I understand that Excel allows drawing candlestick charts and throwing other curves (indicators) on it.

So, you can create the chart that you want for once.

Then, you make them adapt to the arrival of new rows with one of these techniques:

@Nicolas11 thnx will play and report back. Never did any charts or calculations before as they were always done by platform or indicator.
But with kind of own platform which is currently excel based everything to do and understand seems to have fallen on my lap

Many thnx...

Cheers

Hi @Nicolas11 that is correct once a day since it is EOD data. But there is a plan for integrating with live data...which will be continuously written.

Ideally would like to avoid manual intervention. For now it is ok...but long term solution trying to make it scalable.

Cheers

I see. You should try the solution proposed in my last post: create a chart and make it automatically adapt to new rows.

1) Candlestick chart is a default chart style under Excel

2) Adding an indicator is not straightforward. Some information on that page:
Stock Charts in Excel 2007 - Peltier Tech Blog

3) Then adaptation to incoming rows can be done with the links proposed above.

I have just tried 1) and 2), and obtained:

Not so easy. Not so flexible. But there does not seem to have many solutions if you want to stick with Excel.

Thnx @Nicolas11. Yes have looked at the page & I will talk to Jon next week and explore.

Thnx for all your comments. Excel will be the stuff for now as all my heatmaps & EOD makes it in there. Graphs too will need to be there.

A cut off to R sometime this year is in the works.

I gather data each day and add it to my spreadsheets.

From this the spreadsheets automatically draw graphs and charts and so on. For myself the point of entering the data in a spreadsheet is to perform calculations on the data so that I can see new relationships within the data -before I chart it.

The spreadsheet program automatically creates charts. I don't try to make the same charts a charting program makes (such as ninja trader) as NT already does that. If the question is how to make the chart include the new days' data what I do is have a dashed line row as the last row with the chart including that. Then I insert a row for the new day's data and all the charts reflect the new data.

I hope it helps.

@paps

Hi papps

How did it work for you?
PS when you make a chart you highlight the data and choose the insert tab at the top and select a chart.

(you better get Nick to show you how this video is to show how to struggle :-)
