I'm completely new to stock-investing, trading and this forum have been recommended to me as a great group of people to learn from. I'm over 41 years and have a bit of background in Computer Science so I know a bit of programming, have a computer at home, can read and have access to academical publications. I watched a few YouTube videos and feel curies but confused at the same time as the information presented are mostly for entertainment purposes. Fair enough, but I need some credible source of information and to be honest don't know really where to start.

Welcome, Tinker Bell.

I am only 10 months or so ahead of you in futures but I have spent a lot of time and money on courses and I have a couple of pointers, if you are interested.

The basics of the market are relatively timeless but trading strategies are in constant flux. So, you will want to learn the basics from solid instructors but be wary of strategies from almost everybody out there. If you are a reader, I recommend Corey Rosenbloom's book, "The Complete Trading Course: Price Patterns, Strategies, Setups, and Execution Tactics" (Wiley Trading Book 469) Be aware it was written 9 years ago and Corey has moved on in terms of strategies he now uses but the basics help you get started in your learning.

In terms of video instruction, take a look at TRADEPRO Academy on YouTube and consider joining them for at least a month or two. Some training courses want for you to pay for a whole course in a lump sum. TPA has courses in day trading, swing trading, futures, options, and trading psychology and unless they have changed, you can access all of their course and have daily live market sessions for a monthly fee. And I liked George's style of teaching.

I am not still with TPA, but if I had it to do over again, I would probably start there, go through all their courses, then look around.

One other tip: A good place to start with order flow is John Grady, No BS Daytrading. His basic course and book are low cost and I thought his teaching was very helpful. John has done some seminars with Futures.io. The videos are posted on this site.

I wish you well.

Oh gosh, your reply makes me so happy. I thought that nobody would even notice my post. The info you provided is very valuable and I thank you but right now I intend to spend some time learning how I can successfully create long term investment into blue-chip companies and to get high dividends from it. I may not be clear enough earlier apology.

I don't know where to start and my english isn't great due to years living in isolation while trying to dig out of this mess. More than a decade ago I graduated from a fine university in Canada with a degree in computer science and math. I got a decent paid job working in banking industry doing IT works. During those years of working I got exposed to investing and trading and began to hate my job due to boredomness of staring at screens day in and day out. I decided to go ahead to learn TA stuff and then, I opened a trading account to trade while at work. I was amazed how easily it was to make money from trading. So, I decided to quit my job and focus on trading full-time.

Fastforward to present, I blew my accounts few times trading stocks, bonds, ETFs and options. I only began to trade profitably in recent years after I learned all kind of mistakes while developing and improving strategies and the only instrument I trade right now is ES and NQ.

I'm looking forward to contribute and sharing on here, but like many other successful traders said you've to do your own homework in order to discover your true strengths and weaknesses because you yourself is a trading edge in this trading business if you take it seriously with passion.

Hi everyone,

My name is Ron. Like so many, I dream to make it in the trading world. I may have an opportunity now. I was laid off my job at the end of July this year and just don't want to go back to what I was doing if I don't have to. Had enough of corporate management and at my age (64), it's not easy to get employers interested in me anymore.

I love Al Brooks and have gone through his course. It's brilliant, but takes so log to absorb it all. I also love Mack with Price Action Trading Systems and his work is also great. It's simpler and easier to learn, but harder to execute. Takes a lot of practice. I would love to follow just Al or just Mack to be more efficient with my efforts, but can't decide between the two.

I trade the ES emini and am profitable a lot of days, with micro contracts.....so I make enough money to buy lunch and maybe dinner. Sometimes if I go to regular contracts, I blow it. It's so mental! I switch between the 2000 tick chart and 5 minute charts. Again, would love to decide between the two.

I hope to be profitable soon, even if just by a little bit. I know the odds are against newbies being successful quickly. I guess that's why I want to pick a method or format and work my tail off to master it. I've studied a lot about trading over the years, but nothing compares to getting screen time, which is impossible to obtain in most corporate jobs.

Anyway, I'm all ears for advice and glad to join this excellent group!

Ron

I am a cash commodity trader and from a family farm. So I grew up around the futures markets and live and breathe them everyday. Have had a futures account for years and always used seasonals, but have recently become much more interested and active in trading seasonal patterns and spreads in commodity futures. I come here to learn more and be able to communicate with others that have similar interests and an understanding of the markets. Have had thoughts of eventually being able to be a “full time” trader, along with other interests and hobbies. Excited to learn more and see where it can take me!

Hi Mike,
I want to thank you for creating such a good forum. I also want to apologize for not posting earlier, but you know the saying "Better late than never".
So today made a point to not only log into the forum but also try my best to contribute. High level background of me is I have been trader for more than 27 years as you are fully aware of life of a trader mine is no different than that.
I have gone through quite a few boom and bust cycles in trading and now I am at a point in life where this could be my last run as a trader before I call it a day.
Being a trader for such a long time I am carrying lot of bad traits that I have struggled through out life to overcome, I am hoping that by connecting with this forum and with some help from our fellow traders I will gather the strength and motivation to overcome my weaknesses and improve as a trader.
I am looking forward to interact with you and other traders within this forum and hoping to also be of any help.

Thanks,
RP
