I'm from Singapore, day trading the CL and GC on NT7. Recently moved from MBTrading to AMPFutures with CQG.

Still a part time trader, hopefully go full time at the end of my employment contract.

Anyone from Singapore? Wanna compare our trade execution and data latency.

how do i check?

Can't ping mbtrading.com as thats not their server.Contacted them to get the direct server address they said it is not available.

Anyway, just switched to AMPfutures with CQG, i've got to say, it performs extremely fast.

If you want to check the speed of the connection to your broker:

(1) Install a connection tool, which retrieves the DNS or IP-address of the broker server, when you connect.

(2) Then enter that IP-address into another tool which use TraceRoute or similar.


I am located in Berlin. The ping directly to Chicago is 113 ms. However the server of my broker is located in Switzerland and the ping to that server is 23 ms. The distance between Switzerland and Chicago being 7,000 ms, the minimum required ping time to transmit te signal is about 75 ms. So it is impossible for me to get a faster reponse time than 100 ms from Chicago.

I know that my broker has a fast direct line from the Swiss server to Chicago. In the past this has proven to be more reliable than a direct connection to the US server of the broker.

In Singapore, there are physical limits. A ping is a round trip from Singapore to Chicago and back. The distance between the two cities is 15,000 km. The roundtrip therefore makes up for 30,000 km. If you imagine a direct line - no deviations - to transport the signal with the speed of light - 300,000 km/s - , the signal will take 100 ms.

Landbound transmission via optical fibers: Depending on the refractive index of the material, the real transmission speed is about 60% - 70% of the light speed, so your signal will take around 140 - 190 ms.

Transmission via a satellite: You need a satellite in a geostationary orbit of 36,000 km. The total distance the signal has to travel will now be around 160,000 km and the physical minimum required for a ping becomes 530 msec.

So don't use a satellite connection. This is even more true if you are located in Chicago. For a ping - round trip - connecting to the server next to your home the signal needs to travel 144,000 km, which would take 480 ms.

I trade from Singapore as well. I got a 248ms ping with pingtest.net.

Doesn't really matter to me as I trade positions.

any software recommendation for the connection tools?

I'm using Google's public DNS btw
