In Brazil VW has to pay a fine of 12 million EUR for having falsified emission numbers
on Diesel cars.
In October VW announced to call back 17000 cars of type Amarok.
IF
countries find out how easy it is to get extra tax money - then
some followers are guaranteed.
This first fine is only for the diesel scandal - one more fine for the CO2 could follow.
Brazil is for sure not interested to harm VW too much.
VW has 3 large production sites in Brazil with more than 20000 workers...
But in other countries where VW has no production - the fines might be
much higher.
VW has announced a Goodwill Package for affected owners.
"In the meantime, were providing affected 2.0L TDIŪ owners with a $500 Volkswagen Prepaid VisaŪ Loyalty Card, a $500 Volkswagen Dealership Card, and no-charge 24-hour Roadside Assistance for three years*. We sincerely hope you see this as a first step toward restoring your invaluable trust."
Barclays Plc estimated on Friday that the costs for VW will rise to 25 billion Euro in 2017.
This calculation is based on the known cheating facts up to now.
Around 800000 cars out of the VW family are affected of having wrong and too low CO2 declarations.
These are namely cars out of the 2016 series.
The good news: VW will make public on Monday the new software kit to solve the problem on the 1.6l diesel motor.
According to VW the costs of the "repair" are not high per car.
While VW makes nice gifts of 1000 dollars per old client (yes - some thousands took profit ) - the
deadline is cruel and due by tomorrow.
If the proposal is not satisfying - the legal US act could create a fine of up to 50 billion dollars and taking out
all concerned cars in USA. This means that the car owner of a affected car may loose the admission to
use it further and will not get any price on his unusable vecule....
And for sure this will bring a extensive wave of legal acts against the car seller.
So - don't expect to count damage of around 6.7 billion Euro...
not 10 billion...
but a LOT more
the deadline (from upper post) for answer by tomorrow to US will hold is not yet sure.
But for the deadline to EU in Brussels in case of CO2 affected cars in Europe
the company VW has asked to prolong the time.
EU commissioner Miguel Arias Caņete had asked CEO Matthias Müller of VW to
to show which models, how many cars etc. are affected from wrong CO2 declaration.
Caņete asked for an answer within 10 days - until tonight.
Chief of CARB Mary Nichols told that VW needs to send in demanded answers on all the
questions CARB made. Answers need to be acceptable by CARB and EPA.
If VW does not bring some good plan - then CARB will no longer prolong yearly license for those
VW (group) models from 2016.

from the clientele: those models will have zero value and can not be sold on second hand markets.
