I still use Ninjatrader 7 /w cqg liftetime license since 2012. And before that I had also started with ThinkorSwim before TDA acquired it. ToS has come a long ways very nicely as TDA kept improving it since. An example is the DOM performance and visuals both in sim and live is far better and robust than back then. However, I still like NT7 for the "granularity" visuals possible, a simpler chart focused layout compared to ToS which is stuck all the ancillary elements on the sides that come with the overall platform, and the procedural based and C# related scripting offering more control of modding custom indicators and details. And you can add C# graphical elements to an NT7 chart using C# libraries. While Thinkscript is recursive, insular limited, and very closed typed. The download section here has so many amazing and creative indicators that FatTails and others have made and shared over the years.

Interestingly, and this may be helpful to some with NT7 lifetime licenses, AMP and a few other brokerages with CQG feeds allow "grandfathering" connections with NT7 , but only if you got the lifetime license early before a certain date. One broker told me I had to have the NT7 lifetime before July, 2014 which I did, so I could get setup with NT7 with their CGQ partner connection.

I've been using tradovate, not for long though. No issues so far, i believe charting is their weakest part, missing some features.. But they are improving the platform regularly, worth to check in my opinion.

I have previously used Tradestation without any issues.

I now use Rithmic > Multicharts(for charting). I use the R Trader DOM for execution rather than chart trading. Fairly straightforward to set up & use.

Trading is a delicate matter, factors that affect the outcome of the mass. One of them is a broker, and this is serious. There is a sure way - 30 days. 30 days, trade with one, then 30 days, without changing the TS, with the other and see the result. According to the results, you can migrate to the main account for the better. I have a current extreme at Fiatotrade , holding on for the 7th month.

Thank you all for the inputs. I noticed NT has been recommended quite a bit. Since I posted the thread I gave NT another try with the newest version of NT 8 and I still just despise the charting. For instance: I Googled it and it does not seem possible to change how far you can zoom out so you are stuck with an incredibly small view so drawing/spotting price action stuff is aggravating.

Plus they've been spamming me with phonecalls and emails since I signed up which REALLY put a bad taste it my mouth. Since making the OP I have tried a bunch of demos and pretty much settled on multicharts.net. It too seems to limit how far you can zoom out but I love the rest of the program. The whole program is pretty intuitive and I've already setup my order templates which was pretty easy. For the time being I'm simply going to use it for order execution like @mattz suggested and leave the charting for ToS.

I appreciate all of the help everybody.

I agree with you on Ninjatrader. I figured out how to use it and used it for a long time. However, it always felt clunky and slow. Motivewave feels smoother and more intuitive to me. I really like it. You can get the chart version for $24/month and the trade version for $29/month.

It connects to most of the most of the major brokers and data feeds

Hey OP, can you explain more about what you did not like about TV+amp?
