Richard, no I really dont have any mathematical proof, however, here is an article that may shed some light on some of your questions
Statistics in Financial Astrology

The article does not provide any statistics, and in fact appears to be trying to convince the reader that most statistics about financial astrology are misleading or wrong.

The one study linked from that article, which it is attempting to discredit, used a sample size of 7. So... I at least agree with them that it's worthless...

Richard, have you ever tried any software or services?

Short answer is yes. I have spoken multiple times in this very thread about my history with astrology... no need to repeat it all again. In addition, I have attended the moneytide room on fridays a few times when it's free. Witness the power of the "chaos clamshell"

I think astro stuff is cool, I just think as with anything else, it is a setup.

But until there's a believable link between planetary position and market action, that's like saying my cats visiting the litterbox is a setup just like anything else. Given a choice, for the love of Pete, choose a setup that's clearly associated with the market you are trading.

I know I've mentioned it multiple times already, but the truth of the matter is, every particle in the universe is related to, and profoundly affects every other particle. Thanks to a property of dynamical systems called "mixing," though, it is as if they were completely independent, from a statistical perspective. I'm eating blueberries right now. If I chew the next berry five times instead of six, it could kill my mother, or start a war next year. But the state space of the system is so complex ("chaotic") that you can't see it coming, nor can you trace it back to my chewing habits after the fact. Like two colors of paint, once you mix them you can't un-mix them.

... and that's why astrology is interesting, fun, and lucrative. . . . and false.

I don't have experience trading with financial astrology, but i have been following this site Merriman Market Analyst - Home for about 4 years now by reading the newsletter on the front page. I do this to get his point of view on events that can have some influence on "the big picture" of any market. After all these years i am ready to give him some credits. I find his writing professionnal and he read the market with a lot of accuracy. I did bought his "2008 Forecasting book" that tries to predict big reversal in several markets for the coming year, again it was very informative.
So , for sure it is not my style of trading, but i really can not say that this is crap, it can be cool and informative for somebody who is ready and willing to study deeper the link between the markets and the sky.

well for those interested in Wave59 which tries to deal statistically with astronomy here is a quick screen shot of some of the tools --- i have the "old" platform and not their newer 5k system so cant vouch for it --- but i will say it is one of the most interesting research platforms i have ever used --- that being said does it make money? --- well in the right hands like anything i am sure it does --- i have yet to figure it out -- but it has been challenging and interesting to research --- there are just so many combo's and cycles of planets it could take 10 lifetimes to calculate and figure out --- change the degree of one planet in a combo of 3 planets and you get a completely different set of support and resistance or cycles --- so it could take ages to find something...

either way you can back-test everything and come up with your own statistics --- the picture just shows a couple of their tools --- starting with the lower blue cycle indicator is a "HARMONIC index" of all the planets and when their gravity or energy is aligned at max with newyork etc... the number 5/9 are counts of cycles 5 being half a cycle and 9 being when a full cycle ends --- then of course they got some of the normal stuff like exhaustion dots --- and then i just threw a simple calculation of moon/earth aspecting with the SUN and it gives a mathematical number --- which you get support and resistance angles... just endless combos ---

so it is a labyrinth you can easily get lost in or have fun in or both --- but making money --- ayyaahhh that is what all those guys keep to themselves lol --- but either way fun to tinker with --- if anyone figures out how to use these type tools i would love to hear about it ---

Astrology in trading, can I use astrological forecasts in trade? I wondered about that professionals in astrology, which are easy to describe to me my past and my character. But the Financial Markets honestly answered that forecast accuracy will be very low in the days and weeks. Results close to reality will be intervals of several years ...
To verify the accuracy of the forecast for 3 - 5 years in practice, without confidence in winning in today's market, scares me.
But to those who can see the movement of the market suits any instrument by which it can borrow money.
Good luck in trading with the help of astrology

Which of these is an appropriate tool for the discretionary trader?

Crystal Balls

Crystal Ball Stands

Can they be used for trend-following strategies as well, or would you use them rather for predicting sharp and unexpected reversals?

Those are good, but I have found tea leaves to be more accurate.

Good idea, just holding a cup of fine Darjeeling, the leave pattern reminds me something that I have seen on the volume ladder, it is clearly bullish for Monday.

I''ve dabbled in weather futures, considered paying this guy to make it rain but didn't think that would be legal.

I have to confess that I use planetary positioning in my trading all the time. For example, when the sun is up, I look for my setups in the market. When it's down, I don't.

Then pay attention to the markets you trade. If the market is on the other side of the globe, your setups may not work, unless you you are convinced that the earth is flat.
