Is there an easy way to check when an instrument is open/closed?
I'm wondering if there is a simple website where I can type in the name of an instrument and it will show me a countdown until it's open/closed, if it's open outcry or after hours trading, etc.
This was especially confusing during the holiday season. I know most people don't trade during this time anyways, but I do and it would be nice to have an instant and clear idea of when the markets are working.
Can you help answer these questions from other members on NexusFi?
This is what I'm looking for in terms of format, but right now futures (CL, ES, GC, YM, NQ) are trading electronically and it isn't reflected there. If I'm not mistaken this website only shows a countdown for open outcry? I want to see if a market is open, after hours, or not trading at all, and a countdown until it changes from open/after hours/closed.
Given each and every instrument has open and closed hours that will only vary due to holidays and scheduled early shutdowns, I would think a combination of having the formal operating hours as listed/summarized by a site like this - AMP - Trading Hours - along with a quick check of the exchange's planned holidays and hour changes, would be a good starting point, as is the case with the CME's page here: https://www.cmegroup.com/tools-information/holiday-calendar/
That's what I was looking at before I made this thread. If you go to the CME Group's page and look at the holiday information it doesn't tell you much. If you click on the PDF on the side it gives you this:
What I gathered from that website is that the markets would be closed until January 2nd.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that the markets were closed from December 31st 4:15 PM until January 4:15 PM.
I figured it would just be easier if there was some sort of countdown or easy to read website, which is why I made this thread.
