At futures io, our focus is on quality education. No hype, gimmicks, or secret sauce. The truth is: trading is hard. • We work extremely hard to keep things positive in our community.
  • We do not tolerate rude behavior, trolling, or vendors advertising in posts.
  • We firmly believe in and encourage sharing. The holy grail is within you, we can help you find it.
  • We expect our members to participate and become a part of the community. Help yourself by helping others.

Trading-related inspirational material

Hi Everybody,

I thought I'd start a thread for people to post material - text, images, video, whatever - that they find inspirational and motivating when they're trading.

I do trading because I love it, but even so I still need a dose of motivation before the trading session to make sure I face the markets with focus, commitment and confidence. I also need it to get my head back in shape after things start to go wrong.

Since there's already the Trading-related One Liners thread we should post those there - but there is lots of scope for poems, speeches, excerpts from novels, images of paintings, sculptures, buildings, links to songs, videos, film clips etc etc - inspirational stuff, motivational, stirring stuff.

I wanted to put together a collection myself but I am having a hard time doing it! I will try to find something worthy every week. By collaborating, I figured we will all benefit and probably discover stuff we would never have found or thought of on our own.

I'm going to start this off with a quote that's already on the one-liners thread but shouldn't be because it's nowhere near just one line. It should be on this thread, and it's a great quote so here it is again:

Quoting
Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It is a very mean and nasty place and I don't care how tough you are, it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain't about how hard you hit; it's about how hard you can get hit, and keep moving forward. How much you can take, and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done. Now, if you know what you're worth, then go out and get what you're worth. But you gotta be willing to take the hits, and not pointing fingers saying you ain't where you want to be because of him, or her, or anybody. Cowards do that and that ain't you. You're better than that!

- Rocky Balboa (quoted from Rocky movie)

The Way of Warrior Commitment

The headmaster of the Ito Shoden Muto Ryu (the Sword of No-Sword) Yamaoka Tesshu, spoke of the ‘four poisons' of kendo: doubt, fear, surprise, and confusion. According to the master swordsman, these four deep-rooted emotional or intellectual problems represented the keridoka’s greatest nemeses to victory in battle as well as to powerful, enlightened living.

The only way to neutralize these poisons and to develop true warriorship in these modern post-feudal times (circa 1885) was to confront a great number of opponents in a row with a grave and absolute resolution to survive, no matter how bad things got during such an extended series of matches! Tesshu Kenshi indicated that it was his belief and experience that only through the rigors of self—elected and self-administered shugyo (the way of austere physical discipline) could the modern warrior develop a true appreciation for warrior-commitment and a strong platform of emotional control.

Very few had ever even passed his examination for intermediate certification, much less for advanced certification, and the reason for this was simple. Tesshu’s “basic” examination was imposed after a course of practice of 1,000 consecutive days. The test consisted of 200 consecutive contests wíth other students of the Ito Shoden Muto Ryu — all held within one day!

The second or intermediate examination — called seigan — consisted of 600 matches over a three-day period. The third and highest—level examination — which fewer than 50 students were said to have ever passed — was a seven—day ordeal with 1,400 matches.

The equivalent to a trade going wrong. First up it looks good, then stuff starts going wrong.

Can't figure out how to embed this. Can I only embed youtube vids on futures.io (formerly BMT)?

1) Today is Victory over yourself of Yesterday; Tomorrow is your Victory over Lesser Men.

2) Your Thoughts become Reality

3) To me there are 3 things everyone should do every day. Number 1 is Laugh. Number 2 is Think- spend some time in Thought. Number 3, you should have your Emotions move you to Tears. If you Laugh, Think, and Cry, that's a heck of a day- Jimmy V
