Unless you have hard wood floors... then the wheels spell large maintenance bills!

That's why God invented those plastic mats you put down under your wheelie chair. To protect the hardwood floor ;-)

This is where I spend much of my life

Big doors so I can get lots of fresh air during summer, soothing sounding fountain a few feet away and a big garden that I can kick a ball about in when I'm in a trade. Most of the time I prefer just blasting some music out tho ;-) my old HP pavilion has somehow managed to cope quite well with 2 23" screens, I see no reason to change it for now, though I'll probably need another screen at some point.

Here's what my trading desk looks like. It's simple yet effective.

  • 3 monitor set-up (all same size), with speakers of course as I listen to music / news all day
  • Written journal beside me to write down thoughts, emotions, and observations. I also do my weekly and daily prep on here before moving it to FIO
  • 3 different color pens. Black, red, and blue. I go a bit crazy if I have more than one color or if I don't have all 3 available.
  • Sticky notes for other notes that I don't want to forget about
  • A water bottle to ensure I stay hydrated

My monitors on a trading day are looking at the following:
  1. Has 30-60 Min profiles, 24 hr with volume, and my execution area which is 5 min candles on RTH with volume and sup / res areas
  2. Has bloomberg tv on at all time, 2 week profile, and 1 hr RTH longer term view
  3. Switches from my excel spreadsheet journal, my IB TWS, FIO, Snagit, News reports, etc. Sometimes I cover all 3 of my screens though if I'm starting to get too many emotions while in a trade

Cluttered space leads to a cluttered mind, so I make sure to keep my trading area tidy at all times

Yesterday's excellence is today's standard and tomorrow's mediocrity

So I'm not showing anyone my desk as they will know things...

“If a cluttered desk is a sign of a cluttered mind, of what, then, is an empty desk a sign?” —Albert Einstein

Both Albert Einstein and writer Roald Dahl famously worked at very messy desks, and it never seemed to do them any harm.

This made me actually laugh out loud. While I might not use that quote for trading, I sure as hell will use it in my marriage when it favors me.

My girlfriend being from here (Antiochia Provence) is utterly OCD about cleaning and 'clutter' like most "Paisa Region" people. She has a cleaner, who actually employs a cleaner herself. You could do open heart surgery in anyone's living room around here.

I have no choice but to keep a separate apartment to work in as anything can disappear. I was going to the airport last week, my passport was by the door where I could see it.. panic.. She put it back in the drawer without a thought in her head leaving for work.

“The maxim, "Nothing prevails but perfection," may be spelled shorter, PARALYSIS.” Winston S. Churchill.

I'm making a new one, live oak slab, with real turquoise inlays to fill the voids. Going to place a curved monitor or two on top

I'm trying to convince my wife to let me have metal legs made - bear paw on one side, bull hoof on the other, drill bit in the middle front - a three legged desk. She's not quite ready to let me though. LOL

Clutter is a sign of genius.
