I want to preface that I still believe that futures.io (formerly BMT) is the best trading forum on the net full stop. But i have found myself no longer coming and posting as much or finding as much intresting content. I want to word this correctly as i am in no way being patronizing. But i feel that a majority of the content at this point are just rehashes of the same thing or that what has been discussed is not applicable or intresting to me.

The only problem with this is.... there is no where else to go on the net for such a good community.

In the end I like futures.io (formerly BMT) and want it to be as appealing to me and intriguing as it once was. Like reigniting an old relationship. Has anyone else experienced this?

Agree with a lot being rehash, but the real deal for the guys that are pros is the sense of community in my opinion.

With futures.io (formerly BMT) v5.0 there are features out of the box that help groups of users talk to each other in a private section of the site, I think it's a useful thing.

Yes.

I have found that since coming back after a few month's break that the level of interest I have in current posts is much lower than it used to be.

Some of this may be that I have moved on a bit. Some may be that I see less posting by many of the people I used to read and interact with -- this may just be a matter of feeling like not part of the group any more, just social dynamics stuff. I think some of it is because when I was posting actively, I was more interested in the whole thing -- participating increases interest (plus ego, because I liked my own posts .) The fact is that change is always going to come, and I can't expect to feel the same, about anything.

One thing I have noticed is that programming topics seem deader (which matter to me, anyway.) That may be because programming interest has shifted somewhat to NT 8, and that coders who are not in the beta (I'm not, and am happy not to be) probably don't want to spend much time on NT 7 challenges any more.

There's probably a natural ebb and flow to all this. I expect to get back into it again, probably more gradually given my own changed priorities (business, life, all that).

I agree about the community. I also agree with @Big Mike about the sense of community being a high value. I'm playing this by ear and expecting a renewal of interest as I take part more. It will probably be somewhat different, but I hope still interesting.

Bob.

Depends on what one wants out of them, which depends in large part on one's attitude towards paying it forward. Many traders laugh at the idea. Some don't. Those who are in their sixties and seventies and eighties tend to be in the latter group.

Otherwise, yes, there's only so much to say. There are only so many directions price can take and so many preconditions for those movements. Everything else is management. Once one understands that and resolves whatever issues are blocking him from reaching his goals, it's pretty much just a matter of pushing buttons. Not unlike bumping into an old high school friend and running out of things to say in fifteen minutes.

I still visit every day even though I dont participate much. Actually I would like to but I cannot participate at this time because of those acronyms we know so very well - NDA, NCNS etc. But I definitely think I will be back full time to pay it forward when I am my on my own. I grew up here and there is a lot I have to give back.

The things I miss most these days is being able to share, discuss, throw ideas off of others. I setup my own forum like site, just for myself, using phpBB and posted on it for 2 days but its not the same and of course it didnt work .

Hoping to be back soon full-time. Until then, I am lurking and helping howmuchever I can.

DBPheonix - is this the same DBPheonix that wrote that wonderful ebook a ways back?

Is that still available - I always enjoyed it.

Why yes I am (and your check is in the mail).

But, no, the "book" isn't, not really. I decided not to mess with it anymore since in many ways I've moved on, and the people who try so hard to trade price without a lot of tag-alongs deserve to be able to evaluate what I'm doing now, not what I did twenty years ago (even though much of it still applies). The result is uploaded here and here, the latter being an artifact from the original. It's my way of paying at least something forward. Not to sound noble. It's just what I want to do now.

As a wise old owl said,

Lick it once, lick it twice, and there's it's gone.

Then, time to start chewing that sweet chocolate inside.

This resonates with me a lot. I lurk and check out the posts that i feel are compelling. But if there is something I want to discuss or an idea i find personally interesting, I can not share it due to NDAs and liability issues. Which really cuts down on what I can contribute, it removes a lot of that back and forth. So its like futures.io (formerly BMT) turned into trading radio, you can turn it on and scan for interesting things but its 1 way communication.

If I was not restricted in what I could talk about I could just come up with threads or topics that I found interesting myself. And that would be that, self generate the content I am looking for or at least see if other people are interested in that type of thing. But because I am bound, it makes it a lot less fun.

Although I do like what I am doing now, and cant say that I would give it up just to discuss on futures.io (formerly BMT). But I do feel disconnected from a community I enjoy.
