Friday 1st May the Dax will not be traded.
And the week is ending with the trading day of the last of month: Thursday.
In fact the system here allows only a trade on Wednesday in the next week:
if all components are green by then

So looking into a good volume week coming I think some more Walzer
could be taken.

Good trades

Hi @CPRICE76

I traded yesterday not concerning this thread - as mentioned in my wednesday post above.
My rules prevented to take a trade HERE as the previous day was to volatile.
But I traded a Wiener Walzer shown in my other thread.
And on your input I calculated what theoretically THAT wednesday trade (not taken) would have given.
So all points are counted in here WHEN traded. And for this week we stay at ZERO. No gain - but
better NO loss!
For understanding: GFIs1 1 DAX trade are announced in this thread before taken with entry / exit
and
trades during high volatility phase when a trade HERE is not allowed
can be taken in the other thread if there is no rule conflict.
Results will be shown in each thread seperately. Just to be clear about the journaling.
Sorry for any confusion.

Yesterday 349 points!
Therefore: No trade possible here today - and no trade at all this week.

Attention: Today FED - last session before summer holidays

Where will the Dax land after FED tonight?
There is a triangle with a clear down possibility.
And it it needs a down shift to 11600 area before anything goes.
Exactly there is daily Kumo upper part.
Now it will be interesting if price dives in next weeks or just takes it as a support
and heads for new ATH....

Where will the Dax land after FED tonight?

GFIs1

Wednesday was indeed a special day in the Dax:
Not only FED and bad economic numbers but a overall taking out steam in the
last up movements made the price tumble into the thick Ichimoku cloud.
As the price went quickly underneath 11600 we might see the Dax 500 to
1100 points lower very soon - getting out of the cloud south:
This means a level of 105xx is not out of reach.
Next bigger red days should be starting first week of May. There the cloud bottom
is horizontal and attracting price.
We will see where it heads to: inside the cloud always some hefty intraday moves
are normal - so some prudence or staying at the sidelines is not a bad idea.

Good trades
and have a great long weekend!
No Dax trading on Friday

Skipped due to high volatility on Thursday (last of month)
and price still in unpredictable Kumo (daily) right now.
Standing at the sidelines.

10928 cloud bottom...
but this is not the finish point:
from there lower as mentioned in earlier post.
Only the moment of arrival is not given in this post.
But now we know that these moments are in a small window
from today to next Monday.

Dax made a nice Doji yesterday.
Price is still in daily Kumo. This cloud bottom today and tomorrow is horizontal
and attracting price. So this could be a week with two larger moves on Tuesday
and on Thursday (expecting lower volume on this partly holiday BUT high vola).
Getting out south of the Kumo (@ <11200) will bring the correction mentioned
above.
If today a strong red candle occurs - then the wednesday trade will be skipped
and on thursday a trade should be ok.

DAX is open to trade - the future also

Scenario was like thought: Tuesday down, Wednesday no pattern, Thursday down.
The price in the IB from 09:00 to 09:30 nearly tested the cloud on the lower part.
This is a good sign we can see some downshift.

Today's trade:
Dax short from 10:30 to 12:00

entry @ 11321
exit @ 11341 SL
result -20 points

IB vol good

Monday has no trade as last friday range reached 255 points.
Next week on Monday is US closed (Memorial day).
This means no trade on Friday anyway. And right there is IFO 10h too.

Smells like the bigger moves will be seen on Tuesday and Thursday.
And today heading for 11674 upper resistence to turn down again.
Looking forward to these 2 days!

Good trades

Last friday price came out south of daily Kumo - but closed within again.
This morning price is definitely out of Kumo as the bottom line came up to
@ 11471.
If price still is traded south of Kumo we can look again to trade a Walzer.
Higher vola during this week and good volume until Thursday seems
obvious.

Gap this morning - jumping over 11674.
Price still in Kumo. But opens above down flag!

Scenario today long until that price and then sideways.
Thursday taking out money of the markets for long weekend.
That might be the counter day to today ;-)

After a tremendous upmove in the first minutes after opening,
all things are on the table. The jump is a result of the EUR/USD.

This gives a trade short from 10:30 to 12:00
entry @ 11827
exit @ 11800
result +27 points

IB vol very high!
Risky trade for strong nerves only.

GFIs1

PS: even the trade was very well placed (counter trend) - the final
result is NOT that good as the Walzer was this morning on that
very special pattern

It was indeed valid - ONLY - because IB 30 minutes had a range of > 115 points.

It is highly probable that after hours tonight the price is moving up more.
That could lead to a nice friday trade being bounced at resistance at around 11923
and coming down before end of day.
Just let's see...
Price is still in daily Kumo. Some indecision is still seen - which makes trades not easy.

Today is IFO announcement @ 10:00
Looks like the volume is still there.
Then upon the IB a decision about when to start: 9:30 or 10:30
At least all interesting.
Monday Memorial Day.

Thanks for asking:
Of course I do NOT trade before IFO numbers because the price can be shaking out any stop loss!
There is one exception in my rules here: shhh - only for you: if price during IB is getting out of
previous days range - then I start on 09:30 already - and before IFO numbers. And as you can
see in the direction of IB candle. Easy - isn't it?
The IFO numbers seem to shine through already at the beginning of the day

Good trades!

GFIs1

Confused. You say you do not trade /have a position over IFO release? But todays release was at 10:00
, but you had a open position between 09:30- 14:30???

Being from London you should know the meaning of the word "exception" in the section you quoted
Re-read it and it might become clear.

:O)

You say you do not trade /have a position over IFO release?

I am happy to tell you that you do not have to reread all 2080 posts in this thread again.
My rules are here to protect me from bigger losses.
So today: Price is in Kumo. Second, previous day was not out of 150p range. Third - IFO day which
"NORMALLY" starts 30 minutes after IFO number release - should be 10:30. Fourth - there
is a special rule (I said - shhhhh) to get in one hour earlier if the price during IB is getting OUT
of yesterdays daily range:
ALL this happened today. If you like to reread my post from 08:46 this morning - there exactly
this special occasion was posted - BEFORE it happened.
Just to be clear - nothing hidden...

Have a relaxed weekend

Thank you for following this thread regularly.
As I am posting now more than 3 years nearly without any pause how I take one trade per day on the Dax
I am looking back to many dear followers with just ONE simple question:
"Could you take personal profit(s) on my announcements in this futures.io (formerly BMT) thread here before taking a trade?"
A easy yes or no is perfect - if you have comments - feel free to put them here or by pm.
I will of course give feedback on the sum of answers - including the ones by pm.

Thanks

As a regular reader and casual poster: yes.

I do not imitate the trades, but the main positives for me are:
  • longer time horizon (scalping posts are a dime a thousand)
  • your discipline of execution
On days like Thursday (ECB minutes) I surely have a different risk
preference, but I respect and appreciate your style.

Good trades and thanks for sharing your experience!

Thanks for doing it, GFIs1! Personally I do not, probably I could if I wanted to trade by signals, but I highly value your perspective, view, thought process, daily horizon. It helps me to develop, learn DAX, improve my own analysis and market uncertainty acceptance. Danke schoen!

Trade to live. Not live to trade.

Very nervous market at start this morning.

Dax LONG 11:00 to 15:00

entry @ 11770
exit @ 11740 (SL)
result -30

IB vol very high

GFIs1

comment: many influences right now - the counter direction
was not really playing out today.
but some more gap closing down or even heading for getting out south
of Kumo is still possible.

Tomorrow no trade - as the range today was exceeding rules

ONE possibility rests to take a trade tomorrow.
But we need to wait for end of IB to decide.
Stay tuned

Today Friday and last day of month. May is always a good volume month!
Higher vola expected - but down trend is shown by the chart. Soon some lows to
get out south of Kumo (as written earlier) are highly possible. From there some
quick down movements can give a weaker Dax.

Dax short 09:30 to 16:30
entry @ 11622
exit @ 11470
result 153 points

IB vol good
High volume and vola expected
SL wide

Higher vola expected - but down trend is shown by the chart. Soon some lows to
get out south of Kumo (as written earlier) are highly possible. From there some
quick down movements can give a weaker Dax.

The scenario happened as written in several posts:
Price closed south of daily KUMO (finally!)
With a range of >260 points on this last we had a distinct downmove.
Means also no trade on Monday! There I expect a undecided retracing to close around
11490 area (Kumo cloud bottom). And a second bold downmove on Wednesday.

In June we might see some quick downs again to the beginning of the month.
Next level to reach very soon: 11166
then 10696 which needs to be seen in this correction.

Being aware of low volumes in July/Aug we can see good activity in June - so be
alerted to see some higher vola days with good volume.
For the weak nerves better to stay at the sidelines.

Good trades!

My stop was 50 points - as I could not watch the development online.
Coming back late I saw that the chart came out as expected - of course
with a counter move - but in the end it paid out.

Hi,

wouldn't it be great if together with your entry point you also mention your SL points for the day?

On Friday it exceeded your standard 30 SL points by far.

The biggest problem with dax-trading is the noise (hitting the SLs on initial correct entries)

"Erstens kommt es anders und zweitens wie man es denkt..."

regards,
alex

Hi Alex
Thanks for asking.
The stop of 50 points (on last day of month + friday) - and the price went nearest to max. 45 points.
Some margin still left.
There are tight stops (20), normal stops (30) and on special days with foreseen high vola 50 points.
These stops were optimized over time and had shown good money management if selected trade direction
was really false.
As this is a private journal and not a paid service - all time invested by me on this blog are on my own costs...
