I live in the Mountain Time Zone, and I trade the ES. I have to get up at 0630 to prepare myself for the 0730 open. During some parts of the year, it is still dark outside when the market opens at 0730. My lease is up in 2 weeks. I am considering moving East to the Central Time Zone. If I move to the Central Time Zone, I won't have to get up til 0730, and more importantly, the sun will be up when I awake. It really effects me trying to get up to day trade when it is dark outside. Is this the stupidest, lamest thing you have ever heard? Wanting to move to a different time zone just so the sun will already be up when I awake? I tend to make bad decisions. I am asking for your opinion. I have 3 cats, but not much personal belongings. So it is doable.

You might to try full spectrum lighting which will trick your body into thinking it's real sunlight. Moving across the country is a big hassle even if you don't have a lot of belongings.

Its your call really. In your situation I would because I don't enjoy waking up early. Also when you just wake up you will be groggy you need to hydrate get some breakfast and have time to mentally and strategically prepare, if you dont do these things it probably has a negative effect on your trading. View it as effort vs reward, you might also enjoy living somewhere different.

Understanding yourself is just as important as understanding markets.

It depends on how you want to live your whole life, not just when you want to get up to trade, though that is still a big part of the equation. What I'm saying is, it's not the only reason I would move.

It is absolutely not stupid, and in fact there are many physiological aspects that are associated with lack of sun light.
Some of them are depression, mood swings, and could even affect your heart.
You may be prone to some of these things if you feel it is affecting you.

Having said that, I think you should consider where you are moving depending of your urban tendencies and the variety you are used to living with.

Matt

Personally I don't think it's worth it at all unless you've been trading the instrument for years and years and that's your cash cow. I wake up around 5 - 5:30 am before It's light and I just turn on a bright lamp (this is after years of being a night owl). Within an hour or two it gets light outside. I'm not very convinced the forex market is much different in the london session as the NY session. I bet If i showed up the charts without timestamps you wouldn't be able to tell the difference.

The longer I've traded the more I think the trading has less to do with my mental state than the actual viability of my system and the current market condition.

On the other hand, If there are other reasons that support your decision to move then do it.

I mean.... Reeeeeally !!

Yesterday, I was at a Memorial Day cookout and there was a city boy (I-Phone, BMW, etc) who fancied himself quite a foodie. The host had cooked an intact lamb in honor of his presence at the cookout. He was (or course) destined to take charge of carving this lamb. When the host brought the cooked lamb out, he laid it on a table about 6 feet from the city-boy. This idiot then suggested that we all (himself included) pick-up the table containing the lamb and move it over where he could carve it. As soon as the words left his mouth, a farm boy in attendance laughed and said.... "Us country folks would just come sit at the table where the lamb already was". Needless to say, everyone roared in laughter and the city-boy was effectively humiliated to the point he could obviously not even hold the knife steady.

The morale of this story is that any person can set their own clock/watch to any time they choose --- instead of like .............. moving! If you want to be a trader and otherwise be just a normal person ---- quit trading and go sell insurance.

Peace.
Paige
