I am setting up a new unmanaged VPS. With Windows (Server 2016) comes a firewall. Now according to Tradestation you should make changes to the Firewall configuration (https://uploads.tradestation.com/uploads/TradeStation-Firewall-Configuration.pdf).

I know some people recommend disabling the firewall completely but I would like to have it enabled for security reasons obviously.

So my questions are:

1. Is it necessary to tweak the Firewall? Does anybody run Tradestation with the regular Windows firewall settings, and if so have you run into any problems?

2. How would I know if the Firewall is actually causing problems? Could it actually stop TS from sending a buy/sell signal (I will be doing automated trading) without me knowing?

Best regards,
Prohet85

The documentation may be a little dated. When you install TradeStation, you may be prompted to add an exception (or rule....whatever they call it) for the firewall. Just allow it and you should be fine.

You can test if everything is working by logging into your simulated account and try to send order (you need to have the appropriate data package.... i.e. not on 'delayed' data). If you cannot login, you cannot send an order. That is how you will know you have a problem.

I hope this helps.

Thank you Vmodus. I thought the documentation was dated. Everything works as expected!
