I was wondering if anyone could tell me which news announcements typically influence the s&p. I see the listing for news announcements and sometimes nothing happens, other times the market goes crazy for a while. I have simply been avoiding trades near announcements, but some more definitive idea of what is likely to be signifigant would help.
Thanks,
Dale

Thanks Gio, I'm not interested in trading the news, I have a trading system which works very well. But I have been avoiding trading at news events because of the volatility , however some news events don't cause a ripple.

The Forex Live one is free
It also has an "Importance" (Imp.) column where it shows the level of volatility the data release is likely to bring to the market.
