I've been reading most of the posts but not sure if this has been asked and answered, or if anybody knows. Under full lockdown like Italy does "the market" still operate? Or do they shut it down? Don't know enough about it too really guess at an answer. I did a quick google search but it seemed to imply that they just put "limits" on as we do.

Thoughts?

Some countries have already exercised closing down of market for day or two, I think it will be different for each country and depending on how bad this gets. Lets assume this is plateau point, then I don't think they will shut it down but if it is not then expect some orders from government to do so, even if fall is controlled there is still possibility of people having to work at the exchanges and other financial outlets wont be able to exercise social distancing and that would go against the basic idea of how we are dealing with this problem.

Hope for best, I do see some shutdowns but it wont be that bad.

Probably best comparison I've seen so far of Corona and other recent world wide outbreaks. This should take point home why we need to exercise social distancing and reduce the infection and death rates, if we fail to do that we might very well end up with more than what we are imagining right now.

Ron, it's not such a stretch, the below is from Elon Musks twitter

"Tesla makes cars with sophisticated hvac systems. SpaceX makes spacecraft with life support systems. Ventilators are not difficult, but cannot be produced instantly. Which hospitals have these shortages you speak of right now?"

Good point.

But I ask... who is better suited to understand the patient's needs? A Health Care company or an automaker?

My wife (of 28yrs) has been in Health Care for 20 years. Director level. Health Care is a very nuanced field. The learning curve for GM is going to be extremely steep and they are going to make mistakes....costing time....something that is in short supply currently. Am I wrong?

Everybody loves to think Health Care is this big cash cow that somehow don't deserve their profits and all crazy mad at health care costs pointing fingers accusing them of ripping off the public....until they get sick.... then they are super grateful for this amazing industry that creates genius molecules and therapies. And it's so easy, any other field, say autoworkers, can whip out patient centered products with zero experience.

I think it is foolish when extraordinarily qualified people/companies that know the patients, aren't even brought into the discussion or asked to help.

Lets hope I'm wrong.........

I'm not saying these are not highly qualified engineers (at GM, Elon). Just that knowing the patient is what health care is all about. I love Elon. What a gift to humanity he is. Doesn't mean he has the skills or knowledge that cater best to the patient.
