Interesting stuff. HFT was always going to be a 'race to the bottom'.

When you are one firm exploiting an inefficiency, you are king. When 100's of firms are exploiting it, then the costs of being first are going to outweigh the benefits at some point. Any inefficiency will almost disappear as people find innovative ways to jump in first. Hence all this push for sub-penny priced shares. It allows them to arb a smaller discrepancy.

Still - that's a big fall from grace for Getco...

In my opinion, we should potentially untangle this discussion.

There are 3 topics :
- HFT
- Algo trading
- Stop hunting

For me:
Stop hunting is not necessary algo trading, as you can do it manually.
Not all algo trading is HFT.
