I am a short term day trader and often trade on public WiFi at coffee shops, restaurants, etc. I was recently told it would be wise to invest in a VPN so I don't get hacked or so that my banking or trading information isn't stolen. I want to make sure I am secure, but I'm also concerned a VPN will slow down my trading speed. I use a Macbook Pro and trade on ThinkorSwim.
I do not understand VPNs very well so any clarification or advice for the best security would be helpful. I've seen some posts saying VPNs will increase pc latency and are not even necessary. Others disagree.
I was looking at SurfShark VPN or PIA. Surfshark also offers anti malware protection for an extra couple bucks a month. I'm wondering if that's worth it where I use a mac.
Any input would be greatly appreciated!
