Hello Mike and all speculants!
I'm scalper. Exchange - RTS. Future index RTS. Watch the various markets (forex, futures ), about 8 years, when I worked in the moscow bank of the call-center. Now I try to scalp futures on the RTS index on the basis of correlation with world indexes (DAX, ES). 100-300 trades /day, because it very volatile instrument.

Hi Mike,

It nice to be part of a community that shares and shows appreciation when appropriate

I have been reading some of your old posts on NinjaTrader and your migration to MultiCharts.

Here is my situation and I hope to get some advice on it.

Right now I am using NT7 sparingly (I use TT's X-trader for my scalping) as I do have some strategies coded but I am thinking of migrating to MultiCharts for a few reasons :

1. I might be moving out of an arcade environment. Hence no more TT.
2. I am thinking of mentoring young traders here but good trading platforms here are expensive. I am thinking of private labelling MultiCharts as a cheaper alternative. In the past I have tried to used NT6.5 but like many others I had my problems with it. Now on NT7, it has improved.
3. If you had 10 traders in an prop enviroment with direct connectivity(co-location) to the exchange, which will you go with and do you think it is possible to compete with the likes of RTS Realtime System in the Algo realm?

I would like to know your thoughts.

Happy trading

Hello everybody,

I found this site by accident, but it looks interesting.
I have traded ES, EC, JY futures both intraday and swing.
Currently trading ES intraday.
After several failed attempts I am reasonably successful. Its hard work, very time consuming but rewarding.
Hope to be able to share my ideas with others involved with this discipline

Hello gang! I am new here. I am new to Ninja trader and learning about trading strategies and how to code them. So far I have not had much luck in writing profitable trading systems but I am still learning. Can anybody point me to some good examples that actually work well? The examples I have seen are simple and lose $ most of the time. Thanks for your help and have a great day!
Jeff

I'm not a big forum user so I probably wont be very active on here but I like what I have seen of this site.
I started trading quite a few years ago but have been very hit & miss, never had a trading plan, etc , etc.
If you want to learn how not to do things, I'm your man!
I hope to change that now & am trying to concentrate on being a discretionary price action trader...not an easy thing to do!
Whether I'm active on the forum or not, thanks to all those who take the time to assist others & hopefully I can do something useful in my trading that I can post about!

Dear Members,

It is nice to become part of this community. Dozens of Google searches about algo trading and platforms lead to very interesting discussions on Big Mike.

I spend a lot of time developing models and technical trading environments. My background is in development (C#) and database administration (SQL Server) and I have been trading equities and futures for more than 6 years.
Just like a lot of people, I chose to switch to a fully automated / backtestable trading style a few years ago. My background helps a lot.
I also keep up to date with several markets and economies for a more fundamental view on how things are evolving and where we are headed.

I have tested several platforms and have used MultiCharts extensively. Although it's a fantastic platform, it's not an ideal choice since we are stuck with EasyLanguage which is quite a poor language compared to C#.
I have tried RightEdge and SmartQuant in the past but RE is not advanced enough, not fully open source and understaffed and SmartQuant has a poor support (non existant would be even fair).
There's also NinjaTrader which I will give a try to but it's very disappointing to see how poorly the user experience has been thought out (compared to RightEdge) and it's still extremely closed.
An ideal platform is probably Deltix: few people know it because they don't run ads on CNBC... and also because it costs $80k - $100k per year.

Anyway, I'm focusing on live execution now. I'm thinking about generating signals from my strategies in MultiCharts and developing a custom OMS in C# to execute the signals with a broker that is not supported by MultiCharts (through DLL calls).
Just contacted the support and they told me C# wouldn't be a solution because functions cannot be exported...
It was already a 'quick and dirty' way to achieve my goal but if I have to add another layer to this architecture, it becomes hell.
In this context, would you guys advise me to study Ninja further? That's almost a non-question but I'm trying to see the culprits/traps before chosing a direction.

Your experience could help.

Thanks!

hi traders, hi big mike and hi everyone else who is reading this forum!
--
my name is olliver. i am from austria (europe not australia).
i am a passionate trader who is currently working on making a dream come true in being a selfemployed independent trader. and as far i am, i gotta tell you guys, this is actually a long hard way out of hell but i know for fact that is doable and it - once achieved - pays off.
i am currently a student in linz (upperaustria) and working on my masterthesis and besides that i am working parttime for a concertpromoter - lucky i am the job offers me - so far - a lot of leissure time that i mostly invest in my trading education.
--
the reason why i have choosen to become a trader is something that i hardly can explain. since i was a kid i was always fascinated by the funny colored numbers in the tv although i never had a clue what they acutally represented. when turing older i found the idea of buying and selling a piece of paper and making a good living out of it quiet interesting even though i dont neacerarily have to show up in a particulary office and sit there 9 - 5. i guess the most important fact for me is independency and self-determination. with trading i can literally leave town and get settled down in a new city on a different continent within a day and this alone means everything to me. but still there is a long way to go.
--
when i started university i opend my first account to trade stocks. trading stocks was fun but turned out to be actually a hard time since i was a complete noob and lehman went bankrupt and the financial crisis hit the globe. my stocks got pushed down by the bear and i was locked into an economic prison. i didnt want to draw red numbers so i stayed in the stocks for like a good year till price got back to break even and then i got out. i then stayed away for some time and then moved on to trading cfd with realtime access. i was successfull for some time, but then made some big failures and i literally went through all the simple mistakes that you actually be aware of but for some stupid reason you dont do like having good SL and moneymanagement. when the earthquake hit japan i sponsored the market with a good handfull of money. after reflecting on my trading career i relised that my style of trading had more to do with psychotrading based on "mother"given intuiton than actually fundamental trading structure and technical analysis. i simply came to relise that i needed a plan and for the most part structure. so i locked myself in and did some education and studying and i also partizipated at some seminars etc. and well here i am. i am now trading as often as i can futures based on the structure that i have learned so far. lucky as i am when i got live into the market with my new knowledge the market changed dramatically (it was around june, july) because european crisis hit the spot (what a surprise!?) and people and the markets were acting crazy. so i told myself i stay out of it till volatility gets a little less and everything calms down a little. i also had - i guess like everyone else - work on my system and reajust it a little to the huge volatility and trending days.
i am currently just trading SIM because i dont feel comfortable with realmoney as i got to improve a couple of details.
--
the reason why i am now joining big mikes forum is because i spend a lot of time here reading and studying and i think its time to give a little back and i also want to be part of a great traders movement and get to know people all over the world.
i am planning to do a journal aswell and i would like to invite you to leave some comments and give advices.
ok this is it - basically...

have fun & trade well!

Hello, all!

I've been trading stocks and some forex on and off for about 5 years now. Don't claim to be an expert. I'm a big fan of Tom O'Brien's and Phil Grande's radio shows. I listen to them on my iphone to and from work 5 days a week. (60 miles a day round trip commute in Detroit traffic, yuk!). I hope I can learn something here and offer some input from my experiences when possible.

JL
