Hi everyone,

A complete newbie here from Spain but living in Canada... my name is Hugo and I am starting with trading, really interested since I was young but never got into it until now. I have been paper trading ES on NinjaTrader for almost 4 weeks now and really love it. I guess on the trial environment everything is different as you are not risking your money but I am trying to take it as 'real' as I can; profitable in many positions but of course there is always one or two very painful losses that ruin it all , trying to learn how to cope with impulsiveness and know more about discipline in trading.
These days, reading the book "Trading in the Zone" and learning a lot with it.

Found this forum looking for Ninja Trader reviews as I am considering opening a live account with them.
Looking forward to learning a lot from this community and hopefully someday I can contribute here to help others as well!

Cheers
Hugo

Hello. A quick intro... I have been trading and investing in Equities for a long time, and I have been doing very well. A year ago, by accident really, I decided I wanted to learn about certain aspects of foreign exchange and decided to learn Forex. As I started my journey I found out about Futures and my interest switched. I started looking into online courses, but I couldn't find any programs I liked and ended up joining Online Trading Academy in my city (Denver) . This was a bit pricey, but worth it, at least for me. They are very focus on risk management and as I am sure you all know, in Futures it's a pretty good thing : ) I have been trading Futures for about 8 month. The first month was a disaster, I made one costly mistake, which was mostly due to not fully understanding the trading platform I was using (think or swim): I had an open position I though I had closed and without a stop loss. When I found out I was out a few thousands... I did not loose my shirt, or blow my account, fortunately my stock trades offset my losses that week, but it was a very expensive lesson never the less. Fast forward to today and I am starting to be profitable, not by much, but I am starting to get a feel for what works and doesn't works for me... I have also recently switch to NinjaTrader, which has been so much better for my trading, it helps me see things more clearly, I like the uncluttered "Zen" feel, think or swim as well as many other platforms I have tested are very cluttered and busy. I actually stumbled on this forum while researching reviews for NinjaTrader...
I mostly trade the ES, I also like currencies (futures) more and more as they tend to move slowly(er) and seem to be directional for a longer time.

That's it. Cheers.

Welcome.
I apologize that I cannot share your happy experience with Online Trading Academy. Often times, I have found that those who spent 10000 or less seem to have done well. We, on the other hand, gave them our 40000 savings and it has not worked out well at all. We especially got poked for the lifetime ProPicks. However, I am glad you were able to get something positive out of it.

HI Hugo,

I am also from Spain, Barcelona to be more precise. Let me give you some advice about trading and platforms:

I believe OrderFlow gives a clear understanding of the markets, how and why these move.
I bought Ninjatrader’s lifetime license Aug/2019 and looking back at it now I find it was a BIG mistake.
Choosing the right platform is no easy thing and should take you at least a week of looking and looking around on the internet. There are thousands of platforms available. Find the one that is more complete and suits your trading style.

As I said, I am very keen about Volume analysis and Ordeflow tools. For my trading style a good Footprint chart, DOM (Depth of market), Tape, Market Depth Map, Volume profile tools is of PARAMOUNT IMPORTANCE.

And Ninjatrader is not providing me with competitive and up to date tools.
They just scratch the surface whereas other platforms like ATAS (orderflowtrading.net), Jigsaw, Bookmap, etc are leading the game. And even “new” platforms like OptimusFlow are very competitive.

If you are interested in Orderflow look into these platforms before purchasing Ninjatrader. Don’t make my mistake.
And if you haven’t heard anything about Orderflow trading, definitely look into it. There’s lots and lots of information out there, especially in Youtube. I’d recommend ArmagaFX and DeltaValue YouTube channels, they’re both volume analysis oriented and in Spanish.

Hope you appreciate my comments and opinions.

Yooo whats ups everyone seems like I have a similar story, Ive been trading with ThinkorSwim but recently made the jump to ninjatrader and haven't looked back. Im working on an automated trading strategy if anyone could link me to some good research areas that would be awesome
Much appreciated, As always Trade Happy

Welcome to FIO! I always recommend Building Winning Algorithmic Trading Systems, by Kevin Davey (a/k/a @kevinkdog around here). His methodology is solid and has improved our automated (algo) strategy development immensely. I keep a trading journal on my algo adventures: Attack of the Robots- An Algo Journal. He does most of his work in TradeStation EasyLanguage, but provides NT code as well. The methodology is more important than the code itself.

Welcome Hugo,
I am trading on NinjaTrader as well and love it so far, but I don't like their brokerage. I use Interactive Brokers. The reason I don't like them is they don't offer Equities nor do they give you any interest on your unused cash. I use equities as collateral for my margin, I have 2/3rd Equities investment and 1/3 to 1/4 in cash so that my money is always working. Another book I have found useful is "Technical Analysis of the financial markets" By John J. Murphy. It sounds like a very boring book but it is actually very well written and quite entertaining. Cheers.

Thank you so much for all the info JGS4! I appreciate the help. I will definitely look into all those Youtube channels first to learn about volume analysis and order flow before making any decisions.
I am just too new to trading as per having a clear idea of what works for me yet. I guess I need more practice and get more knowledgeable through watching some traders who know their stuff, books, and paper trade more...

happy trading y saludos!
Hugo

thanks for the input FabriceM! It looks like a good plan what you are doing with equities and cash. Unfortunately for Canada I think when it comes to NinjaTrader there is only one broker which support that platform and it is GFF brokers (Ironbeam) as far as I know.

Thanks for the book note, I will also look into that one!
