Hey there.
I got a 55" 4k monitor to replace my 3 30" ones and LOVE IT!!! Once I got the settings fixed it works out fantastic. I initially got an expensive SONY one then bought a cheap HISENSE from Costco. Kept the Hisense one after side by side comparisons. Was no noticable difference. I also use a MSI notebook that will power TWO 55" 4k monitors via HDMI ports or Thunderbolt. It is the absolute coolest running computer I have ever seen. Puts out ZERO heat. It sits quietly closed under my desk. The MSI was well worth the $2400.

Which model MSI notebook, and what graphics outputs are needed to run more than one 4k screen?

To run multiple 4k screens you need a graphics card capable of running 4 monitor's at 2160x1920's

With regards to the 4k monitors, my initial research implies that you would need a very high end card just to support a single monitor. GPU's currently treat a 3840x2160 monitor as if it were two 2160x1920's, It appears performance on anything below something like a GTX Titan or GTX 780 is sub-standard if you intend to use the monitor for anything graphic intensive. So it looks like you need a $1000 GPU for EACH monitor, hence I'm a long way away from using Dual 3840x2160 resolution monitors. Be interested if anybody else's research implies otherwise.

Looks like an interesting potential solution: Amazon.com: Plugable USB 3.0 to DisplayPort 4K UHD (Ultra-High-Definition) Video Graphics Adapter for Multiple Monitors up to 3840x2160 (DisplayLink DL-5500 Chipset - Supports Windows 8.1, 8, 7): Computers & Accessories

Also trading/charting use would not be considered graphics intensive, 30hz should be more than adequate.

Great! I just found an LG 4K Ultra HD TV that supports Max Res 4096 x 2160 through an HDMI 3 input. The NVIDIA GTX760 Video Card works great with LG TVs. The Screen Res and Quality are much better than any computer monitor. Now I have no annoying bezels that get in the way. Watching movies on my computer now with the LG TV is mind-blowing.

And to everyone who replied, thanks a million.

@vegasjolla, @Trey

this is excellent news,

please post a picture of the setup or how many ninja screens or charts you're able to gang load on the 4K

I have a GTX 750, I am guessing that it too would be capable through the display port feature also, yes?

I'm considering 2 of these for my new trading desk, I understand the technical requirements involved to drive 4k.

any input is appreciated!

I reckon this will be the future of trading desks or anything that requires a large screen space. By the time my existing multi monitor setup is obsolete this should be a proven option.

Anyone who is using a single HD screen, we would all like to see what it looks like loaded up with information!

Cheers,

XS

I think it should be but I doubt it will be. If you did a survey of how many people here have lots and lots of small monitors verses a few large monitors I think the results would be overwhelming weighted towards lots of small monitors.

Clarifying Point: I'm talking my book. I use 4x 30' monitors.

I would like to pull up more chart if I am on a longer time period chart without having to tab across. I find that I can easily lose perspective by tabbing across.

Do the 4 K monitors give you more chart or just the same chart on a bigger screen?

And would this be available on all charting platforms with regards to the extra pixel width? I am currently on Think or Swim.

I experimented with a cheap 39" seiki 4k TV as monitor with nvidia nvs 450 graphics card, which is not rated for native 4k. It works great once setup correctly, no flicker at all at 30hz. The The trick is the manufactures cable. Here's a pic 1080P vs 4k. Definitely good enough for trading. I'd like to test it with 2 monitors but the seiki 39" 4k is discountinued. i'll check ebay and craigslist for used one. Anyone want to buy 1080P monitors?
