.... it pisses me off that I get 20%+ lopped off my check so that some other lazy **** can have 5 children and go to the grocery store on my dime.

Wait a minute... you only pay 20% Tax... $#%@ freeloader...

99% of the people that complain to me about their job or their pay or their relationship or whatever, I usually ask them......"so what are you doing about it?" The response I get is usually crickets.

You're whining about the way you see life ... sooo I gotta ask,"what are you doing about it".....Crickets....

When I was younger, I mentored at an inner city high school. There was some of everything you mention. However, I have seen students who otherwise would have ended up living out your worst nightmare ... getting accepted into an Ivy League school ... graduating with honors ... and going on to be a contributing member of society ... due entirely to the fact that someone from a higher socioeconomic background invested time and effort to help that student break the cycle of failure.

We weren't able to reach all of them , or even a majority of them. But the ones we did reach returned later to help other students and just by showing up proved that change could happen.

Ever consider investing a part of your self to help make society a better place ..... Crickets ...

Damn, I am a libertarian!!!

A lot of people are actually libertarian and don't realize it. It's the only political philosophy that can salvage what's left of our nation.

We're too divided and too divisive. Solutions at the Federal level leave everyone pissed off and frustrated.

The state's rights concept is the only solution going forward that will give individuals an operable choice as to the type of social and economic policies they embrace. Most of the things debated at the Federal level were never meant to be handled there. Most of them are state governance issues.

Again, I'm not an objectivist, and I'm not opposed to helping others. I'm opposed to arbitrarily being forced to help others, many of whom are unworthy and downright unappreciative of help and assistance.

I'd much rather be able to decide who, what, when, where and how my property and my time are donated to others. And I support the same for other people.

Every "system" or political ideology has it's drawbacks. I'm not a flip flopper. I don't trash the Constitution, even when it doesn't suit me.

It really makes me irate to see idiots protesting military funerals. I think it's classless, tasteless and totally inappropriate. But the Constitution gives them that right (with limitations....such as 1000 feet distance, etc.)

I find it ironic when a liberal defends an "artist" who makes a mockery of Christ, but when a whacko pastor from FL wants to burn a Quran, they all cry foul.

Conservatives and Liberals are both oppressive. They both feel everyone else should think and act as they do. That won't work anymore....neither side is going to lay down and be a rug for the other any longer.

The only solution going forward is to live your life and let others live theirs the way they see fit.

I think that it's worth pointing out that spending your own time mentoring is an example of private charity, which is voluntary, virtuous behavior which is good for both the giver and receiver, and can be very effective. This is the kind of thing we all need to do and support, especially libertarians.

Taking money from someone's paycheck by force for government run social programs, on the other hand, is neither charitable nor virtuous, and is damaging to both the receiver and the 'giver', and to society. This kind of forced 'charity' can supplant real charity and make the world a poorer, less charitable, less virtuous place. It's not really charity if it's imposed by force.. it's something else.

If you all haven't read it, then reading the Biography Amazon.com: Titan: The Life of John D. Rockefeller, Sr. eBook: Ron Chernow: Kindle Store

An amazing read and look into the America of yesteryear where little government intervention created the most powerful and wealthy individual EVER!

I came into this book hating this man. Everything I had learned about him was 'evil monopolist' etc...

I left this book understanding more about human psychology and how people change and what makes the 'bucket list' etc..

Few people know or realize how much this man has influenced our way of life in America! However, few people would feel comfortable with someone of his power (along w/ the other tycoons of their day) living today.

Humble Protestant background, strong work ethic, great vision (oil), tyrannical greed, family man, and then altruism beyond anyone's imagination....

Wow... So who was right? Which John D. Rockefeller is the right one?

I think as he grew older, he realized the err in his ways of exceptional greed etc.. Most of them do...

I think my point is that most people don't realize the ups and downs life has in store when you don't have governments....

There is a fella named Bruce Krasting, who has done some incredible work, that really put the issue of social security in a better perspective for me.

The long and short of it is that every president since FDR has dipped into the SS fund and it is short something like 2.5 trillion dollars when you account for interest (not including inflation). The fund was switched to the revenue section of the fed. balance sheet to pretty it up in the '60's.

Take into account that baby boomers are getting closer to the last few years of life that account for 80% of all their medical bills and the fund already being in the red as is - you have a holy shit type dilemma.

So when "Obamacare" came around, IMO, Obama is thinking "well instead of just renegging on ppl - lets just spread it out evenly". I'm strongly against this, not only b/c of gov. waste, but b/c of the loss of freedom.

But tell people what is going on it doesn't stop the anger of paying into something thats not there. Most are like "I don't care - I paid into it and getting what I paid for".

I personally think that our government has have stole our private pension long time ago. For one thing, if the money is truly ours, why do we have to wait until a certain age before we can take the money out or face a heavy penalty?

It's a liberal fallacy to assume that just because I oppose the government stealing my money and spending it for me, that I'm not willing to give of and on my own accord.

I volunteer as a coach, I give to charity....

just think of how much MORE of that I could do if the government wasn't robbing me at every turn to give my money to a bunch of people I would rather NOT.

I wouldn't have to work as much for the same amount of income (which would allow me to volunteer more) and I could actually direct my hard earned money to the charities that I find worthy.

I fully support tax breaks for charitable giving and there's literally THOUSANDS of charities available for people to support.

Again, the libertarian point of view isn't objectivist. I'm not saying "to hell with EVERYONE else." what I'm saying is that the vast majority of people the government gives time and money toward are a waste.

I should be able to choose and evaluate the children or victims or efforts that are worthy.

I'm going to a charity event for wounded warriors this next weekend. Imagine how much more money I could give if I didn't have to endure the government's thievery.

I'm going to a charity event for wounded warriors this next weekend. Imagine how much more money I could give if I didn't have to endure the government's thievery.

Imagine how many 'wounded warriors' we would have if our government wasn't so happy to invade and destroy. 0, zilch, zip, nadda, none....

What % of our GDP is military or related?

Kids join the military because they:

want to experience the world
get out of a bad homelife
free college
steady job
.....

and way down far on the list is.....

"I want to save or help other people"

They will convince themselves that they do, but all-n-all, if you take away those other items (perks...), then very few are true 'warriors' in the sense and just citizens who have chosen a different path.

So, to me, the Government SHOULD be the ENTITY (which is really US but in a forced means) providing for the people who have fractured emotional and physical states. If they don't, real simple. MILITARY on strike....
