the precious metals have market participants that are clustered narrow but great depth trenches,

ES and other equity based contracts have market participants that are spread out in shallow depth trenches save for the institutions, which move the markets based on their (MP / market profile) prints, even when they choose to break up their orders into smaller odd lots over time

so the essence of whom is participating comes into the volitility equation more so than what has been the historical representation of volitility, if you can distinguish between those narrow definitions. to some, I just said one equals one; to others I just gave away the essence of what makes one symbol / contract / market tick over another....

hey, what data source are you using to obtain live VIX data?

Thats a good question...I just use Yahoo.....where can I get live vix?

Hi everyone,

Thanks for all the great advice.

so I am trading the ES with the ACD system. Even when I make an Aup (my Aup values are a lot lower than the prescribed values), the trade still goes against me sometimes.

I am trying to find conditions as to when NOT to enter a trade. Someone mentioned to me earlier to check the ATR?

I also read an article where you should go long if the VIX is above the MA, short below it... maybe I should apply those as filters when entering the trade when there is an Aup /down made?

Maybe MF is right, I should trade the CL instaed of the ES? (but Ihave backtested the system on the ES manually and it is quite pretty) ....

What conditions should I check in order to tell whether to take the Aup?

to everyone who trades on a daily basis using ACD....what methods do you use to determine price targets?

I currently use fib extensions........what are the risks of using fib extenstions?

Have a great weekend.

Possible for two different instruments.

If an A down fails (you get stopped out), there cannot be a second A down. If it does not fail prior to the end of the session, the first A down is still valid.

At least this is what I remember from reading the book. Honestly, I am not 100% sure.

There can be ONLY 1 A down per day per instrument. C up invalidates A up for the day.

ACD Method Intro

Book gives every detail but this link is also good reference point.

I have today updated the opening range indicator. The new version is more adapted to the ACD method.

-> The opening range can be shifted away from the start of the regular session (Mark Fisher suggests to start the opening period at 8:30 AM EST.
-> The new indicator loads a secondary bar series of 1-minute data, which allows to calculate the exact high and low of the opening range. The values will also be exact on charts built from ticks, such as tick, volume, range or renko charts.
-> The indicator can also be used to detect the opening range of the regular session on charts that use an undivided ETH session template. In that case the first (and only) intraday session should be selected and the offset should be set to the time difference between the start of the regular session and the start of the trading day (15:00 hours for CL).
-> Alternatively the regular open or the 1-minute range (range of the first minute of trading) can be displayed.

Below is a chart that shows both the opening range and the pivot range for CL 01-14. The indicator is a preversion, which can be used for testing purposes. Any feedback is welcome.

Hello Fat Tails,

so Mark Fisher is suggesting we use the 8h30 OR for both the CL and ES? ie should I use an opening period of 8h30 to trade the ES as well?

Thanks

BF

In order to have Mark Fisher's recommendations available you need to subscribe to his (rather expensive) service. The last information that I had - it may be well over a year old - was that he uses

-> an opening period from 9:30 to 9:50 AM EST for ES
-> an opening period from 8:30 to 9:15 AM EST for CL

Please don't ask my why, I do not know the answer.

Hi Harry,

Edit There is an issue, but it has to do with calling the custom session template in the MTF versions. Also, the regular versions (non MTF) are giving random signals on the first bar of the overnight session, for some reason. My solution has been to use the new IBRangeBandsV42XMTF with the offset when calling it in BloodHound, even though I am using a custom session template. For some reason, the MTF version just doesn't call the custom session when using it in a strategy (maybe only for BloodHound, I'm not sure) Anyway, please have a look here for yourself https://www.screencast.com/t/Folhut04AO End Edit

It's almost hard to believe how much work you do for all of us, Harry. Just want to say thanks, again...Thanks!

Best,

Daniel
