Thanks boys and girls for both practical and creative ideas! Before the trading venture, I got some great deals on certified organic clothings (most designed and made in the States) for the whole family (newborn, kids, men and women). Tried different channels incl eBay, Craiglist and Kijiji and flyer distribution in the neighborhood. Zero bid from several eBay attempts (starting price @0.99 + a very reasonable shipping & handling fee)!! Zero lead from the flyer channel (1,000 households). 1 sale from Kijiji and made $5 net profit.

For the record, I was selling the organic products @50%, then 10-25% of regular retail price. For example, a 100% organic cotton short- and long-sleeve T-shirts for men @$9.50 and $7.50 respectively while they're selling @$50 and $30 retail. Not even 1 enquiry from anywhere. Oh, I have 200+ friends in my circulation list and only got 1 sale for a lady's T-shirt.

After 1.5 years fruitless efforts, I had Nelson's endorsement to donate them to some non-profit men's and women's shelters. At least 1,000+ in need will enjoy these healthy clothings! Yes, I lost a few thousands $ investment. I was wrong that people are getting more health-conscioius. I thought having a narrow few $ profit margin would work for my first organic business venture. Maybe I was too "cheap" and not spending enough $ on marketing. In short, I promise myself and Nelson that I will not start another business venture that will involve selling products. I maybe talented in some aspects. Unfortunately, product selling does not work for me.

I was a softskills trainer, event organizer and business consultant when I had my own consulting business. It's always my interest and passion to share my knowledge with others. Maybe I will write a book or create a blog on my trading experience .. haha ..

I wish I could know you earlier, after our 2nd boy was born, my wife is really interested into organic/health food/clothing. We started turning most of our food (at least for kids) into organic and some of the baby clothes as well. The stores (whole food markets, trader joes) getting more and more crowded each day, I don't see them slowing down even through this recession,

Hi RiskControlMaster

Me2 .. smile .. When I touched base with a few smaller-scale organic stores, they told me they tried both children and men's apparel before .. not successful. Women are more willing to spend. For me, I was unable to secure their interests to have my products on consignment because of their former bad experience.

I also missed to realize my circle of friends is more practical .. they go for $ and not quality. Nelson and I have switched to organic fruits/veggies/teas/sugar/flour etc 2-3 years ago. Not for organic clothing as they are very expensive here. Oh, Nelson does have some organic T-shirts now as I saved him some before sponsoring the remaining ones.

I started recording some YouTube videos to refresh my learning/experiences gained from the trading journey. Both joy and pain as the journey does consist of tons of roller-coaster rides! I just wrote a blahblahblah titled So You think You Can Trade! and sent it to a few papers hoping one or all may post my coaching business in a trading context.

Well, it's an online business with no headcount (except me). My next step will be to prepare another blahblahblach to some universities offering free sessions. Making noises .. haha .. Wish me luck!

Beth (Grateful for Mike's thread creation and your tips. Thank you! )

Beth,

First of all, if I ran a call center, or a restaurant, etc, I would not hire you because you are over-qualified. I would be afraid you're just trying to get a temporary job and then after I train you to work for me you'd leave once you got a better-paying job more in-line with your skills and all of the training I did was a waste of my time.

I would think your technical skills are still valuable to somebody. As an independent consultant you need to network in your area. Find technical user groups, meetups (Meetup.com, Craigslist) or other groups of people in your profession that get together. Check with your local chamber of Commerce. You can create some leads there.

Also, the online freelance sites are pretty much a waste of time. Unless you're willing to earn the wage of someone in India, the Philippines or Eastern Europe you'll never win a bid. Freelancer.com lists "Metatrader" as a skill and I've been trying to get them to add "Ninjascript/Ninjatrader" programming as a skill someone can subscribe to and bid on, but they haven't added it yet.

On a personal note, why don't you send me your resume and I might be able to find some work you can do remotely, depending on what your technical skills are? I'll see what I can do.

this is what lot of trader experience, trader will get into the business of trading full-time and expect to pay their mortgage bills. What ends up happening is there is a lot of pressure put on you to make something and you will be trading with lot of emotions.

Always have some kinda 2nd income stream that you can depend on. Work a weekend job if you have to.
