Rithimc Data feed down again....been down now for over 20 minutes and counting. This is the second time in less than 1 week. Anyone else having these blackouts with rithmic.
First one occurred on 7/8/22 mid day
Second one has occurred on 7/13/22 around the same time of day (11am central time)

BTW, this is on 2 different prop firms. On my personal account my broker uses CQG and never had problems with them.

So, are you experiencing this with live or sim? If sim, it is possible that it is related to the issue that was discussed yesterday about the paper trading (sim) server. I am asking because you mentioned prop firms, and their evaluation accounts are sim (as are those strange hybrid accounts that some have.)

This is not a good thing either way, but it's important to know which it is.

If anyone else is having these issues, please chime in, and specify whether sim or live.

Thanks.

Bob.

Yes they are the paper trading feed from the prop firms. So yes, it is sim.
I know someone on the other side of the country that had the same issue at the same time, Also with a prop firm.

>> Perhaps the problems were with lines connecting from your part of the country dropping packets and not necessarily with the Rithmic servers themselves not permitting you to connect.<<

Wouldn't this affect my other broker too? I'm using 2 different prop firms and an actual broker and my broker has not had these issues. When I reached out to apex on friday, they said that they know the issue exists and that rithmic is working on it (not really sure if that is just a generic line they give everyone or if it's actually true). Either way, makes no sense that their sim feed keeps dropping.

I have a solution for you. Get a different data provider.

It actually does, or at least it is easy to see how it could.

@shortski posted on 7/11/22, in a related thread, an explanation from Rithmic that cited server issues with their sim server configuration. The issues they discuss could easily explain the lags that some users have reported but that others have not. If the issues that members have had were with sim accounts, this is probably the reason.

It goes without saying that it shouldn't be doing this, because the sim service is something that people using the prop evaluation firms rely on, so this needs to be fixed. But so far, users of the live Rithmic feed have not chimed in with the same issues, so this is the likely where the problem lies.

(It makes sense that Rithmic would devote a separate server to provide centralized sim data and processing, since the prop firms need to be able to see the trades their customers are making if they are to monitor their trade performance. But it would also mean that the prop-firm sim and the live feeds and would be different, and one could go down without the other. Which so far seems to be the case.)

Consolidating related threads.

We currently have two threads going on about Rithmic data issues, this one and one titled "Rithmic data latency."

In order to bring them together and try to keep the posts all in one place, I am closing the other one, which is shorter, and merging the posts it contains into this thread.

This may create a little confusion at first, because the merged posts will come in here in the date order they had in the other thread, so sometimes the sequence of the posts may seem a little choppy. But I think it is better to have them together rather than apart.

If anyone has not read the post by @shortski, which is being brought in from that other thread, it has Rithmic's explanation for what is happening. As I remarked in reply, this was a design flaw on Rithmic's part, to have a "single point of failure" in a production system, and they should fix it literally as soon as they can.

I hope bringing these threads together will at least help in getting a handle on what is happening.

Wouldn't work if this is a Rithmic sim server issue, because that server is used by prop firms, so if someone is doing a prop firm evaluation trial, they are stuck if their firm uses Rithmic (as many or most do.)

Normal sim trading is just done on a person's local PC, because no one but the trader will ever need to see their trades. The centralized sim server idea is useful when an evaluation firm needs to monitor the trades in a sim environment. But that opens up the potential for hardware issues that only apply to these kinds of sim-based trading trials.

This is assuming the problem is the sim server, but there is some reason to think so, from Rithmic's explanation, and the fact that traders who are live with Rithmic have so far not reported these very long downtimes.

Well, I’ve been down for about 30 minutes.
I hope this gets resolved soon.

This being the case then it is the prop firm's problem to solve. As these issues can compromise the outcome of the evaluation trial, as long as the connection issues persist, the prop firm needs to give the participants an apology and a free do-over.

I think that is the whole point that they use the rithmics service. It makes people have to purchase more accounts since they have a trailing drawdown and they do not care. That's why in their agreements they tell you that they will not accommodate anything that happens as a failure of the service or platform. They instead tell you to quickly jump on their app or website to flatten all positions. Seems all prop firms are a complete gimmick.
