In the Spanish flu video one of the keys was that the first version of the flu wasn't that bad killed a few in Kansas. But the virus mutated. The American soldiers brought it over to Europe and it spread and mutated. Then when it returned to the USA it was much much worse.

This is live counter. Numbers are from sources like WHO, so they are very under-representative of the true story. But its a good indicator of where we are at in terms of spread and its conversion into Pandemic from Epidemic status.
It was around 30k in first week of Feb, around 60 ke on around 14th feb and now its touch short of 80k. Just yesterday morning it was around 78, 800/-, now that number is about 650/- up.
This is very serious trend in rise, there is false sense of security within communities due to low casualty rate against infected compared to SARS but like I said, real numbers are not public so relying on that is not a good idea. Also, we are in phase where its not just spreading from ground zero, there are cases coming to light which have no history of traveling to China or getting in contact with already established carriers, means there is tendency of secondary or dormant spread present.
This is only going to get worse, please take care and adhere to needed precautions.

1) Yesterday a Alitalia plane from Rome landed in Mauritius (Indian Ocean) after the longdistance flight of 11 hours. A group of 40 Italians living in the virus affected area south of Milan was withheld from disembarking. The customs declared to the group as well as the crew to get back to Italy without leaving the plane or to go for quarantine into one of the two large hospitals for 14 days...
2) 1000 hotel guests in Teneriffa must prolong their stay for 14 days after one guest from the hotel had been hospitalized with Corona virus. This will lead to cancels of booked flights, to chaos for new guests arriving (cancelled as well), affecting flights too. There will be for sure more total stops to many more destinations.
Same for goods by air transport...
3) Turkish airlines cancelled all flights to China from today
4) North Italian Post service has cancelled service of post delivery from tomorrow.

Yes, at the start of month India also evacuated our "willing" nationals living in and around ground zero, they all had to stay in 15+ days quarantine before they were released from observation.
I'm not too sure about the goods transport though, I had one parcel coming from JianJiang through HongKong and it came through without any issues, in fact it came in earlier than expected delivery date.
Kind of weird but there should be new policy updates. This delay in reaction is largely fault of WHO and CCP suppressing data. In fact the local Chinese doctor who had originally released video of this has already died due to infection and he was also made to sign a confession of "spreading false rumors and creating public distress" by locale police when he was alive. Way to put everyone at risk, this could've been handled better.

Well, the good news is that recovered in known patients is higher than recording of new patients. Bad news is its still more than 1k new patients per day. And these are known, I've no problem thinking that there are lot more than this considering effected areas are of dense population.
The following 2 users say Thank You to LastDino for this post:
Well this is scary: A patient in California who has cornonavirus didn't travel anywhere known to have the virus, the CDC announced Wednesday night. And the patient wasn't exposed to anyone known to be infected.
Now we will know exactly how fast this spreads, India is pretty open as far as media reach goes, so reports should be real as long as patient is at least diagnosed.
This is actually very bad news, majority of these are Italian tourists traveling to India, they have been in India for some time now, meaning spread in Italy is also not small scale. And neither will be upcoming spread in India.
Points of problems,
1. India is super crowded and super polluted, means many people with already weak immune systems and possibly damaged respiratory organs like lungs. Easy targets.
2. India doesn't have nearly as many facilities to run tests as China does, there will be delay in detection. This is in addition to already long incubation period.
3. India also doesn't have enough regulations in place to stop this from spreading. If it goes into triple digits.
All in all, expect huge rise in that number of "new" and number of deaths might also experience huge spike. I hope they do not, but as someone living on ground location, I can pretty much see the ill-prepared and seating ducks everywhere.

Thai Doctors have a promising treatment using HIV Medications in concert with the flu vaccine...very good results even with infected older patients from China.....
from the article...
The doctors, from the Rajavithi Hospital in Bangkok, said Sunday that a drug cocktail of HIV and flu medication had worked on several patients, including a woman with severe symptoms from Wuhan, China — the epicenter of the outbreak.
"This is not the cure, but the patient's condition has vastly improved. From testing positive for 10 days under our care, after applying this combination of medicine the test result became negative within 48 hours," Rajavithi lung specialist Dr. Kriangska Atipornwanich told reporters, according to Reuters.
The successful treatment combined the HIV medications lopinavir and ritonavir with large doses of the flu drug oseltamivir.

What worries me is that people are still far too laid back, I've come to know that my country only asks to fill a form on airport and asks "Are you feeling sick?" and "Are you infected with Corona-Virus?"
Obviously people are going to answer honestly, and they are going to walk all over the land filled with crowd of people.
In shadows my government has asked pharma companies to stockpile some 26+ antibiotics, but in public no one is really doing anything. People think wearing masks and things like that are "joke", they even justify with reasoning like "we never wore that thing before, it wont make any difference". Hilarious!!!!
People are also forgetting about something, usually flue related viruses go into bit of downslide with arrival of summer but they often come back stronger after summer, so while we might be entering summer, its not necessarily end of the virus if you are not working on vaccines. So Mr. Trumphet, just summer wont beat the Corona, get your act together. China was doing more than million tests per week, in US that number is not even in thousands since the start of spread. That's huge disparity even if we consider Chinese numbers bullshit.
The virus is only dangerous to the elderly and / or those with pre-existing illnesses, so most people who don't fall into those risk categories aren't too concerned about getting it. The biggest risk, however, is that medical resources become strained.
It does not take long for a local outbreak or cluster to overwhelm hospitals. We have seen this already in China and Italy.
In Germany there are just under 1,300 confirmed cases and only 2 deaths.
In South Korea there are over 7,500 confirmed cases and 54 deaths.
In Italy there are over 9,000 confirmed cases and 463 deaths, a substantially higher death rate.
In Germany, there are 8 hospital beds per 1000 people
In South Korea, there are 12 hospital beds per 1000 people
In Italy there are only 3.2 beds per 1000 people
The United States, meanwhile, only has 2.8 hospital beds per 1000 people, and America also has a much higher prevalence of diabetes and heart disease than Germany, Korea, and Italy. In fact, Korea has one of the lowest rates of heart disease on the planet.
The point is that America is NOT well prepared for this, and if outbreaks grow, hospitals will be overwhelmed and critial care patients will, in some cases not receive the care they need. Therefore, if tests show rapid spread of coronavirus in the U.S. I think that more drastic measures will have to be taken to slow the spread. I believe that the many people still underestimate this risk.
This halt of people, money and goods circulation is effectively shaving off half of market gains in last 5 years in my country. Don't see it stopping anytime soon either.

Wearing an anti-viral face mask is smart and what I have done when in large groups of people. They have a metal ion layer that kills 99.9% of pathogens.
The real issue, in my view, is people aren’t comfortable wearing them and feel self-conscious. Boils down to a maturity issue when it’s all said and done.

Yeah the mask is one way to stay symptom free. It’s not perfect but I would say one would be.......85-90% safe.
Not all air you breathe in will come through the mask ..... some could come from around the side. But not much in my estimations.
Pretty nice of them to give you those.
Would go hand in hand with not touching "stuff" with your hands..... no pun intended (is that a pun....lol) IMHO.

Problem with the mask is that it may protect you from direct air droplets, but it will increase risk of you touching your face to adjust the mask much more. I've wore N-95 mask for last whole year as I live in very polluted/crowded city and travel can be bit of pain, so I can speak from experience here that you do end up touching your face much more than otherwise. That leaves you exposed to more possibility of your contaminated hand touching your face. Please remember that corona virus is not just looking for opening of nose and mouth, its perfectly fine with eyes too.
Also, mask tends to get wet from your own droplets, which also attracts foreign particles to stick on them. So there is good chance that you touching the mask would be act of you touching some contaminated part on the mask from outside.
This is not to say its not safe to wear a mask or you shouldn't, its to say its much better for patient to wear one rather than millions of others, which wont do much in all honestly unless its something which covers everything and you disinfect/clean it regularly.
Also, these aren't really my arguments, these were mentioned in videos made by doctors here, I assume one of the reasons is to avoid creating situation of panic as there are are much more people here than the possible mask supply.

Something scary came out of Italy a couple of days ago:
In one of the two Italian small towns where the epidemic in Italy started (Vo' Euganeo) it was decided to blanket test all of its inhabitants, regardless as to whether they had any simptoms or not.
The town has more than 3,000 people, so the population sample size is significant.
This has profound implications for the spread of the disease. You and I could be infected right now and not know it.
That's why, until everybody can get tested, in the meantime all the guidance about not touching your face, hand hygiene and social distancing is crucial.

This is very bad sign, although China has granted them 4 million USD and some emergency ventilator systems it is not going to be nearly enough to cover for the large scale population. They are unofficially more than 230 Million people and very little to no health care system in place.

"I like the numbers being where they are". "Hopefully it won't be as bad as some people think it could be". "It's going to be just fine". "The Coronavirus is very much under control in the USA"
Countries are aligned to when they had 80-100 identified cases. The US has averaged 38% newly identified cases each day over the last 17 days. Today was 55%, and yesterday 45%. I have extrapolated the average of the last 5 days for each country for the next 7 days. (USA 38%, Italy 14%, France 20%, Spain 23%, Germany 27%).
And if this is wrong... well.... "I don't take responsibility at all"

I've been reading most of the posts but not sure if this has been asked and answered, or if anybody knows. Under full lockdown like Italy does "the market" still operate? Or do they shut it down? Don't know enough about it too really guess at an answer. I did a quick google search but it seemed to imply that they just put "limits" on as we do.
Thoughts?

Some countries have already exercised closing down of market for day or two, I think it will be different for each country and depending on how bad this gets. Lets assume this is plateau point, then I don't think they will shut it down but if it is not then expect some orders from government to do so, even if fall is controlled there is still possibility of people having to work at the exchanges and other financial outlets wont be able to exercise social distancing and that would go against the basic idea of how we are dealing with this problem.
Hope for best, I do see some shutdowns but it wont be that bad.

Probably best comparison I've seen so far of Corona and other recent world wide outbreaks. This should take point home why we need to exercise social distancing and reduce the infection and death rates, if we fail to do that we might very well end up with more than what we are imagining right now.

Good point.
But I ask... who is better suited to understand the patient's needs? A Health Care company or an automaker?
My wife (of 28yrs) has been in Health Care for 20 years. Director level. Health Care is a very nuanced field. The learning curve for GM is going to be extremely steep and they are going to make mistakes....costing time....something that is in short supply currently. Am I wrong?
Everybody loves to think Health Care is this big cash cow that somehow don't deserve their profits and all crazy mad at health care costs pointing fingers accusing them of ripping off the public....until they get sick.... then they are super grateful for this amazing industry that creates genius molecules and therapies. And it's so easy, any other field, say autoworkers, can whip out patient centered products with zero experience.
I think it is foolish when extraordinarily qualified people/companies that know the patients, aren't even brought into the discussion or asked to help.
Lets hope I'm wrong.........
I'm not saying these are not highly qualified engineers (at GM, Elon). Just that knowing the patient is what health care is all about. I love Elon. What a gift to humanity he is. Doesn't mean he has the skills or knowledge that cater best to the patient.
