Hey everyone,

I am Penghua Sun from University of Cologne, Germany. Now I am launching a survey about stock exchange for my doctoral dissertation, and I need participants to be experienced investors/traders in the stock market. The whole survey will only take you around 15 minutes, and the winner will receive $100 Amazon Coupon when I finish the data collection.

About the survey: I GUARANTEE absolute ANONYMITY and will NOT be sharing any personal information with anyone. The data will be 100% confidential, and could not be traced back to individual users. According to the pre-testers, the survey is a lot of fun. So a million thanks for your participation in advance, and hope you will enjoy it!

Click the following link to find the survey:

Survey

Good luck!

P.S. Please feel free to post any questions or suggestions related to the survey here, but it would be nice if you could try to avoid hostile or insulting words.

P.P.S. The winner will be listed on our department homepage, and the information there includes no results of the survey yet, but it could help you to know us better:

Please note that this is a non-profit exercise in the post. The $100 is just our reward to the winner of the game.

Best regards,

The $100 in 15 minutes makes this look like spam/junk.

When you private messaged me asking if you could post this, I said yes. But I think you should try again, the way you have set this up makes it look like it is just a spam post and not legit.

You should include your full credentials and contact info in the post, and remove the $100 prize, to make it look more serious.

Mike

Am I the only one who finds this quite contradicting? On the one hand, you guarantee 'absolute anonymity', but on the other hand you're going to list the full name of the winner on your homepage so that search engines can easily index it? Why not contact that person by email?

Second, why do we need to know your department better? Isn't it the other way around when doing research (i.e. you want to learn a little bit more about us).

Third, you did not include the motivation for this research (what are you researching?) and what will happen with the data afterwards (I assume it will be destroyed after data analysis?).

Fourth, as an observation, you posted this in June on another message board ( here). I find more than three months a long time for data collection.

Fifth, as an observation, in August you posted this elsewhere ( here). Your communication in that thread, with sad crying smilies :'( and almost begging for help, does not sound like the communication style of a PhD candidate. It does sound like the conversation style of someone who uses a profile picture of a pretty girl to incline guys to help (Yes, we can be that suspicious; sorry).

And lastly, according to your profile on the university website, you're an external PhD candidate, which likely means you have a job for a commercial company. What does that mean for the privacy - will the data be shared with your employer?

All in all, I miss the Deutsche gründlichkeit.

Dear GFIs1, I am sorry but what do you mean by "you will hang in still tomorrow"? I am not a native English speaker, so I might be slow with jokes or humors... However, if you have any doubts, or suggestions, please just tell me, and I am more than happy to get feedbacks!!!

Last but not the least, thank you for putting your energy in my survey!!

Hi @cindycindy

My post was only to mention (from my side and experience) that the 15 minutes are highly impossible
to finish the survey.
The first part was quite straightforward and did not bother in a way.
But the second part with the game is complicating things...
Maybe some less instruments (like 5 than 10) could improve things heavily.
Just my 2 cents...
If you don't get it you can pm me in german - I will reply in german too.

You are right Mike. The reason why I posted it that way was because I want to catch people's attention, so that they would click in in the first place. However, I didn't think about the spam thing. Thank you for your kindly reminder, and I will remove it now.

About credentials, do you mean something like the invitation letter from my professor for my PhD? Actually you can find me on the second link I left, which is the homepage of our department

About contact, I left my contact in the last page of the survey, but now I will add it here as well.

All in all, thank you for your suggestions Mike! They are very helpful!

I just tried to adjust the title, but I found it is not possible. Should I post a new one, Mike?

Thank you very much, GFIs1! Now I get it! You mean that the second part is the main reason for dragging down the speed? That should be the case, because the data from the game (second part) will be the main part we want to test. Your suggestion is very nice about fewer instruments, however, this is in the middle of the study, and if we change things, the previous data we collected will be wasted. I will seriously consider it in my next study design!

15 minutes is the average processing time of our text people, a small group, so there can be deviation. Now I check the whole survey status, it indeed takes longer than 15 minutes. I should update that as well.

Btw, I am a beginner in German learning. I was in Germany last November. If you want, I can PM you about the purpose of the study.

I know how difficult it must be to get responses for your study so I filled it in. I didn't think the $100 cash prize looked tacky. But if Mike absolutely wants you to take down the cash prize, I was clearing out my apartment this weekend and found an old box with about 30 authentic Jane Street shirts, complete with the old logo and some OCaml doodles on the back. I can donate a shirt as the prize. Not that there's any worth in it; JS is probably the top market making firm in NYC if there's any swag value. Think they'll be fine with me donating an old shirt.
