I am currently living in Montreal (same time zone as NY).
While I learn scalping US futures using order flow I was thinking about keeping my day job (starting at 9:30) and use Topstep Trader for funding (they don't allow you to trade Eurex markets during the combine). Do you think I have a chance to make any money if I trade from 4:30 AM until 9:00 AM and then go to work? I was thinking about trading currencies or US treasuries or whatever I can trade at those hours.
Is it a requirement to move to the west coast if I want to keep my day job while learning US futures?
Thanks a lot for your time!

Do you have a chance? Sure. A good chance? Probably not.

Trade higher time frames, like daily charts. Scalping is an art that takes a lot of time to learn and master. It requires thousands of hours of deliberate practice. Also, you are fighting against machine algos. Why make it so hard? Trading on a higher time frame is more relaxing and less stressful, ignores most of the market noise, does a better job of overcoming the costs of commission and slippage, and you can still keep your job.

What about Currency Futures? i.e 6E. Can they move enough from 4 AM until 9 AM?
Or Japanese Yen futures at night?

CME Yen Futures (6J) can put a whippin' on you at night if you're not watching it...very volatile at times and significant reaction to world news.

You should check the mini nikkei 225 future. Very liquid and active at night. I'm a scalper from Quebec city, contact me by PM if you want more infos or just to talk.

Routinely, my most profitable trades have been in foreign currency futures from 9 PM to 4 AM EST. The past few weeks I have been quite successful in 6A and 6C. The difference is I am swing trading based on price action, often intraday. It might not be volatile enough to have consistent successful scalp trades, but I know pretty much nothing about it.

All in all, yes you can trade in those hours. Honestly, I'm looking at charts 24/7 and seeing if patterns complete, which they do at all hours of the day. Best of luck!
