My "Viper" is just something that I think functions like the viper. I have no idea if it's like the "real" viper or not. Just a tool to keep me on the right side of the market.

Use the indi posted on this thread earlier and just make sure to use an HMA instead of an SMA and you have what you are looking for.

Hey Cunparis,

I thought you might like a closer look at this mornings trades.

Note: 7:13 price breaks 7:05 swing low after a double top

Note: 7:47 price breaks 7:32 low (this really wasn't the 7:17 swing low which worked also) but the price had retraced about 50% ...this is what floor traders call "half way back"

Remember, trading during news is "a good way to get your face peeled" ouch!

Don't pay any attention to the faster MA it's just an "experiment"

Thank you for taking the time to go back over and annotate the trades more, that is really helpful. I understand why you'd go short on the 2nd trade you higlight (7:47). But what I don't understand is why you wouldn't try for a long?

I totally agree about trading during news. I'm going to start making the news part of my daily routine. Is there a good site that has a list of the news releases?

Hey Skid,

Yes, I've looked at all the different pivots and ultimately decided on the classical pivots. One of the reasons that I ended up with the classical pivots was noting that Brett Steenbarger used them if I'm not mistaken. Plus I think that the more people watch a certain thing in the markets.... it sort of becomes a self full filling prophecy. If a whole bunch of people use classical pivots then market will react at that point.

I've never been convinced that everyone is using these classical pivots. I prefer to use natural ones form the price action. Major swing highs and lows and high/low of day. I think one would have to agree that those would be more influenciel than the mathematical ones.

If you add the natural ones, then add classic, murrey math, etc. you end up with so many that price is always bouncing off one of them.

A good source for natural pivots is https://www.pivotfarm.com/ The guy doing it started a thread on Elite Trader a last year. It was very interesting. I decided not to trade them as he does but I still find them useful. I'm not sure how the new site works, I get them by email every day. I'm attaching today's here. He gets them from the charts, I forget what timeframes, daily & four hour I think. It's a great thread:

I've attached 3 charts, 2 are trades I took and 1 was a setup I was looking for but got distracted or something. For some reason I was real hesitant today which is unfortunate because there were setups everywhere. The first trade was on 6C and was perfect. The second trade was on 6B and I did not wait for my profit target. The third setup was on CL and was an easy scalp but I was distracted or didn't pay attention. I don't know.
Blz

Thanks for sharing your chart. I have one question:

1 - there are a few setups that would have been failed trades, I'm curious how/why you avoided them.

Thanks

You can see at 6:40 that price runs back up to that red line as does OBV but both reverse. Then just before 6:48 you see price and OBV run up again. The price breaks out but the OBV fails to make a higher high. This tells me that the volume is not confirming the breakout. Therefore I wait until the next breakout where you will see the OBV does make a higher high and the price takes off.

Thanks BLZ it's getting clearer, this answers my question about when does OBV not confirm. The only part that's not clear is why did you decide to put your OBV line where you did? I'm curious why it's not above the original peak where resistance started or the peak above that a few bars later? You lowered the OBV line but i'm not sure why.

This looks really simple, I like what you're doing.
