Who are the insightful Traders/Thinkers of our current time? Sorry to rant but I am quite tired of reading the work from 25,50,75 years ago...like nothing has changed? Sometimes newer work is just a rewrite of 75 year old work. And every time I hear "I used to be a floor trader", I puke a little.
These are radically amazing times with various tools, access to info, and multi-discipline influence. Any suggestions on who are today's thought leaders, and where is their content?
Maybe because in the past it was actual floor traders.
Today it's a bunch of engineers and quants writing their algos that rule the big world... Perhaps the books wouldn't be as interesting... or comprehensible to a vast audience
First distinguish for yourself and decide between the various trading opportunities which the market offers in the meantime. If you are clear and have decided for yourself which trading opportunity/option you want to prefer, then this is already a first approach in which direction you can search. This without reading all the "Alte Schinken", as we say here in German, through.
Also you should distinguish in which topics you are looking for information. If it is about "Trading psychology", then you are also nowadays with the old names in the best way. On the other hand: I also question "Market Wizard" books myself. Here everyone must certainly decide for him self.
When it comes to "Options Trading" and the "Hedge strategies", many times associated with it in various ways and with specific financial tools and papers, then many of the well-known authors are still very current today. This is shown by the fact that most young traders are very often very poorly informed in this direction. But this is another topic.
Also in the area of "Money Management" or "Stock valuations" older book authors are still top.
However, when it comes to pure "Futures" trading or "HFT", then I absolutely agree with you. Here it certainly makes sense to look more for the latest information because, as you yourself write: "These are radically amazing times with various tools, access to info, and multi-discipline influence". Still: Even on those field, special when it has to do with pure "Future" trading, old gurus will not lose their values. And I have learned a lot from them in many different ways in the last 20 years. My mentor was one of those very old school traders, not floor trader, but trading his own money until today.
The above is just to name a few topics as there are many, many more when it comes to trading.
@Anagami Thx for the reply. Yes! I am actually in LBR's trading Room as I type!. (2-day trial) She is an example of an Expert with deep history but keeps refreshing and updating with the modern times. Many excellent Experts were Floor Traders but that is a small part of their ever evolving expertise. There are people, selling alert services, education etc. in which their ONLY credibility is "used to be a floor trader" which on a stand-alone basis, I believe means little today.
@Anagami FYI, LBR terminates the service at the end of December. I am considering joining for Oct-Dec, as possibly a last chance to look over her shoulder.
I did not get your point as you wrote: My, which means you, point about separating topics makes great sense? What did I miss, as English is not my mother tongue? Hope it is a funny case as very often in such over the keyboard discussions.
