I started trading options and was down 25K by the time I realized that I had poor grasp of the mathematical relationships of such a complicated instrument and did not want to spend the time to figure it out statistically or buy statistical options software to help. The failure of LTCM also led me to realize that even the big boys get their ass handed to them.
I started futures trading in 2013 and haven't looked back since. I have not been profitable yet and I only lost about 7K so far which I consider decent results since my losses have gotten smaller over time. I am currently working on improving my money management as I have refined my system to be profitable sim trading on NT7. I look forward to being part of the community.
Cheers

Money management is key, as you will see in the "Spoo" thread.
A fellow trader (@inletcap) were trading opposite sides of the market today, and yet we both ended up making a lot of money. Your bias is not as important as your trade management!
Good luck and I hope you post more often!
(Also, you are one of the first Minnesotan people I have seen out here besides me )
I recommend You to google more about "failure of LTCM". In general it's a myth and nobody lost money there. Those big boys were real geniuos and their investors who were smart enough not to panic not only got money back but made profit
