Hey.
Does anyone know if there is any version of TS that is performing better than the other? Any specific update version? 9.5 vs 10? Im still running on 9.5 update 27 and im just wondering if any updates after that are proven to work better.
I also recently overclocked my CPU and noticed improvement especially with high volume stocks. Im still not sure what plays biggest role in best platform's performance. Is it number of cores, cpu speed? I have days when its working really nice but yesterday it was really annoying when market opened..
I also set high performance im power options to keep cpu clocks high so they dont drop. I noticed it helps as well.
Just curious if you guys have any theory on freezing issues and hardware.
Can you help answer these questions from other members on NexusFi?
I don't use TOS but in general whatever trading platforms I use, usually biggest impact is due to low cache memory and RAM. Usually we are carrying enough cores with even standard CPU to run platforms, cores come to picture when you are running extremely processor intensive thing, like video editing otherwise you are likely to get bottled up in cache memory and RAM much earlier than just number of cores as far as trading goes.
I'm no expert though, this is just my observation and I run a very low powered machine
Well, if you look into HWMonitor for example the moment market opens CPU gets most of the cores at 80% of usage and temeparature is going really high. I know in TS matrix, times and sales and lvl 2 can give your pc a headache. And its not because of RAM. Cant speak for cache because i have no understanding of that.
Im prestty sure it all comes down to CPU but I would need someone to break it down. If more cores = less freezing. Higher cpu clocks = less freezing. Im thinking of getting new amd ryzen 5900x but got to be sure it will solve issues.
In theory, yes, but in reality, you should pay attention to cache memory too and not just cores.
You can easily check the performance on different machines with different optimizations. This usually comes down to the application itself too, and with that I will conclude. Just my 2c
I use TradeStation on two different computers. Both are quad processors and use this version:
Version: 10.0 (Update 49)
Date: 10/02/2020
The computers are identical. One only runs TradeStation and has not (yet) crashed.
The other comupter runs TradeStation and my daily activities. The computer with other programs running crashes TradeStation 1-3 times per day. The cash usualy happens when I use Outlook or have several websites open concurrantly program. TradeStation will continue to crash repetitively until I reboot. Any suggestions for running other applications with TradeStation?
I would run into freezing problem every once and a while....run a task manager...CPU at 100%....running a 16 Gig 8th generation I7 machine have plenty of CPU left...however NT is running 900+ Meg (12 screens)....once i start running Task manager (couple of clicks between memory and CPU)...CPU comes off...running 6-24%....so I just minimize the Task Manager.....Freezing problem gone.......not sure why....but problem solved....
For anyone interested i found that the same exact setup of my platform works better on old i5 3570k than on i7 5820k. Word better is wrong to be honest.. its excellent now. I can have high volume stocks in background, switch them without freezing. Im actually shopping for 2nd computer with i5 3570k. Dont see a need to play with another cpus. Still not sure if less cores = better performance but it looks like. On paper i7 beats i5 but with TS is causing lags.
