I've been an MC user for a few years now (after being a Tradestation user for 15+ years) , this board was mentioned (in the MC forum), as "the best" for serious traders, so after being an occasional visitor, I decided to go the "elite" membership route and have enjoyed the "elite" posts, especially the auto trading posts.. It has always been a goal of mine to develop a "bot"..I'm hoping I can learn that little extra here, that I need , to make it happen. My background is electronics, not programming but I can do most of what I need using EL..I also have some neural net experience with Neuroshell2.
I love the idea of a "bot contest.." and hope to enter someday soon..it's a great way to share ideas and coding tricks..
My favorites to trade are ES, EUR and Options. I've been a discretionary trader for 20+ years...
I look forward to a successful journey towards becoming a bot trader, thanks to Big Mike's room..

Hi all,

I have been trading for 13 years. Full time for 10 years.

I started out trading milk futures in 1998 because I was a dairyman. Blew up once. But then made enough money to say why am I milking 60 cows when I can make much more money with better working hours trading milk futures. Sold the cows and farm in 2001.

Traded milk futures until 2005. Charts started to look like a heartbeat monitor. Hard to make money on that the way I traded.

Read James Cordier's book and have been mainly selling options on futures since. I have sold just about all US options. Energies, grains, softs, metals and a few livestock.

I sell options usually <90 days from expiration far out of the money. For example, Sep & Oct gold puts 1350 or less.

Over the years I have traded at quite a few places. Currently at optionsXpress and Open E Cry. It's hard to find a place that understands options on futures trading.

I hope I can find some options on futures traders here to compare notes.

Ron

Like Mike said "I blew up my account a couple times and lost enough money to make most grown men weep. After I regrouped I started trading with common sense and with control of my emotions."

I blew out a few accounts until I decided not to be a gambler and become a serious trader. I've been trading full time since March 2011. Had been trading and working another job for about 2 years.

I trade mostly futures like SI, CL, TF, DX, 6E, and a few others. I also use vertical bull put spreads on a few stocks like GOOG, AAPL, and NFLX.

I look forward to learning from everyone here. I am always looking for more ways to improve on my trading.

I started investing and am trying to decrease my time horizon bit by bit. Right now i mostly do swing trading and some macro and event driven related trades. Usually i hold onto my positions between a few days to several weeks. I am also looking forward to learn more about automatic trading and shorter term strategies.

I've been trading full time for 30 months after deciding I could do better than the 50% loss my financial managers did with my retirement nest egg.

As I suspect for many new traders, trading is much ore difficult than i expected. I've been profitable for a little over a year, mostly swing trading stocks and etfs.

I'm new to futures, in fact, just made my first futures trade in June of this year.

Big Mike's looks like a great place to learn.

Thanks for the help.

Hello everyone...

I started learning how to trade about 7 years ago. I bought an education with an internet based company which cost me about $14k. I learned with them for about two years. I lost money and about killed my account. I've done a lot of paper trading and tried all sorts of trading types, long term, options, day trading, futures, etc.

On December 20 2010, I finally got it down and I have been profitable ever since. I'm making on average 4% on my account every month which includes a lot of me testing and learning still and making huge losses through mistakes. Today I trade futures only with YM (Dow futures) where my trades last anywhere from 1 day to a week or a bit more. I also day trade on SB (Sugar) and KC (Coffee) futures. I never carry overnight with those.

What was the turning point for me was back testing and believing in what I was about to do through back test results and trading in a very systematic way just like my strategy does if it were automated. I found that if there was any discretion left up to me I'd fail every time. It has to be yes or no without any gray area.

I look forward to learning more from people here on the forums. Thanks for letting me share.

-Alli

Nice to hear you are consistently profitable after 7 years Alli. I've been going on 3 years and still struggling. Is your system purely mechanical rules, and no discretionary elements? I also use TOS. I'm wondering if you use TOS to do your daytrading on futures? /KC and /SB look interesting to daytrade with their price action behavior. Thanks.
