So your goal is to survive 80% of the days and take big profits 20% of the days?

I will not call 100-200 ticks days survival. By battle, I meant, CL trades in a rotational market ( Auction type trading) 70-80% of the days. So, one has to battle it out and has to be very patient wit set ups. When one trades one way 70-80% of the time, it is very difficult for day traders ( at least for me) to turn the switch on differently on trending days.

By the time trend is set, CL is typically down 100-200 ticks with few pull backs. A day trader like me who trades with 10-15 ticks stop loss find it difficult to find an entry. That's the challenge. I prefer Monday type of trading days more vs trending days.

Pre market thoughts for 12-20-2011

1) tried 1) short 96.90 with stop loss 97.21. + 30 ticks.

2) A up confirmed @ 97.50. Price is at a level where quite a sell off started last week. short 97.54. stop loss 97.71. cover 96.80. + 70 ticks. Had to wait 40 minutes to get paid.

Done for the day.

But that were not any breakout trades, just countertrend trades as CL was already overextended. I guess that this has nothing to do with the ACD method of Mark Fisher. Also I do not see, how A up was near 97.50.

Below are two charts.

Chart 1 shows the 45 min opening period with the A up at 97.25. I would never have taken that breakout trade.

Chart 2 shows the upper breakout point at 96.60 and the target band around 97.00.

A, B, C & D are breakout and stop levels calculated from the opening range. For details see Mark Fisher's book "The Logical Trader".

Did you simply try the noise bands? I prefer them over the ACD magic.
