1. I will probably lose some of the quality behind my thanks, but is there really a quality owed to scarcity of thanks on here?
2. It'll increase people's awareness towards my presence and who I am.
3. People will feel like I've read and understand where they're coming from, and not feel like I've just passively skimmed over what they've written in their post.
Overall I suppose thanking every post will be good. The pros seem to outweigh the cons. I'm not sure if Big Mike thinks this is abuse, but I don't think he'd have a problem with it considering @alejo has pretty much done the same thing.
When I write a really thoughtful post and I don't get a thank I'll take Mahatma Gandhi's advice: "Be the change that you wish to see in the world.”

I also just thought of something, one of the cons of thanking every post might be that I don't agree with something someone has said even though I've read what they've written. This might give mixed signals, but It still doesn't mean I don't have to thank the majority of posts that I feel positive or neutral towards.
This con probably constitutes a very small percentage of posts I read. Most posts I don't agree with I'll still thank due to the effort the poster put into writing it. I think the only time I won't thank is if the poster is exhibiting a negative behavior.
So I ask you readers What are the reasons you don't thank a post you've spent the time reading?

What you are proposing is akin to schools who give out "Participation ribbons" to all kids who take part in a program regardless of their success or passing from grade to grade despite a failing effort.
They do this to not hurt the kid's self-esteem. I have a problem with such a program in schools since a child expects a medal or ribbon or praise for everything they do and have trouble later in life when in real life they don't get such treatment as an adult.... they NEVER learn how to deal with failure or a less than satisfactory effort in life.
This does no favour to a child's upbringing and actually does harm.
I am sure this is not your intent as we are not dealing with children here but it certainly reminded me of that sentiment.
It's not really a good comparison considering it's just me doing this, not all of futures.io (formerly BMT). Maybe if this thread was started by Big Mike it would apply as this is his forum, and he could be considered the school. I'm merely just the outlier in this equation as I'm only a single vote out of everyone else who reads people's threads. This comparison would be dead on if everyone behaved in this manner, but I doubt more people will take this odd approach as most believe in negative reinforcement like the Military. Most believe that rewarding bad behavior, or anything that may appear to be bad behavior, will produce bad results. I believe that there may be a different, and more satisfying approach, where rewarding any good behavior and only not reward very bad behavior will increase my own status, but have a residual effect of increasing people's happiness that at least someone out there acknowledges their effort if no one else thanks them.
I'd rather increase someone's self esteem and give them a thanks when they post something and get no thanks, than not thank them in hopes they'll eventually post something somewhere down the line that deserves a thanks when I'm not there. Regardless, I want to be remembered and associated with the esteem boost because I want to let them know that not all of life is harsh and unrewarding. I want them to know there is something worth posting and there is someone reading their posts when no one seems to be.
