With quad cores and mega amount or RAM and big screens in quanity..............

A modern 24" LED monitor like the Dell U2412M uses approximately 25 watts. With usage of 16 hours a day at a cost of 12 cents per kWh, the monitor will cost approximately $1.52 a month to operate.
A modern i7 quad core system, with a high end gaming card (way overkill for trading) will use approximately 400 watts, but idle will be far, far less (under 100w). With full usage of 24 hours a day at a cost of 12 cents per kWh, the system will cost approximately $35.00 a month to operate at full load, and under $10/mo at normal [mostly idle] load.
In my house, I have six 24" LED monitors, three systems that run 24/7 (probably using 200w at most, no insane video cards), plus my AV equipment in two separate rooms are running a non-green 1400W UPS's which means they are very costly to operate. I am home nearly 24/7 and I keep odd hours, so it means my air conditioning runs a great deal. I keep the house between 70 and 72. Our average temperature has been over 90 degrees, with the last 20 days or so being over 100 degrees.
My most recent electric bill was $210.57. My kWh rate is a little under 12 cents. When I view the website, my energy usage is way outside the norm. I looked at my moms electric bill for the same period, it was barely $100 but she keeps her air at 76-78 and has only a notebook.
If you do the math, the $100 difference between our two bills is probably roughly 50% air conditioning, and 50% electronic device usage.
You should check the energy consumption of your monitors. I purposely purchased LED monitors to reduce energy consumption, not because of cost, but because of heat production (trying to reduce heat in my office).
I know most people on the forum are from the US. I'm from UK and bought my electrically powered sit-stand desk from computing plus. The only drawback is that if you lean on the front edge it wobbles a little bit, apart from that it's great. I use it in the sit position about 80% of the time. Leinenkugel Summer Shandy. Pretty good for a large brewery Shandy but you can make your own. Try mixing a wheat beer or light lager beer with a lemonade or citrus flavored soda 3 parts beer to one part lemonade is a good place to start.
Never entered a trade with my feet, but I was so happy to be done wrestling the wires and cables and various hardware that I thought a ice cold beer might be a just reward.
