This would be a ideal up move.

Trades at ask, uptick,
trades at ask, uptick,
ask/bid rotate down no trades,
trades at ask, uptick,
ask/bid rotate down no trades,
trades at ask, uptick,
trades at bid no downtick,
ask/bid rotate up no trades,
trades at bid, downtick,
Trades at ask jump up three tick...

I call this up or down ticking depending on the direction of the movement, but I am wondering if the over all process has a name? As I figure this is the foundation, the process that everything else is build on top when dealing with the markets. So I would like to refer this process in though and conversation by it correct nomenclature.

In this particular example, you've got an upmove, a retracement, and a continuation, the result being an uptrend.

If your ticks were directionless, it would most likely be price discovery. Or everybody went home at the same time and no one remembered to shut down the computers.

You have gone up a level in the your definition, i am asking about the level below that the level in which ticks are processed. All of what i laid out happens within a single bar.

Sorry, I misunderstood.

I don't know of any particular name for the process. Traders negotiate, they agree on a price, the price is "printed", and one goes from there. Traders used to call it "tape reading". Many still do. Bars, of course, would not be pertinent. Just ticks.

As for the process "in which" the transactions or ticks are presented, you may be asking about exchanges and clearing houses, but probably not.

Agreed elements of tape reading for sure, but that tends to suggest "Time and Sales" and or "The Dom" which I currently use neither.

I will look and see if the Dom guys have a term for this process.
