Hello, relatively new to futures trading, started about a year ago mainly using volume profile and supply/demand zones. I mainly trade options but I am interested in improving my futures trading. Lots of good info on this site!

Hi,

I am european, Started trading in 2016, its been a long journey.
Read tons of books ( at least some 20, retail trading books ) and tried alot of things in the beginning. Looking back I am almost ashamed ! Started in stocks, then went into forex... ( which I will forever remember my broker's expression when I told I wanted to trade Euro... and he asked EUR USD or EUR GBP, and I said "just euro" ) :P :P and then finally went into Indexes ( DAX 30 for a couple of years ).

Had the great luck of finding someone on forexfactory which I started following ( have no issues in naming who, but will not so to not look like advertising ) which gave me a more professional look at how to trade. I don't think I would be around here if it was not for that.

Currently I have a very specific trading strategy, I trade futures ES / YM and NQ. ( mostly ES and NQ ), I day trade, trades usually last a few minutes.

I use SierraCharts with the help of studies that I coded that assist on my trading and manage it.

Been trading since 2014. I have trained with Top Dog Trading, Crosshairs Trading, J. Baker Analytics, Jason Stapleton, and Online Trading Academy. I have invested money with all of them and felt they each had good training techniques. I only trade Futures. I would like to learn to trade options next.

Hello,

Big Mike emailed that it has been over 860 and some odd days since I joined this site and have yet to introduce myself...

I have been trading the markets since 2000 or so originally in stocks, then forex, then I opened my first futures account with TradeStation in 2009. I have dabbled in options along the way but have mostly focused on daytrading futures since then. I have traded part-time, full-time, and am back to part-time (for now).

In recent years I primarily day-trade the S&P500 mini contract, the ES, but I spent about 5 years or more successfully trading currency futures with a focus on CME's New Zealand Dollar futures contract (6N). Today I clear my trades via AMP Futures, use CQG for data and trade via the Jigsaw DOM while waffling between different charting packages.

My trading approach is just to review what happened and look to see if the market is leaving any clues on where it wants to go next, then I just focus on what happening right now. Day-trading is all about planning, reading, reacting, and minding risk along the way. I really enjoy this game.

Hi guys, I'm not necessarily new to the market but new to trading. Had a financial analyst who invested clients money at a bank (can't remember which) who taught me a lot of the basics. Went out on my own (twice) and blew up, took the lessons I've learned from there (do more reading) and have been doing reasonably well at putting together an actual strategy that seems to work. My drugs of choice are futures ( GC, ES, LE, ZS, ZW) and SPY options or 0 DTE SPX if I'm feeling like giving away A lot of money really quick.

Currently my goals are to create a statistically viable strategy. I can get some damn good entries, but what I really need to focus on is trade continuation and tops (For example I bought 10 contracts of /ZW Monday I believe between 565 and 566 and a couple more around 571 on Tuesday?) but got trapped as it returned to 567, and sold out the lot 573. Between the 10 contracts that missed 600 handles. In the beginning of a trade it's often very difficult to determine the potential success of a trade and cutting a good trade short and quickly cutting a loser can often look very similar. One of my goals is to find that difference!

Use a combination of items to get entry/sell targets, lately it's been technical analysis, but I'd like to get a more statistical approach using indicators.

Signed up here a while ago but have mostly been reading and seen a lot of good material, and that's what I joined for! Unfortunately though it's really hard to go through everything

Hi Big Mike and Friends,

I've been in stock market for ten years since 2010. Sometimes good, sometimes bad as a Intuitive trader.
At the first year, I know I need some technical indicator or strategies to support me, since I'm a programmer.
But I couldn't develop it successfully.
Without mention, 10 years. bunch of money losing in the market, just to learn building system by hand is a huge work.

Until 2020, I touch TradeStation and MultiCharts, learning EasyLanguage.
With these tool, now I can build some strategies better than before.
My goal is invest all over the world.
It's hard to do this.
So I would like to listen precious opinions here, and if I know something, I would like to share here.

Regards.

Hey guys,

New to all of this. Tried a bit in the past but was never in a good spot to devote much effort. Now, things have changed.

Leaning towards a ninja trader lifetime license as well as a jigsaw. Any info on how well these pair would be appreciated. Also, any opinions on the jigsaw education programs?

Taking a close look at the ninja trader broker services they offer.

Anyways going to jump into the micro emini s&p 500 to start, figure real money is better than the fake paper stuff. Have some $$ set aside that I don't care too terribly much about if I were to blow up my account.

Going to be lurking around a while trying to absorb some wisdom. If anyone feels like helping point me in a good direction it would be appreciated.

Thanks!

-Ryan

I am not a vendor and I am not a successful trader, yet -- just one beggar telling another what I have learned after taking about 20 courses and going through several thousand dollars in the school of hard knocks. This is stuff I wish I had known 2 years ago and many thousand $$ ago.

I am about 2 years and 200 miles down the the road from you. I encourage you to rethink your philosophy about trading the "fake paper stuff".

You will 1st want to obtain an Elite membership here at futures.io and visit the "Elite Discounts" section. The savings there will more than compensate you for your Elite membership.

2nd, I encourage you to research and play with various platforms before deciding on one or two or more. It is hard to beat the Jigsaw software combined with Journalytix but there is a learning curve associated with it. Take a look at YouTube for Jigsaw and No BS Daytrading videos. I found No BS Daytrading to be a good primer for understanding Jigsaw and John Grady has a different style of trading than Jigsaw teaches, so you can see which one you prefer. I use Multicharts.NET with Jigsaw and Rithmic data, but there are some issues with data access for both platforms that seem to be worked out a bit better between Ninja Trader & Jigsaw. But Ninja Trader has some restrictions about data providers that you should research before taking the plunge. You can paper trade on Tradingview for practice for no or low cost, depending on how you want to go about it. Another alternative that is fairly low cost but somewhat complex is Sierra Charts. Look for TradePro Academy videos on YouTube for info on setting up and using Sierra Charts, including a DOM similar to Jigsaw.

3rd, you need to absorb info and develop a trading plan. This forum is great for that and you can look up Brian McAboy with Inside Out Trading if you want hired help to develop a sound trading plan.

4th, you will want to develop a consistent edge -- a method of trading that will consistently make money. Take a look on this form and look for Price Action Trading System videos on YouTube in addition to No BS and Jigsaw training.

Finally, this is where I am: You need to overcome your demons and develop good trading discipline. Encountering the markets is somewhat like encountering a rattlesnake -- it isn't so much what they do to you, rather it is more what you do to yourself in dealing with them.

You should only trade with real money after you can successfully execute your trading plan and make more money than you lose in a month. Don't kid yourself -- you can blow out a 5K trading account in one day with micros. And you will find that even when you have positive trading results, the broker often makes more money than you do when you trade micros.

God speed your learning and trading!

Hi Big Mike,

Any way we chat about order flow? I am in the process of creating a trading model based on order flow and the market state. I am going to use the indicators below intra day- with a market sentiment meter that uses end of day data.

1. Volume Ask-Bid ratio profile ("order flow")
2. Diagonal Bid/Ask Volume ratio profile: ("order flow")
3. Normalized volume profile ("footprint")
4. Ask-Bid Spread in percent of the price
4. Volatility (High-Low Ranges), in percent of the price
5. Ask price change, in percent
6. Exponential moving average- 21 period-

Hope we can chat soon.

Are you really in Ecuador?

Thanks,
Mike
