I would like to know the kind of configuration that would be required to trade on a tick chart and also run ThinkOrSwim to it's full potential. I would like to know if there is any benefit in taking data from DTN IQ feed as opposed to the data I'm getting from ToS by default. I trade CL, ES. And also occasionally stocks. Could anyone suggest a configuration and monitor setup. No Budget. And platform suggestions also welcome. Currently Own Amibroker. Other Than TOS and IB TWS. Also I'm looking to add quant strategies and mechanical trading systems in the near future so may this could be kept in consideration for the PC. Mostly using AFL and R and maybe Python.
Can you help answer these questions from other members on NexusFi?
For automated day trading (tick data, etc), simply a good reliable laptop with a high speed internet connection is sufficient. I currently use a Dell XPS15-9560 with i7 processor, 16GB Ram, SSD, non-touch display (i.e.: greater battery life) on a 60 Mbps connection and I'm very satisfied. I've tried all kind of other setups over the years (i.e.: more expensive ones, more powerful ones, etc) but this is the best I've add so far as again the key is fast enough reliability.
Discretionary trading would have different needs obviously but I can't comment as 100% of my trading is automated.
