Sure, I see what the people in the article are saying. I was more focussed on the general concept that ratfink proposed (where "walking=good, standing=bad" which I'm not sure I subscribe to), than the ergonomic concerns of the wrist, which I had not considered but I'm sure are worthy of consideration.
The study proposes something that makes sense anyway: the healthiest option is to mix periods of movement with periods of rest.
A great read for many reasons, but one central point is that we think of our brain as a top down organ sending signals to the body, but new research is showing it to be much more of a two way street, and with only limited amounts of the conversation available to our conscious minds.
The state of our physicality can affect our thoughts. He goes on to show how experiments he did comparing hormone levels in floor traders to their P&L show a definite effect of the former on the latter.
The take home message for this thread is if you are going to be staring at screens for a long time, be sure to move and stretch from time to time, be it from a standing desk or other ways to keep the blood flowing.
Here is my standing desk. I build it to my requirements, was pretty cheap in total about $100 for pipes, wood and lack/paint. I got myself a cashier chair so I alternate between standing and sitting and walking around while in a trade ...
Nothing beats the office chair with wheels, so you can wheelie about your trading desk, after you have developed a bad back and knees from all that standing!
