Welcome to

Welcome, Guest!

This forum was established to help traders (especially futures traders) by openly sharing indicators, strategies, methods, trading journals and discussing the psychology of trading.

We are fundamentally different than most other trading forums:
  • We work extremely hard to keep things positive on our forums.
  • We do not tolerate rude behavior, trolling, or vendor advertising in posts.
  • We firmly believe in openness and encourage sharing. The holy grail is within you, it is not something tangible you can download.
  • We expect our members to participate and become a part of the community. Help yourself by helping others.

You'll need to register in order to view the content of the threads and start contributing to our community. It's free and simple, and we will never resell your private information.

Naturally Occurring Expressions of Order

Naturally Occurring Expressions of Order

I wanted to discuss some ideas that have come across the forum and to which I think more consideration might be profitable. For some, these ideas will perhaps be old and boring. Perhaps for the new, it may be a useful form of exploration.

We all seem to agree that on one level the market is a Chaos–and it Morphs, that is, its quality of order and appearance shift in direct relation to how it is perceived and engaged by those who comprise it. For those who disagree, of course you are welcome to express. Some say it has no order–yet others say it can only go up, down, or sideways. So this Chaos has major conditions of limitations in that it must remain within these three expressions in order to be. Chaos implies no limitations, nothing is restrained in some sense--yet the Market has limits.

In nature we have naturally occurring expressions of order, Fibonacci being one. Another is Hierarchy. I am sitting in a chair, and under that is the floor and under that is the earth and under that is heat, magma, all kinds of conditions. It is like the skin of the earth is a condensation of Chaos into some basic order–dirt, rock, etc.. Out of the Chaos of the BigBang, we have whirling universes of Chaos turning into order, coolings and orbits, up-heveals and settlings. I am not sure one can even have Chaos without energy flow. Energy flow organizes by its own nature if given enough time. We might want to consider that Chaos and Order are the same thing. For instance--you can’t have a sky without a horizon. Sky and Deep Space may not be the same upon investigation. Energy and Matter are forms of one another. We have time And space. Price and Volume. Fear and Greed.

I think we could say that Markets have hierarchies. The CME makes regulations or sets of conditions that must be followed or you can’t play. In relation to that, life forms are opportunistic. If a life form can extract energy in some form, from conditions that are somehow orderly, then that form will usually continue in that direction. People who have advantages to extract energy from some level of hierarchy will do so. Brokers for instance--in charging fees, the government in forcing you to pay taxes, large investments of companies to “teach trading”etc.. All of these are forms of manifestation based in trying to extract energy, stored energy, (money), from their environments.

Questions are constantly arising around whether or not the Market is rigged, manipulated. Others say no, its just too big. Yet Hierarchy keeps appearing as structure, and within structure. I don’t think there is too much doubt about this. And life forms are dependent upon gaining and storing energy within conditions arising–otherwise you would not be trading–and those who can manipulate the market will do so if there is a way, even for a short period of time. If that were not true there would be no enforcement bodies–they would be unnecessary.

There is the reoccurring appearance of the myth/reality of the Holy Grail. In esoteric terms I think this would boil down to the comprehension of how Chaos solidifies into order and when. This makes clearly apparent how and when to enter into relations that will allow one to extract energy from the environment. This is one of the fundamental goals of life. I think that one of the skill sets of a master-trader is that they have grasped something of this process–to the point that they can extract what they need from the Market. In a sense, this is why indicators are so prized and sought after–they seem to condense order out of Chaos, for a time and then it all shifts and the systems blows up.

But it is only the effectiveness of the system that has shifted–not the inherent quality of Chaos to be ordered by energy flows. I think BigMike, by his tremendous access to market data in the form of all those who contribute to his site–gets to see larger aspects of Chaos collapsing into Order and he then tries to communicate that to his contributors. This would take years to get the “Feel” of--when the shift to Order is happening and when the shift to Chaos is happening. Aspects are being assimilated by unconscious forces in the Psyche as well as conscious forces of the ego and “thinking -mind” Everyone is looking for this process of Order to start forming up in the Chaos side of the Market. Indicators sort Chaos. And then the Shift happens and Chaos can no longer be sorted like that. But still, the natural appearance of hierarchies keep showing up and evolving.

I wonder, how many traders are looking at the market with this understanding in mind...letting aspects of themselves assimilate an accurate living understanding--that which allows energy to be extracted? How to work with this instead of trying to find a fixed indicator–where once you think you have it, you quit being open to the organizing flow of energy within Chaos? What techniques might bring forth this assimilating capacity--as opposed to just finding the indicator? At what point might the hunger for the indicator begin to relax into a more mature view? I think this takes a lot of practice and work. Its what you do with your life, on all levels.
