I hope you don't feel I'm crashing your DAX thread here, if so , my apologies, I'm new to this forum. Daytrading gets a bit lonely sometimes LOL!

This is his journal, it would be better to create your own journal, or use the general FDAX thread

ECB decision and Draghi speech brought surprise and upmove into the market.
Today's entry was no longer following yesterday's uptrend.
Range yesterday within cash hors was 197 points.
This exceeds the system range rule.
So no Friday trade!

IB vol. good

Daily Dax has crossed Ichimoku cloud on Friday. Today important for the next steps in the bigger picture:
Up or down!
Be it resistance then some down - otherwise further up plus new ATH...
Compare what S&P does - Dax will have same reaction.
This will show how long Draghi's announcements may hold...

looks like lower prices could be seen this afternoon:
Price started outside of the flag of the last weeks on the downside. Could make an attempt to
lower side of flag around 9670/9690 before falling back again.

9600 was important monthly cash support, I'm thinking it has to lift soon and not lose 9550, otherwise we test 9400 with weekly resistance in charge.

First upside are 9670, the 9720 then new highs if party mode back on for Sept/Oct instead, but it matters nothing as we know each day is it's own.

Dax and other indices futures will end this Friday: Dax 13:00h on 19th of september.
Remember that in triple witch weeks volumes are normally high. Price volatility may
be high too.
For the risk averse: stay at the sideline.
For all others - jump in and adjust stops when it runs for you!

Last september GFIs1 Dax trade will be on Wednesday.. Friday then new december future.

Hi GFIs1

Firstly I would love to congratulate you on your level of consistency that you have shown with your trades... something I aspire to.
I have been trading the DAX myself for the last 4 years and have grown to enjoy trading it (well sometimes I don't).
I have been making points but not to the level that you are achieving.

What really impresses me is how you consistently seem to handle all the market moves... I find this very hard to do. I still find myself changing the way I trade depending on the outcome of my last couple of trades... I try not to do this, but I still haven't got there yet.

I have a question regarding how you calculate your stops, or how you move them etc...

For me I lock in a 16 point stop and that is set...

It seems that most of your trades have a 15 point stop sometimes 30? or maybe 20.
With your last trade I thought your stop would definitely be hit... so my question is how did you handle your stop?

Cheers
Stu

Good Morning Stu
My stops have two aspects - I am using normally a 30 point stop - in insecure phases a 15 point one.
The insecurity is often announced with the trade - or even for weeks as "price is in daily Kumo" as example.
But there can be adjustments to important levels:
The levels xx12, xx33, xx66 as well as xx96 levels are often places as turning points and are more often touched
than other levels in the Dax. Therefore I may adjust the stop according to the entry level of the start of the trade.
Yesterday I had set a stop to 20 points on a account that had not much margin. This was due to the point that xx66
level was too near to the 15 point stop. Unfortunately the 20 point stop was hit then...

Hope this helps

On the one account with a smaller SL I lost with the 20 point stoploss 20 points.
On all others where I had 30 points SL as the new contract started the "normal" week
I won 23 points which is documented here.

Good trades

We had two short days in series. Now Wednesday normally is a turning point:
Some long tomorrow is highly possible - before eventually the down trend may be continued.
As today a Hi/Lo of 147 points occured - we are still in the run.
Looking forward to tomorrow's long (which will be time restricted of course).

Yesterday the day range was 228 points. Far more than a normal day.
Interestingly the high volume days were Tuesday and Thursday (126K and 141K contracts in the Dax future).
Of course the highest ranges were on those two days and not on Monday, Wednesday - probably not today.
We find the price now on daily cloud support (9480). For a crossing of the cloud it is some days too early.

Today no GFIs1 trade as vola range yesterday exceeded limit.

Don't forget today 14:30 US BIP 2nd quarter - might shake again

Nice job journaling @GFIs1.

I want to let you and all your readers know that in October futures.io (formerly BMT) has a Trading Journal contest w/prizes. The contest runs October 1 to October 31, and the three best journals (as decided by futures.io (formerly BMT) members) will receive a 150K combine from TopstepTrader.

The contest thread is here:

That thread will be open for posting starting Wednesday, October 1. As the author of your journal, you need to make a post in that thread linking to your journal, and then ask users to press the "Thanks" button on that post if they want to vote for your journal to win the contest.

Members can vote for as many different journals as they want. Votes are cast in the Contest thread only, and only on the first post made by the author of the journal that contains a link to their journal. This is done so I can easily count the "Thanks Received" by author/journal, and award the three prizes.

so the movement was really not there - only sideways - and price closed above supported daily cloud as previewed.

Thanks Market Sniper
Yes - 3rd October is "Tag der deutschen Einheit" a holiday. My calendar says that stock markets
are open - there are even a few announcements from Germany that day.
My criteria will be Intial Balance first 30 minutes on cash hours - volume must exceed 5K to take
a trade.
If not - my son has birthday then: gives more time to celebrate.

Good trades

Today ECB announcement 13:45 - shaking highly probable..

Frankfurt stock exchange spoke about Market Sentiment Index:
private sector bullish 21 points
institutional sector bullish 9 points

This is NOT what I think about the bigger picture:
Price is in daily Kumo and normally does not get out on the upper side (closing price).
So some more downmoves until end of October are quite possible.
Assuming this scenario I would be very careful with longs right now.

Just some thoughts

Draghi made it possible today and sent Dax quickly down after comments

Now the way down to 89xx is open and could build a "W" in the daily.
Just careful watching what happens.

Hi Market Sniper

Yes - nothing official traded.. Derivatecheck.de does not show the
holiday - sorry for confusion.
BNP Parisbas shows some trades - price jumped up to 9333 actually.
But my broker does not show any activity as well.

So wait for Monday - and have a great weekend!

The DAX trading Calendar is not immediately obvious.

Sometimes it is a German holiday but the markets are open. This is true for all regional holidays and some national ones.

The best/only reference really is to look at the trading calendar for the DAX on the Eurex website. Navigation to the relevant info is a bit tricky.

General Eurex Homepage

DAX Futures Page

Eurex Holiday Regulations

The only days in 2014 where the DAX isn't available to trade are:
Jan 1: New Year's Day
April 18: Good Friday
April 21: Easter Monday
May 1: Bank Holiday
October 3: German Reunification Day - Bank Holiday
December 24,25,26,31: Christmas and New Year

The official 2015 Holiday Regulations page has not been updated however the calendar has.

The following is the very unofficial list of days when the market is closed.

Jan 1 2015: New Year's Day
April 3: Good Friday
April 6: Easter Monday
May 1: Bank Holiday
December 24,25,31: Christmas and New Year
This of course doesn't mean that there is the required volume to make things happen on all other days.

Dax reached the point of 93xx as we had seen on Friday on some brokers.
Today will no trade take place as Friday was a holiday and Thursday had
this sharp downmove.

Good trades

This has in fact happened a lot this year. Although a lot of the DAX movement of late has been reaction to the US markets and therefore in the afternoon or evening.

Do you foresee an impact on the "1 Dax trade per day" strategy or is this a sort of anomaly or simply not interesting ?

There are weeks with only interesting moves on Tuesday/Thursday.
This is not easy to foresee on Monday or precedented Friday.
But if one sees it instead of having not trade I consider to watch Tuesday move
and eventually trade the Thursday then.
Will have a look back in my statistics and then decide.

Thanks podski for input.

The downmove was quicker in time than foreseen - but not for sure ending here.
The "W" is still possible with a leg up again. As well as a further down to 87xx next.
And from there even lower levels.
The daily volumes during the last 10 days were always increasing - if the next days
show lower volumes some upmove should be more probable.
Volumes in general were quite high - this means some shifting to the downside has
taken place. This could mean to be a longer trend...

There will be no Friday trade as the Wednesday range exceeded 250 points.
Some unpredictable upmove is highly possible. Rules can not be applied then.

On a easy thursday with the little content of the german "Einkaufsmanager Index" the Dax
was shooting measly 150 points up...
This shows how the market is prisoner of indecision - every little "news" (like Ottawa "terrorist
attack" yesterday) pushes the price indefinitely up or down.
So being cautious is best - right now! Even staying at the sidelines is not false.

Special situation today - looking at Hi/Lo yesterday normally no trade.
Dax long 9:30 to 13:00

entry @ 8998
exit @ 9016
result 18 points

Long until 9123 (Kijun) should be seen very soon.
From there some drop again highly possible.
So only for the non risk-averse today - others stay better at sidelines..

still very volatile...

I thought that you only entered the trade AFTER econ releases to avoid unexpected loses risk, as todays IFO was released at 10.00??

Thanks

Thanks @CPRICE76
you are right - that rule on IFO is normally applied.
Today we had a situtation of
1) starting week
PLUS
2) Upgap on the week too

If you are in after IFO numbers (10:30) - then stay in today until 16:00
Gives around the same result...

Good trades!

Hello I follow your thread and your discipline since this summer (only reading) but I haven't ever made any trade as your indications.
This morning I was prepared to follow you with 2 contracts DAX futures prepared since sunday....
but when I saw your message only 3 minutes later (9.33 CET) I saw the FDAX trading at 9030 (already 20 pips away from the entry level at 9.30 exact) so I decided to not follow your trade and now I'm having a huge loss for a bad trade on EUROSTOXX future.

So instead to have a profit of 7k euro (more or less) I have a loss of .....

When I'll repair this damage I will back to follow your strict rules and discipline.

Bravo GFIs1

Thanks for compliments..
not all trades are really good to be easily shifted to another instrument.
In fact the steep downmove already from 9:00 was a good sign in the Dax to see some
trend - especially with the upgap we had seen with that week start.
Even entering with 20 points left on the table the result was positive.
Never look back on any trade - tomorrow the market will be here too.

Good trades

Hi GFIs1, I think that tomorrow there will be no trade because the DAX exceeded the normal range. Correct?
I noticed that your system performing very well when the price is out of the DAILY KUMO CLOUD. I mean that most of the points gained are concentrated in some days; you have some stats about this?

Thanks in advance for your reply

1) Range today was 233 points - which exceeded much the limit. So normally no trade. But I will try to do one
with a limited stop - as today the price made a Doji, meaning start and end was nearly on the same level.
As tomorrow is the last of month it might give a good trend. Hopefully we can enter 09:30...
2) Daily price in Kumo means turbulences like a plane crossing clouds. In the cloud the direction is difficult to
foresee. So when price is out of Kumo it is normally easier to predict and press more points out of that situation.
Kumo always shows the center over a longer trend - price is normally carving around this cloud.
The moments outsided of the cloud show stronger moves and can be used for some good gains (or losses when
used wrongly).

No stats so far - but some good experience. I have normally written about the inside Kumo situation in this
thread. So some special information can be gathered here.

Dax closed yesterday on 50% fib level.
This morning with japan's help it restarted on 61% fib level (9304).
Today some trend should be seen on this last of the month.

The contest is over now - Thanks all for the thanks given to the journal competitors.
It is amazing that so many journalists are to find here and they are writing
posts in one or more journals regularly.

All the five winners are having a bunch of followers - so are the page views
cumulated on these journals of the five in the contest
MORE than 175'000!

If you are a serious trader with regular trades and you do NOT have a journal
yet - this might be a good moment to START ONE right now.

hmm - after that strange monday it was smelling fishy:
Monday was not normal - Tuesday was stormy
so that after 173 points no Wednesday trade will happen.
I am sure the vola will not be there and a direction difficult
to predict.
So I am looking forward to Thursday - this can be the
counterpuncher to Tuesday...

Year 2013 and 2014 up to current week with GFIs1 system this year here:

Last year the results were much smoother over time - this year the summer brought
some long thirst time to be interrupted suddenly by a sharp gain.
Over all the results over a year is comparable and reaches the same amount (like
year 2012 too - which is not charted here).

Thanks.

Hi there, I noticed that you now only do the 3 trades per week.As of 2015 are you going to revert back to 5 trades per week, as for 2014 the greatest movement days have acually been Tuesday and Thursdays.Just a thought.

Thanks in advance to your reply.

Thanks @CPRICE76 for this input.
My dropping of Tuesday and Thursday is quite a while back (somewhere to find in this thread). This was
a good decision as I got two more free days without any pressure. As the results did not really change
at the balance end of year I can say these two days were not changing much over the year.

But your input is good - even this year we had some very nice moves exactly on Tuesday and Thursday.
I might change a rule (needs some work to look back) to consider trading on these two days - but let
the other weekdays at the sidelines. My intent is not to trade more.. but less with a better result.
Optimizing it is the goal.

Ah thanks.Probably best to trade just the 3 days of the week then. After all as the saying goes " Less is often more"??
The key to your trading is not the fact that you charting skiils are productive but the oldest rule in the book " Cut losers fast and let your winners run"?? And also do not overtrade!!
Correct??

Thanks.

Today's call was clear - the stop of 30 points my optimized maximum.
It had been hit! By FIVE points!
Obviously some bigger players made that tremendous pullback in the
midst of the morning which triggered exactly that stop too.
Stepping out at 15:30 when price ended @ 9204 (+81 points if stop would not
be sitting within 30 points)... gave instead a MINUS (stoploss) of 30 points...

THAT IS TRADING

No need to change any rule here as that is part of the game.
The rules are optimized too to press the most points out of every day.
