People only look at the accumulative total of the number up/down ticks. They don't look at up ticks and down ticks as individual numbers. Don't you think this is a fairly important piece of information that people are foregoing? I guess one of the issues is that pretty much no-one provides such a volume display unless you pay for something like market-delta, but this should be an extremely simplistic thing to code yourself, no? even in the futures market where you have access to 'real' volume people don't seem to pay much heed to the amount of sells versus the amount of buys and just look at the total buy plus sell volume.

Volume accumulates at walls of deep liquidity, the market usually fades away from deep volume levels, it follows the path of least resistance, say the offer has 200 real contracts and the bid has 5000, what will happen is they will print 1000 into the bid realise it's deep and then decide take out the 200 on the offer. they take the path of least resistance.

Total volume displays levels of deep liquidity, size and deep liquidity is an entry indicator that shows support and resistance and how great/likely it is in numeric value.
