1) How long have you been using TradeStation? 1 year
2) What are your favorite features of TradeStation? Automation/algorithmic trading, historical datafeed
3) What are some must-have deal breaker features in TradeStation that you could not do without? the historical datafeed, backtesting facilities, Easylanguage, the all-in-one availability of brokerage + platform + development tools
4) Do you use TradeStation in simulation mode only, or do you place live trades with it? both
5) Are you a discretionary trader or an algorithmic trader? How does TradeStation help you with this? 100% algorithmic. TS is the best about that
6) How easy/hard was it for you to learn to use TradeStation? not hard. they provide a very well done set of webinars and tutorials
7) How do you rate TradeStation's customer service/support, assuming you have needed to use it? they basically reply in 24h. not bad, but could be better
8) Do you believe TradeStation is competitively priced? prices suck: commissions, platform fees... everything is more expensive than competitors
9) How do you rate the community support that exists for TradeStation? a very good community. Would love to see some more TSers in futures.io (formerly BMT)...

i took a trading course here in méxico df. the instructors use and recommend tradestation. also, and crucially important as well, as tradestation are brokers themselves they are also endorsed by the institute i attended as brokers. being a foreign national makes getting a trading account in the usa quite cumbersome, so the guidance i got from my instructors in setting up my trading account was very valuable in itself.

1) How long have you been using TradeStation?

about 3 months.

2) What are your favorite features of TradeStation?

very robust platform, does everything, very low cpu usage. order matrix is very nice, the scanner capability is outstanding.

3) What are some must-have deal breaker features in TradeStation that you could not do without?

i bought a very robust indicator, there are some nice programming developments out there. also, just this week i merged by hand two existing indicators to create an indicator of mine. easy language is very intuitive.

4) Do you use TradeStation in simulation mode only, or do you place live trades with it?

both.

5) Are you a discretionary trader or an algorithmic trader? How does TradeStation help you with this?

more discretionary i would think, but i do use indicators for everything.

6) How easy/hard was it for you to learn to use TradeStation?

it is very intuitive, and they have foolproof explanatory videos in their page and in youtube.

7) How do you rate TradeStation's customer service/support, assuming you have needed to use it?

it is ok. they always reply, although on occasion they might take their time, i have written to them a couple of times with platform and regulations questions.

8) Do you believe TradeStation is competitively priced?

6/10 - 10/10 of a cent per stock per trade, and if you trade more than 50,000 stocks a month the platform fee is waived. so yes.

9) How do you rate the community support that exists for TradeStation?

there is a forum, i'm not a member yet.

Big Mike View Post
Hi guys,

As part of my research for the upcoming "[BLA BLA BLA ="zttp://zzz.bigmiketrading.com/traders-hideout/14442-webinar-where-start-trader-6.html#post264208"]Where to start as a trader (Part II: Trading Platforms)[/BLA BLA BLA]" webinar, I want to solicit input from members about the platforms they use.

If you could give me some information I would appreciate it.

1) How long have you been using TradeStation?
since it was systemwriter in the 80's
2) What are your favorite features of TradeStation?
right mouse click button and menu
3) What are some must-have deal breaker features in TradeStation that you could not do without?
backtesting, good charting, fair data, the ability to quickly script an idea.
4) Do you use TradeStation in simulation mode only, or do you place live trades with it?
simulation mode only
5) Are you a discretionary trader or an algorithmic trader? How does TradeStation help you with this?
algo only, keeps me occupied like playing a game while my real platform tradevec does that actual trading.
6) How easy/hard was it for you to learn to use TradeStation?
not hard to learn we had the omega-list in the old days but hard to translate from other platforms into el.
7) How do you rate TradeStation's customer service/support, assuming you have needed to use it?
crap was then always will be crap your on your own
8) Do you believe TradeStation is competitively priced?
yes very much so
9) How do you rate the community support that exists for TradeStation?
was at one time the best but now it is pure crap worst than ts themselves
Even if someone before you has said something similar to how you feel, please reply anyway. I am gauging response by popularity so need to hear from multiple people even with similar feelings.
i use the platform because i have history with it, i have learned how to cope with the problems it has and have written many external .dll's for it. i also figured out i was on my own and decided to know more about the platform than omega themselves did. many of the features in ts was the results of many hours convincing cruz that he needed to listen to people who actually use the platform for it's intended purpose.
If you have any other thoughts to add please do so. Let's try to keep the thread on-topic, focusing on why you use the platform and leave all other discussion to other more appropriate threads.

Thank you,
Mike

i tried to respond to this thread as others have and twice met a concrete wall, lol. ~m

since i first answered i have made important developments, so an update is warranted.

2) What are your favorite features of TradeStation?

very robust platform, does everything, very low cpu usage. order matrix is very nice, the scanner capability is outstanding.

--- i have learned to use strategies now, the platform optimizing parameters is a thing of marvel and the back-testing is also great.

3) What are some must-have deal breaker features in TradeStation that you could not do without?

i bought a very robust indicator, there are some nice programming developments out there. also, just this week i merged by hand two existing indicators to create an indicator of mine. easy language is very intuitive.

--- also, tradestation can display data in range or kase bars, which are great for filtering noise out. indicators, show-mes and strategies in addition to these special bars are awesome.

5) Are you a discretionary trader or an algorithmic trader? How does TradeStation help you with this?

more discretionary i would think, but i do use indicators for everything.

--- i also have a fabulous automated strategy now.

6) How easy/hard was it for you to learn to use TradeStation? I learned all the basics I needed to use the platform in about a week, but spent a lot of time customizing the workspaces, charts, tool bars, etc. There are still features that I do not know about though. More features than I will ever use.

Hi guys...here goes

1) How long have you been using TradeStation? 3+ yrs
2) What are your favorite features of TradeStation? Like the reliable data connectivity...stability & amazing backup/restore capability. My indicator's i us everyday for most part are built for tradestation. Tradestaion is my main trading platform....though i do use tools/platforms other for additional trading/analysis.
3) What are some must-have deal breaker features in TradeStation that you could not do without? easy to use for discretionary. Reliable....now they also have sub-s data...not that i really need it. But many people had issues with them not supporting it. I have tested other data providers - free and paid top of the line ...TS seems good. The other kool thing...data is almost free....i dont think it costs me more than 25-30$...they had a bundle going on a while back. Adding features & any other International data is a breeze...ofcourse you pay for it
4) Do you use TradeStation in simulation mode only, or do you place live trades with it? Live....have used SIM seldom. One thing would be icing....if they had market replay.
5) Are you a discretionary trader or an algorithmic trader? How does TradeStation help you with this? Am a discretionary trader. But have heard it been very effectively used with concepts such as neural n/w's, data mining - Intelligent n/w's for automation.
6) How easy/hard was it for you to learn to use TradeStation? For discretionary trader it is easy. Doesnt take much sybol / workspace linking...etc.
7) How do you rate TradeStation's customer service/support, assuming you have needed to use it? Have used it...i was happy. Never a problem.
8) Do you believe TradeStation is competitively priced? Pricing was never a problem....i think they asked for 7 round trips....i never really cared....that is done in 2-3 days.
9)9) How do you rate the community support that exists for TradeStation? - I think its good. Some really smart and humble people. If i ever asked a question...there was immediate response. Never really inter-acted much....though have a divergence indicator I use to co-relate my own divergence indicator.

cheers
s

1) How long have you been using TradeStation? 11 Years - I now only have a TradeStation Forex account to avoid all the fees. I don't have live futures data, but the Forex and stock/ETF, and delayed futures which are truly handy!

2) What are your favorite features of TradeStation? Forex Trading, recoverability, stability, solid historical data, that pulls up very fast. Whenever I need 6 months of tick data, TradeStation is the goto platform.

3) What are some must-have deal breaker features in TradeStation that you could not do without? Radar Scanner, ease of trading forex, data is always ready to go and available. I also have to admit that the backtesting and walk forward features are really starting to get quite interesting. The next release could be a game changer in this area.

4) Do you use TradeStation in simulation mode only, or do you place live trades with it? Mostly live trades, however use simulation to test new EL code. It's sad to say that I sometimes use TradeStation to "kick the tires" on new code before converting to a MultiCharts PLA

5) Are you a discretionary trader or an algorithmic trader? How does TradeStation help you with this? Both discretionary and algorithmic. The matrix is very mature, and chart trader is very well implemented. If TradeStation would offer more options on bar types - namely renko bars, I would be more committed.

6) How easy/hard was it for you to learn to use TradeStation? I've more or less grown up with TradeStation, and have to say there were some challenges along the way. At this point TradeStation is very intuitive.

7) How do you rate TradeStation's customer service/support, assuming you have needed to use it? Has gotten worse over the years. There are still a few good people there. TradeStation World is a great resource.

8) Do you believe TradeStation is competitively priced? Not really. They've gotten better over the years, but this is their biggest area of improvement

9) How do you rate the community support that exists for TradeStation? This is one of the best areas of TradeStation - very brilliant people. However will also add that those who have the most to contribute have gotten somewhat pendantic, and sometimes condescending. I believe this must make it difficult for the newbie. It can be a somewhat intimidating environment - however there's always BigMikes!

1) How long have you been using TradeStation?

I have been using TradeStation for 13 years

2) What are your favorite features of TradeStation?

Rapid application development and testing of strategies. Very good for prototyping

3) What are some must-have deal breaker features in TradeStation that you could not do without?

Programming language interface

4) Do you use TradeStation in simulation mode only, or do you place live trades with it?

Live trading

5) Are you a discretionary trader or an algorithmic trader? How does TradeStation help you with this?

100% Algorithmic. TS makes it easy to use as a trading vehicle.

6) How easy/hard was it for you to learn to use TradeStation?

Very easy

7) How do you rate TradeStation's customer service/support, assuming you have needed to use it?

The few times I have called in they have been helpful. I think they have called me asking for help or asking questions more than I have them

8) Do you believe TradeStation is competitively priced?

I believe it is fairly priced for what you get.

9) How do you rate the community support that exists for TradeStation?

I used to be a huge part of the community support in TS, but life and work and agreements got in the way and I didn't have time to spend in the forums. I do not like the forums that exist now nearly as well as I did in the past so I very rarely visit or post
