All I need is live data for the CME (can even be delayed 10 mins) for simulation practice on NQ/ES/CL/GC/HE - I will be using the sim account in NinjaTrader. I can always go the historical data route using NinjaTrader but would prefer to have it as close to live as possible.
Someone mentioned they have this for $15, but all I can find through places like CQG and Rithmic it's expensive as hell, like $90? Any advice would be appreciated. I don't have enough money to open a brokerage account yet, unfortunately.
Can you help answer these questions from other members on NexusFi?
You might try ThinkOrSwim. They used to have delayed/free data. For NinjaTrader, that's more difficult. You might contact IQFEED to see if they have any special deals/offers on delayed data.
Live data is free in TD ameritrade /Thinkorswim if you have an account there already. I know of some who started an account there and lost most of their money there but kept the account open with a balance of $10 and that allowed them to get free live data to trade Sim on. That said however the futures data for Thinkorswim and their sim order matching algorithm are not very great for getting an accurate comparison to live trading, especially if you're trading very short time frames. The fills are a little to beneficial and can make it seem like "this is easy". Maybe if your long term swing trading it's not such an issue. Either way it's nice to have data and their platform for comparisons but if serious about Futures trading their "filtered" data and commission's are BIG turn offs.
I think if you have an account with Ninja you can sim trade all you want on their continuum data.
It seem that many places will offer free sim trading as long as you open account.
Hope that helps,
Mighty
PS sorry I didn't read the full post where at the end you said not able to open brokerage account yet.
You can get free data via NT. Go to ninjatrader.com and enter an email address. Then it will ask you if you want data and you say yes... You don't need to download NT if you already have it. You will first get an email from NT which you can ignore and then within about 10 minutes you'll get an email from CQGTrader. The only issue is that you need to go through this process about every 2 weeks and you need a different email address.
Thanks, I already did a 2 week with them and tried to demo at another brokerage and got an email from CQG saying that I was denied access because I had already done a trial. I can use the gmail trick, so I basically have access to unlimited email addresses!
You can add a period in between any of the characters in your email address and it will still come to the same address. So if your official gmail address is "[email protected]", you can use "[email protected]", "[email protected]", etc. and those addresses will be forwarded to your one gmail account.
